We arrived an hour before they opened and waited. It was hot fresh and delicious. I was trying not to pay attention to all the dust while I was eating. .

THE place in DeRidder area for consistently friendly service and delicious fried chicken and sides…read more Always hot and crispy with just a hint of spicy heat, the fried chicken pieces are much larger than the Sailor's pieces down the street, so come hungry. We haven't made it past that to try the chicken wings, but I have no doubt they'll be a winner too. The sides are always piping hot (when appropriate) and fresh, especially the red beans & rice with generous slices of sausage, the golden-brown natural-cut fries, the crispy fried okra like Grandma used to make... man, even the coleslaw has a fresh twist! Their menu has seen some great Southern-style additions over time, like chicken cracklins and hush puppies. This kind of quality takes time, so don't get your drawers in a knot when it takes a little bit for your order to be ready. (I swear they drop fresh sides when you make your order!) We hit them up for good food more often than I like to admit, but they really shine on Sundays at lunch when they keep things moving and keep the quality steady despite the hungry turnout of customers. We've been customers for over two months and they've NEVER missed a beat. Coming as we did from the Baton Rouge metro area with all its chicken joints, we NEVER had this good an experience, so chalk one up for Big D over BR! From the cooks to the manager to the drivers-they and counter staff, things seem to run like a well-oiled machine, frankly because I think they really care about their product and the customers who choose to spend their hard-earned money here. We've been seeing the same familiar faces for nearly a year, which says to me that it must be a good place to work since they don't have a high turnover rate. One more thing before I let you go: , show your support by buying a baseball cap with logo, a classy look... especially the green one! Keep up the good work, Chicken Depot! It is not easy to do what y'all do, but Lord we're sure glad you do. That kitchen has a magic touch!

Ummm where to start??Should've known pulling up at 6pm on a Saturday eve and no cars in parking…read morelot. We should have walked out when saw glass door that was so dirty with finger prints and everything else u hardly could see inside. Saw a few takeout orders come in and out so we reluctantly then Ordered food at counter to then be told after sitting down they were out of what I ordered so I had to order something different. Sat down at table which was so sticky my forearms stuck to it, napkin holder on table was so dusty my finger left mark when drug it across it. Place looked like it had never been cleaned or updated in years. Lights above had bugs galore in lightcover, floors/baseboards dirty, fans above on their last leg/blades. Windows also needed cleaning. By then I still wanted to walk out but I needed to see what the food was like. Trying to give benefit of doubt. Service very slow, looked short staffed. Hoping they washed hands at some point no gloves used with server taking orders, collecting money and touching food/cooking in plain view. When food arrived it looked ok until I tasted the coleslaw it was very bad, looked discolored and tasted old needless to say didn't eat it after one bite, my husband spit his out, then came the fried fish, I wasn't impressed no flavor parts of fish was just batter no meat, also the batter didn't stay on onion rings so as soon as u picked them up batter would fall off onion, Hush puppies tasted old not fresh, definitely frozen great value brand or worse. Didn't finish our meal and that's not like my husband he always finishes. Everything tasted same probably fried all in same grease. Still can't believe we stayed and (ate what we could)of the food. I hope they improve if read this, we like to support local businesses that's why we decided to try COUNTRY BOYS but unfortunately we won't be back. I should've read reviews before I went , last review was awhile back not sure what happened ugh

Great catfish and onion rings. You order at the counter and they bring the food to youread more

Mama's Chicken -- Opelousas, LA (Where diets go to die and…read morenobody's sorry about it) We rolled into Opelousas four deep, hungry, and feeling righteous. The mission was simple: real Louisiana fried chicken. Not "inspired by," not "elevated," not served on a slate tile with micro-greens. Just fried chicken that makes you question your life choices. With a name like Mama's Chicken, we figured we were at least in the right parish. Then we walked in. Packed. Locals everywhere. No tourists asking what a roux is. That's when you know you've done something right. The table immediately locked in on fried chicken orders. Boom. Boom. Boom. Shrimp and fish po'boys tried to flirt from the menu, but we stayed faithful. This was a chicken church and we were ready to worship. Then... betrayal. A small sign. Barely noticeable. Almost whispered. Chicken & sausage gumbo today. I folded instantly. Zero resistance. Straight to jail for crimes against the fried chicken alliance. I ordered the gumbo and red beans and rice because I have impulse control issues and the Lord understands. The food landed like a heavyweight title fight. Fried chicken stacked high--golden, crackly, unapologetic. Light and dark meat with that perfect crust that snaps back at you. Mac and cheese doing grown-folk mac and cheese things. Fries seasoned like somebody actually cared. And then my bowl showed up. That gumbo was dark-dark. The kind of roux that lets you know it's been places. Thick, rich, unctuous, and absolutely not here to be polite. Chicken and sausage swimming like they belonged there--because they did. The red beans? Creamy, silky, plump, and riding that rice like they've been together since high school. Let me be clear: You don't know fried chicken gumbo. You think you do. But you don't--until Mama's humbles you. Mama's Chicken doesn't need hype. It doesn't need branding. It doesn't need your Yelp opinion. It just keeps feeding locals and ruining outsiders' expectations of what "good" used to mean. Come hungry. Leave happy. Nap immediately. And don't pretend you're ordering the salad.
