Still great and the prices keep going up. 60 dollars for 2 people to eat a combo meal with a drink is a lot. We love the food so I guess we just keep coming back! The fish and shrimp are great. The hush puppies are so good. They have crinkle fries which I love. The slaw is a little sweet for me. Service is always great. There really isn't anywhere else in this city that has better fried seafood. read more

Smackin Mack's - Southern Near Me - Alexandria, Louisiana

Smackin Mack's-If we lived here this place would be worth the 90 minute drive OFTEN to go to!!!! It's on the end of a "plaza", a little hole in the wall decorated with silly signs, limited seating, huge chalkboard menu. You order your food at the counter and they call your name when it's ready. We were greeted with a huge smile as soon as we walked in (Southern hospitality) You don't get the shit in Ohio most of the time! The food.....let's put it this way, when the 2 moms (we had the grandsons) say it's hard to get the boys to eat and all 3 boys got a cheeseburger and fries and all 3 ate every last bite but a few fries and one of them (7 yr old) says "I want to stop eating but I can't" and they gave it a million The food was fabulous!! I say this about some places but this place was top notch- out of this world-I don't even know how to describe it- I ordered hush puppies, she gave them to us and said "I'll give them to you because yall are Yankees" (She had asked about the boys and told her we were babysitting and from Ohio) The BEST freaking hush puppies I've ever had!!! I also had a fried green tomato BLT- who would have thought??? He had a Shrimp PoBoy and loved it! read more

Great food, great customer service. Staff really went out of their way to accommodate our request for coffee although it's not part of the menu. We will come to this place everytime we're in Alexandria. read more

Good food, good service. I've had better, i've had worse. It's above average. I think that whenever they had cooked the fish, they had cooked it in the grease that had something else and it made the flavor off. read more

Always good food and happy service in a small but clean restaurant. Mack's isn't a big fancy restaurant but a homestyle place to eat with friends and family or just alone. read more

Smackin Mack's is a MUST STOP anytime I am home! They definitely give me my fried food fix...lol. There is always a line in the drive through but honestly what do you expect?!? It's worth the wait! The staff are friendly and the service is good. I've eaten inside and ordered through the drive thru and they haven't missed yet! read more

Wonderful food and we go every Friday. This is something we love to experience and enjoy !

This is a local family owned seafood/cajun restaurant. This restaurant has a decent sized dining area and also offers a drive through pick up. The dinning area is very clean (did not see the peanut shells on the floor like I heard about) and has a television. It has some awesome decorations featuring funny and sarcastic signs. The restaurant has parking spots designated only for it in the small strip mall that it is located. The staff here is friendly. The menu is full of cajun favorites and fried foods. i went with the corn nuggets, oyster po boy, and onion rings. The onion rings were homemade. The flakey kind that are hard to come by. I loved them. They are a must if you eat here. The po' boy was pretty good too. You can choose the consistently of your oysters which I chose medium. I think they were a bit on the hard side though, but still a lot better than many other places. The corn nuggets were good too. You get decent sized servings and they offer specials and a few combos. This is definitely a place worth checking out to satisfy your cajun/seafood craving. I really enjoyed my meal here and sure that you will too. I can not wait to go back. read more

Fish was muddy and had a fishy aftertaste. Sometimes the fish is just fishy. Fries were cold and blah... Hush puppies not that great. Sometimes it's good, but not last couple times for sure. read more

tonight food was good. Catfish and shrimp. Filets were small but good. Service always good. Place was packed.

Great Catfish, Friendly Staff ! Clean ! I really enjoyed my dinner. I'm coming back the next time I'm in town

I use the drive-through for this visit. I also ordered the kids meal drink. The reason why I chose this location was because of the menus that were on several sites stated that the kids meal was $5.99. This included two pieces of fish, french fries and a small drink. The prices are not correct and have been increased which I understand with everything that's happening today. The new price for this kids meal is $9.29 plus tax. The customer service was really good at the window and it was fast. Does this match what was given in the kids meal? In my opinion kind of not it's kind of expensive for kids meal but the food was good. read more

Hands down the place seafood place here in Cenla area everything was cooked to perfection I can't make this up and my oysters was fried exactly how I ask read more

Well I gave this place only 3 stars for a couple reasons. Let's start with the good stuff. Some coworkers and I were driving around looking for food after a conference not having much luck. This place was tucked away behind some other buildings when I spotted it. We decided to give it a try. They advertise fried fish which I was not in the mood for. When I got in I was happy to see they had boiled shrimp. That's what I got. They let you choose regular or spicy. I got spicy and man they were delicious! They were plump and easy to peel. It comes with corn and a potato. Both were cooked perfectly. They also had peanuts on the table to eat while waiting. My coworkers got fried shrimp and fish and said it was great. The down side. The order line is confusing and hectic. The dining area is small and crowded. It was loud in there because it was small and crowded which was not good for the headache I had. Overall though, the quality of food would bring me back! read more

Not a good choice to eat they are over priced and food taste horrible like it came straight from a box or can

The food was like it was straight out of a box and tasted terrible it was very fishy tasting and hard

Definitely fast food! The food is also kind of pricy for the average (at best) food that they serve. The person that checked me out in the drive-thru was nice but that didn't help the flavor. read more

The food was really good. The customer service was very friendly and patient. The restaurant is nicely decorated. The mac and cheese bites were excellent and innovative. The poboys were delicious, and im not usually a big fan. I would definitely order the poboy again. read more

Small portions, kinda pricey. Not anything special. I wouldn't eat here again. Had to order at a counter and carry my food to my table. Not at all what I expected. To top it off the food was mediocre at best. read more

Here for the fried 5 piece fish dinner and wife got a weekly special of 1 catfish fillet and 3 shrimp dinner. Both came with coleslaw, fries and hush puppies. Excellent food. Quaint place with good folks. Great service. Recommend highly. read more

terrible food tastes horrible and fishy rude employees I could hear the man in back that was cooking yelling and cursing not a great choice

Winner winner catfish dinner! I had the small fried catfish, which came with 3 good sized strips of well fried catfish. The batter was a little heavier than an old school cornmeal batter- but super good with a slight crunch to it. The catfish plate is served with French fries, Cole slaw and hush puppies. I only ate the cole slaw because I'm ketogenic- but it was a good slaw with not too much mayo- was on the drier side of slaws if there is such a thing. They substituted green beans for the fries for me. They were perfectly seasoned and had bacon cooked down in them- recommend the green beans! The peanuts on the table were big ones and I could have eaten the whole basket! And this is a throw your shells on the floor place. The walls here are covered in little signs with pithy or silly statements- keeps you entertained while you wait for your order. Will return when I'm in town and have a craving for some fried catfish. read more

Fried seafood that is not greasy is sometimes hard to find but Smackin Mac's has exactly that-- very tasty with a crisp and not soggy texture. No accumulated grease at the bottom of the basket either. It was just right. The hush puppies and batter for seafood had a slight sweet flavor. It is a very casual atmosphere. The staff was exceptionally friendly. Restaurant was clean. Went at lunch when they were fairly busy but our order was delIvered to us at our table very quickly. Will definitely be back. read more

Hands down; you want GREAT seafood and get it to go? Then BEHOLD...SMACKIN' MACKS! If you are a die hard seafood fan (like myself) then you will love some of the delicious things on their menu. I personally prefer their Troutline Special. Why do you ask? Well it has 3 catfish fillets, pretty big sized shrimp, oysters, fries all supplemented with two hushpuppies, & Cole slaw! Everything here for like $18!!!! WELL WORTH EVERY PENNY. All the staff are AWESOME and friendly I really love the decorative signs and sayings on the wall too. Very crafty, relaxing. THANK YOU GUYS!!!!! read more

The food is not worth the wait. You're going to wait 30+ minutes no matter what. I've called ahead, ordered at a slow time, ordered and left. No matter what my order wasn't ready when they told me it would be. The service is pretty bad too. When I ask about my order (after 30 mins) I get first looks. The drive thru is a joke as well. read more

Disappointed with drive through. Ordered at 12:50 and somehow they lost my order. Everyone behind me got food. I finally called on phone and they got it done in 10 min. So, total of 35 from order to brought to vehicle. Catfish was good, but don't have that kind of time. read more

Over priced food horrible,, very small portion!!!!! Do t not waste your money Grease all the same taste

It may not be entirely fair for a vegetarian to review a catfish joint. I've never eaten the catfish (although I've heard from others that it's fantastic). All I care about is the pickles - the fried pickles. I don't often eat fried pickles - maybe once or twice a year. But I am a bit of a fried pickle connoisseur. There is a right way and a wrong way to fry pickles. If the batter isn't quite right, you can end up with pickle slices that are too thick and crispy or (worse) too thin and soggy. Smackin Mack's fried pickles are perfection! I highly recommend them. read more

I was visiting from out of town and only wanted to eat food that was unique to the town. I yelped this location from the hotel and gave it a try. The location was memorable, the signs on the walls were funny quotes, the staff friendly & the food awesome! I had a fried green tomato, bacon ( load with bacon), lettuce on a toast large hamburger bun with fries. Just because they specialize in catfish, I purchased a piece to go. I could have shared my food easily as the portion size was huge. The food was good! I will definitely return on my next visit to Louisiana! read more

Great Oysters. Needto update pricing online to the menu after covid. When you get up to the window to pay, its quite different. That was about a month ago. I was very dissapointed with what I had to pay and didnt enjoy. I moved back here not long ago. Smackin Macks was my go to for Fried Fish. It was so crispy and had a great cajun flavor. Not sure what happened. The last couple times I tried the fish wasnt crispy, just flismy with no salt really or flavor in my personal opinion. I just will request the old recipie and the old way of frying back, because it was really good. I am picky about my fish and Smackin Macks was doin it for me then. I know times have been hard and Im glad to see this business still here in Alexandria.. read more

Went here for lunch during my visit to Alexandria. Fun, casual atmosphere; friendly staff and owner; GREAT food; and the best sweet tea with shaved ice. I had the fried catfish with shrimp and fries. This small catfish (fast food) restaurant is located in the back of Chuckie Cheese. The menu includes fried fish, fries, hush puppies, fried shrimp, po-boys, coleslaw, fried frog legs, kid meals, etc. I will sum the food up in one word ... PERFECT!!! The fish taste more like homecooked fish from a family fish fry, rather than the crunch fish from Captain D's. However, the price is pretty high for fast food. The average catfish combo (5 catfish, fries, coleslaw, hush puppies, and a pickle) cost $9.58!!! But the food is worth it and you will definitely get full. The restaurant has both inside dining and a drive thru. The inside is always clean and the workers are always nice. This place has several small tables, but it's never a full crowd inside, so you can possibly bring in a big group if you wanted (just push the tables together). They also have family packs of seafood for $29.00 (includes 15 catfish and your other sides). You probably will need to eat the food before it gets cold...because the fries will become soggy and wet over time. read more

Absolutely love this place! I got the shrimp poboy and it did not disappoint with huge shrimp and fresh bread! Fried fish plate also comes with large filets and taste very fresh! I would definitely recommend this place for great seafood! Only con is the my fried mushroom appetizer was a little undercooked bc the inside was still cold. Just a small mistake, I could still eat the smaller mushrooms but the larger ones were definitely undercooked. read more

The food was horrible!!! I wasted my time and money on food that was fried too hard and cold. The hushpuppies look like they was eaten off of. I called and complain and was told the manager would be calling me which didn't happen. read more

Yumm. In town for work and this was suggested by yelp and people in the office. Very friendly staff upon entering and I explained I was a first timer. I settled on the 2 piece catfish lunch which included hush puppies, coleslaw and fries. I substituted green beans for fries. Since each order is made fresh the wait was not long. Each order came with tarter but the catfish was so good it wasn't needed. And oh my it was very good catfish. Lightly battered very hot (yes I took a bite before it cooled enough). The coleslaw was lightly dressed and crunchy (which I like) green beans had enough smoke and bacon pieces which compliment the catfish. Hot and good hush puppies which you have to eat while hot and crunchy. Looking for straight up good food this is the place. I'll do it again before I leave the for the airport. read more

The fish was takeout only but it was slimy undercooked!!!!! I know there is no way this is real catfish. I wont go back there NASTY
