Drove through on the way to a football game mid-October and wanted a Po Boy. Food was awesome! The people were really friendly. I have never had a better Po Boy. The shrimp was perfect, and the roast beef changed my life! Got some of the little pecan pies to share later with friends and they didn't last that long. Been going here since Lou and Laura owned it, food still the same.... Just small little differences here and there. The only thing that I used to love about the shrimp po boys was they come smashed and wrapped, last time the bread was different. I've been coming to Lou and Laura's for approximately 37years, it has changed ownership a couple times during that period of time but has kept employees that kept things the way they were in the past, when I lived in Alexandria I was able to come by more frequently but now I live out of town and come through once a month, it has always been the same and one of my favorite stops, that is until today Feb. 21,2023, I ordered the same thing I always have, Bbq poboy and curly fries, poboy was not pressed, meat seemed different, idk, curly fries like I got what was left in fryer, idk, I noticed some interior changes- updates, if it is under new owners, PLEASE keep food like it was, I love this place and look forward to coming each month, I will try again next month, was just disappointed today. Stopped in here on Labor Day on a whim I ordered a Cheeseburger it was Outstanding was not a processed Hamburger Patty it was fresh ground beef cooked perfectly it was juicy not dried out and over cooked; split curly q fries with a friend my friend we couldn't eat all of them she ordered a Shrimp Po-Boy shrimp were cooked perfectly not over cooked or under cooked!! Stumbled upon this local joint when we were extremely hungry. It was side by side with another poboy joint but the other place had not so great reviews and a guy outside said this was the better option. It was not so great although i will give it three stars for the hospitality and kindness they showed us. The guy outside the door said it was the best place in town but it was a little over cooked and I had to drench it in ketchup and the hot sauce with the trucking advertisement on the label. Okay I am an out of towner and needed a review stacked place to give a try. Well, I gave the "home of the ORIGINAL po-boy" a go. The food is okay... Had chicken tenders, fried chicken, and a shrimp poy-boy with curlie Q fries. The po-boy was teenie tiny. I mean it was smaller than a burger and coated in mayo. The fried chicken had a burnt grease taste and lastly the tenders where the worse. Although this place is owned by locals and has great tasting po-boys ... I would NOT waste MY MONEY here!!! In other words, if you want a toasted sandwich ... GO TO SUBWAY!!! The sandwiches at Lou & Laura's are MUCH more expensive than Subway sandwiches ... but also a lot SMALLER, and also NOT as good either!!! The curly fries they serve are WET and Soggy and Gross!! Best fries ever. The shrimp poboy was meh. The bread was phenom and was seasoned great but it was heavy on mayo with wilted crappy lettuce and light on the shrimps. Well at least the second one was. Great catfish po boys, broasted chicken and mini pecan pies. The po boys are smaller and less expensive than some at other places, which I actually like, since it means I can order two instead of one. The rolls are not dense, so the fish/bread ratio is about perfect in my book. As far as the chicken goes, the thigs are hot, fresh, crispy and totally juicy inside. I can't say was impressed with this place. I got the Shrimp-Boy and some fries. The Shrimp-Boy is unlike any shrimp po-boy I've had before, with relatively large shrimp pressed in a row. The were pretty shrimpy (fishy) I thought; maybe not super fresh? ...or maybe the fryer oil hadn't been changed in a while. I used to go here when I was a child so when I moved back to the area last year I had to go. I ordered the shrimp basket. The shrimp were overcooked so bad they were hard as a rock. The shrimp and fries stank of old oil. I know because I used to work in the restraint business and know what it smells and tastes like. I tried chewing one shrimp and spit it out. A few years ago, on my first visit to Alexandria, we ate here. It was the first time I've eaten broasted chicken which is good, but I get so tired of chicken. The po' boys and catfish are more my style, and I give them a thumbs up. I try to stop in each time I'm in town. Its a family friendly place with a welcoming staff.
