I'm in Opelousas a few times a year (from Texas) and always stop at Mama's Fried Chicken. The chicken is seasoned just right, crispy outside, tender inside. Recently, though, I've been getting the fish or shrimp po boys, which are an excellent buy (everything here is reasonable priced, so you can feed the family at Mama's affordably) and delicious--they are a bit smaller than what you'd get at most cajun restaurants, but they cost a bit less. We were passing through headed to Texas for the holidays. We saw this little gem and decided to stop and grab a bite. I'm glad we did. The staff was nice, prompt and very friendly. They were getting the orders in and out; so the wait was very short. The food smelled great. The place was well lit and very noticeable from the road. The restaurant was clean and neatly decorated. The restroom was clean as well. Baby let me tell you that chicken was hot, fresh and seasoned to perfection with their mama seasoning and it was good!!!!! The fries the kiddos loved it and my husband really enjoyed the okra. We will definitely be back on our way going back home. Now let's get into this home made biscuit.. Y'all I'm telling you it was so light, fluffy, sweet and melted in your mouth... for me and my son Wyatt it was the absolute best part.. Yet, on today I obviously stopped in on the wrong day or the wrong time, as the young man on the register was very rude, his demeanor, his unprofessionalism shined without saying a word. If you have an issue with certain guests, you obviously should not be a cashier serving the public!! Maybe it was my accent that rubbed him the wrong way, or my sunglasses! We were very excited for this chicken when visiting family in Opelousas. Unfortunately the only good thing the chicken was that it was fresh. Definitely a legit fried chicken shop. We were making a rather long drive from Fort Worth to New Orleans, so naturally searched for a few spots for lunch en route. After stopping for gas, the attendant confirmed that this restaurant was delicious, so we decided to pop in and have a piece or two. Since we weren't super hungry, we ordered spicy chicken with some rice, one order without any sides, and my mom ordered the sandwich. While the pieces themselves were delicious, the sandwich's chicken pieces were poorly added....especially since one had bones while the other did not. I'm assuming this was due to a simple mistake since the pieces did look alike. This place is HOPPING. Lots of people come here, so be prepared to wait for a bit. read more

The fried chicken and biscuits was a great order. The chicken was season perfect and the biscuits were amazing. The service was just simple fast food service. The place was old and looked to have been around for years and busy. Don't let the area and building stop you, the food is the perfect. The chicken is what southern chicken is suppose to taste like. I also tried the okra and gizzard, they were great but needed a little hot sauce. All and all it was a perfect choice for a fast food meal.
