Hiring Karyn is a Missed Opportunity to Find Real Help…read more My daughter had been thriving, following a meal plan as she transitioned home from residential eating disorder treatment. We hired Karyn to support her as she stepped down to a lower level of care. Karyn soon switched my daughter to intuitive eating, and when my daughter's weight slipped, Karyn recommended she drink supplemental shakes. To both my daughter and me, this felt like a step backward - she had been maintaining her weight with only food, zero shakes, throughout her treatment. That should have been a big enough red flag for me to find a different dietitian. When my daughter went back to her sport, her weight slipped again. I begged Karyn to teach her some practical skills, challenge her more, or perhaps reintroduce the meal plan. But Karyn's solution? An additional shake. Instead of working on maintaining weight with actual food, my daughter was drinking up to three shakes a day. By contrast, when I was plating her meals earlier in her journey, she was weight restored with no supplements. Although Karyn was booking 30-minute appointments with my daughter, my daughter was seldom in Karyn's office for more than 10 minutes. It's not because my daughter was making exceptional progress. More likely, my daughter was a tough customer with whom Karyn didn't want to expend much effort. The short appointments did not result in a discounted rate, either. Karyn charged her 30-minute rate for my daughter's 10-minute appointments. I was paying her for 30-minutes of support for my daughter, and every meeting was a missed opportunity for my daughter to get the help she needed. Karyn has no system for sending receipts or invoices. This makes it impossible for anyone to get the paperwork required for reimbursement through a medical savings plan or flexible spending plan. She told me 10 months ago she was working on an invoicing template. I check in with her often, and she says things like, "Tomorrow is invoice day!" or "My assistant has worked out a system that should meet all of your needs!" But I still haven't received any receipts. This feels shady, completely unprofessional, and so so frustrating. My advice to anyone needing nutritional support would be to keep shopping. Karyn is NOT IT!

She made several errors in communication which she did not follow through on explaining or taking responsibility for. She trained in Internal Family Systems, but unfortunately, her behavior did not follow the standards of the organization nor the spirit of the model. Safety and trust are number one when a practitioner uses this model. I was left with feeling neither.

I have had back problems for over 20 years. I checked out the Foundation Training books from the…read morelibrary and tried doing the exercises on my own, but something wasn't quite right. YouTube helped a little, but there is a lot going on in each exercise, and I wanted to make sure I was doing the exercises correctly. So, I went to the Foundation Training website and found Mona's (one of the Studio Melt owners) name - she is one of only two Foundation Training practitioners in the area. Two weeks after taking Foundation Training classes at Melt my back was better. Regular classes have helped it say healthy. There is nothing like it in town, and Mona explains every exercise in great detail, gives constant cues and will come around and correct your form in every class. You buy a class pass and attend as you please. There are other services and classes at Melt too (Yamuna ball rolling for example), but I only do the Foundation Training classes regularly. I tried Yamuna ball rolling once and also liked it. Melt and Mona have been a life saver.

This is a small, beautiful, classy little gym and fitness studio. I was in town visiting my college…read moredaughter and Mona, the owner and instructor of many classes, welcomed me warmly. I initially came in looking for Nia, which is a fantastic dance/fitness/non-impact aerobic technique. She is a great Nia teacher! Nia is an amazing and fun way to exercise (more at http://www.nianow.com) and this is the ONLY place in Madison where you can do it. I also stayed for a Body Chisel class which was awesome, unique and just the right amount of challenging. I got a GREAT workout and wish that Melt studio was in my own city. They offer great classes as well as personal training, which seemed very impressive, attentive and excellent. Five stars! I highly recommend!!!
