I did not even have time to sit down. I was called just as I completed checking in. After vitals, I was taken to an exam room. My COVID test was a 15 minute wait for results. Before the 15 minutes were up, a really nice physician came to examine me. She was professional & friendly. When she learned they had already tested me for COVID, she went to check on the results. For the first time, I was diagnosed with COVID. I had dodged it for over 5 years. She gave me a typed out prescription as some pharmacy computer systems were down at that time. She explained how to take the medication. I was back in my car in close to 3O minutes after I arrived. Things I Appreciated: Making an appointment online Very short wait to be seen Seen by a physician Quick & accurate diagnosis Open on a Saturday/holiday weekend. I would definitely go there again when my primary care office is closed. I went there a few years ago & had a very positive experience then too.

I read some of the reviews about wait times, but I can't remember ever waiting for more than 10 minutes in the waiting room. And I usually spend less time waiting in the exam room (on occasion my doctor is ~15 minutes behind schedule). I do try to get early morning appointments for these reasons. I appreciate the phlebotomists when I get blood work done-- they are always friendly and quick, and I get my results back within a couple of days. Like most doctor's offices, the doctors themselves know a wide range of things, but in my opinion they are more incentivized to prevent a lawsuit than to actually solve your issues. On multiple occasions I was suggested a short-term fix for my issues (like medications that didn't really solve my issue) rather than a more holistic or well-thought-out approach. That's why I use this office mostly for yearly physicals/bloodwork and referrals, instead of comprehensive preventative care. But I can't blame Duke Health for this, it's more of an institutional problem in the US.

My mom was discharged from the ICU yesterday and required home oxygen, which was set up by the hospital. The medical supply company sent a large, heavy plug in unit which doesn't reach the bathroom, making it necessary for her to unplug the unit, which turns off when unplugged, and drag it to the bathroom. Without the benefit of oxygen, that exertion causes her extreme shortness of breath and chest pain. Furthermore, without supplemental oxygen her oxygen saturation drops into the low 80s, which I attempted to explain to Dr. Komada. I called to request that he change the order to a portable unit, which entails filling out a simple form and faxing it to the medical supply company. Apparently Dr. Komada can't be bothered to help his patient despite being on call for the group. He danced around the issue and passed the buck back to the ICU doctor explaining that he didn't write the order so he it isn't his responsibility and he wasn't going to change it. Any physician too lazy or too self-important to do the bare minimum to help a well-established patient, is essentially worthless and I would warn you to consider this review when seeking care from Dr. Komada. My only option now to ask the ICU doctor working today- who has no knowledge of my mother as he has never met her- to help get the oxygen she needs. Furthermore, Duke Triangle Heart Associates supposedly cleared my mother for the thoracic surgery during which she suffered a cardiac emergency requiring emergent cardioversion (they had to shock her twice) on the operating room table. Knowing she is elderly, has obstructive sleep apnea, obesity, COPD and ischemic heart disease- all risk factors for atrial fibrillation- in the presence of worsening shortness of breath that cannot be explained by her pulmonologist, failed to conduct due diligence to assess her for atrial fibrillation prior to clearing her for cardiothoracic surgery, putting her in peril as she underwent anesthesia. Dr. Komada was impatient with me on the phone, cutting me off as I explained the need for a portable oxygen tank, essentially implying that it wasn't his problem and trying to pass the buck to 1. her family doctor (with whom I had already spoken), 2. the medical supply company (whom I had already spoken with to facilitate the process) and 3. the ICU. He even tried to suggest that the medical supply company wouldn't deliver on a Saturday which I had already confirmed would, in fact, make the delivery as soon as the order is changed, and could have it here within hours. My mom's oxygen levels drop to the low 80's each time she has to walk to the bathroom without her oxygen, placing her in grave cardiac peril, which he had no concern about despite her having severe ischemic heart disease. Frankly I'm disgusted by his laissez faire attitude, rudeness and complete lack of concern for his patients. Think twice before using Duke Triangle Heart Associates for your cardiology needs. He removed the failed total knee implant (Depuy Attune) and then performed the required medical procedure to install the new revision knee replacement. This review relates to the hospital facility. UNC Hillsborough is a new facility and should be a model for all future and existing hospitals. The rooms are large and modern. The accommodation's in the room allow for a family member to stay with the patient in comfort. The couch/love seat converts into a bed. The staff ensures that sheets and blankets as well as pillows are provided for the family member. The person or family member staying with the patient can order food from the menu as well and utilize their credit/debit card for their purchases. The food is made to order with a wide variety to choose from, as well as tasting excellent. The nursing staff, doctors, physical therapy, housekeeping and all other discipline's involved with your care have been hand picked (selected) due to their dedication and devotion to their chosen careers. Not that I enjoy being in a hospital but if the need arises and I have my choice UNC Hillsborough is where I want to be treated. Thanks to everyone involved withmy care at this facility.

Not able to find an urgent care that was open midday on a Saturday, in the town I live in, we drove to this office, after calling to see if I could be seen immediately. Since I was expected, I was seen almost immediately after I walked in. The assistant and the PA were very professional. After examination, they were confident that I did not have a stroke. They determined that I should go to the hospital in Hillsborough to more positively rule out a heart attack. (They did. WHEW!)

I could never say enough kind words about this man. This was in the late 1980's, and I realize things were different then, but he was a magical doctor. His experience was unmatched.

In my opinion, Dr Berry's license should have been censured in 1997. He missed a clear cut…read morediagnosis of metastatic cancer on my mother at that time. Due to his not practicing within the standard of care, her treatment was delayed for the 5 months when her cancer had recurred (metastasis). At that time, metastatic breast cancer was pretty much a death sentence, but his overlooking the clinical facts was basically like ignoring metastatic cancer for 5 months. She may have ended up passing away anyway if Dr Berry had done his job properly and followed standard of care. However, I am confident that had Dr Berry not missed the diagnosis, she would not have ended up in agonizing pain and other terrible things that she endured during the last terrible 3 months of her life. All of that was due to the cancer having spread aggressively in the 5 month period when she should have been treated for metastatic cancer and received no treatment during that time. My mother was in excruciating suffering of the type that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. No one who is fighting cancer should have to go through what my mother endured. A little background info to put the situation in context: My mother first had an aggressive form of breast cancer at the age of 38. Dr Barry was her oncologist at that time. 12 & 1/2 years later, in January of 1997, she presented to Dr Berry with neck and back (bone) pain. In her routine cancer follow up labs, her CA-128 level was tested (this test is not used as much anymore, but at the time, it was a somewhat useful marker of cancer recurrence or metastasis). This is a case straight out of a medical textbook, bone pain and a CA-128 level multiplying at the same time, in someone who had originally had cancer at a very young age, needs to be followed up on with further tests. Mom ended up receiving the correct diagnosis 5 months later, by her RHEUMATOLOGIST, not "Dr Berry" (in quotes because I feel that he should not have a medical license). When my mother was at Rex hospital in and out of a coma during the last week of her life (at age 51) after she went through 3 months of pure hell, I asked Dr Berry, the following. "Why, when she was having bone pain 5 months ago, and her CA-128 jumped from within normal range to thousands of times over normal range, did the possibility of metastasis never occur to you?". His response, made in a very cavalier manner while glancing over the top of her chart; "I guess I missed that one". I should also mention that the cancer had spread also to her liver and lungs during the 5 months when she did not receive treatment. It's painfully ironic that my mother had considered Dr Berry a friend, admired him, and trusted him explicitly. I am sharing this because this is most likely not the only situation that Dr Berry was negligent in 'managing'. I have zero confidence in his competence as a physician and oncologist and do not feel that he practices within the standard of care. The only reason that I did not go to the NC Medical Board after my mother's death was that I knew that she would not have wanted me to do this. I can't keep it to myself any longer- if you want to live or want your loved one to have a fighting chance, please find a more competent oncologist.
