I just discovered your "Yelp" business review website; how great to have someone who cares about the every day silent consumer, who has no voice or advocate to spread their concerns, bad customer service, and/or, horrendous and inhumane treatment. I appreciate that Yelp, listens to both positive and negative feedback from the public taxpaying citizens.
It was not possible for me to select a rating because your rating system only has stars. Even selecting the minimum of one star, would be too positive and untruthful, regarding the "Un Mundo Cafe" Owner's and one male employee's (possibly the owner's son) Racial/Gender/Age and Disability Disparate & Discriminatory Treatment towards me and my Legitimate, Legal, Lifetime State of Ohio Certified Service Dog. I found the limited reviews posted by various patrons, stating nothing but positive comments about this little Springfield city restaurant's food, physical appearance, pleasant atmosphere and friendly service. Wow! How frightening and upsetting it was, not to see one single comment that exposes and shares with the Yelp Readers, the true and honest reality about the Owner and one male Employee (possibly his son), as to, how they treat a specific class of the Springfield people, who attempt to patronize and spend money for equal services at the Un Mundo Cafe.
As an African/Native American Indian, I am appalled by the extreme insensitivity, intense racist/disability disparate/discriminatory treatment and abhorrent hatred and terrorist activity, specifically, directed/aimed and intended to target Black Men and Native American Men, who dares to enter the Un Mundo Cafe to purchase a beverage, sandwich and simply enjoy a pleasant meal in a quaint cafe, in the historic city building, Alex B. posted about, and, experience the excellent quality and friendly service David S. posted about on the Yelp Site. My experience, and it is highly likely, that other minorities than Black and Native American Indian Men have also experienced; has been 100% opposite of the positive reviews I have read on your site. It has been !00% unfriendly, full of hostility directed towards me and my service dog (Zacharhias), embarrassing, humiliating and dangerous (even life threatening)! The Owner and one male employee, both White men, have aggressively threatened, harassed, intimidated, embarrassed, humiliated, insulted and bullied me, three of the four times I entered the Un Mundo Cafe for a quiet, peaceful bite to eat with an African American female friend. Despite the fact, that I voluntarily informed the Owner that my dog was a Service Animal, in accordance with the ADA of 1990 Act, consistent with the State of Ohio Revised Codes and the Constitutional Laws protecting my Legal Rights as a Member of a Protected Class, i.e., (Minority and Disability), which affords me the legal right to Public Access into any businesses, government agencies, hospitals, restaurants, entertainment, hospitals, doctors offices, etc., providing I identify my dog as being a Service Dog; the Un Mundo Cafe's Owner and an Employee, at the instructions and orders of the Owner, continued to intimidate, threaten, bully, harass and humiliate me, while they, maliciously created a Hostile Dining Environment, making it impossible for me to enjoy a pleasant dining experience with my female guests and service dog, who was always under perfect and absolute control. Additionally, the Owner/Employee, both White men, called the Springfield City Police on October 30, 2018, after the Owner Denied Public Access to me, when I entered the Un Mundo Cafe, for which, I had been formally invited by Nancy Flynchbaugh, on behalf of the Springfield Ohio City Cultural Community Department where she worked, to attend and enjoy a Culturally Diverse Dining and Art Exhibit experience with the Springfield Community. The Owner's false police call and false statements to the Springfield Police Department placed me and my Service Dog in grave dangerous peril, where we both could have been tasered, maced or fatally shot, considering the present climate of hostile and adversarial interaction between Black Men and White Police Officers. Fortunately, it did not end up being another Black Man being killed by a White Officer. However, they still handled me roughly, put me in handcuffs that were so tight, I had to plead for mercy so the officer would loosen them, a bit! The Owner proceeded to have the Springfield City Police issue me a "No Trespass Order" which is a Permanent Lifetime Trespass Order that remains on my police record, which was initially, squeaky clean.
It is my appeal to every Springfield citizen, visitor, minorities, people with a disability/s who need and use service dogs, disabled people who do not need nor use service dog/s, friends, relatives, spouses, of disabled people/service dogs; consider seriously, before supporting a racist cafe and spending one single $1 dollar in the Un Mundo Cafe! read more
