I didn't choose the place! It's one of several options in the food court. The proprietors are smooth operators. The menu is small. So, placing an order is a pretty simple task. They ask "white rice or fried rice?". They don't mention there's a surcharge for the fried rice - see receipt photo. They'll ask if you want the Egg roll? Again, they don't say there's a charge. It seems it's more à la cart. You're eating out off a plastic clam shell, with flimsy disposable plastic utensils wrapped in cellophane, you have to find someplace to sit down and eat it. The bill came to $42.56!!! I've spent less at a real restaurant and gotten better quality food and service. The chicken teriyaki looks like they threw the meat through a moving fan. All different sized pieces, some of them not even cut separately from each other. The shrimp in the bento box was cooked to the point, where it looked like a curlicue. I don't expect a Kaiseki repast, but even the simplest Japanese meal is plated with finesse. In a nutshell, it's someplace NOT even worth writing home. spend your money someplace else. read more

Umi Teriyaki is one of those places that provide speedy hibachi meals that are usually found in large shopping malls. Out here in the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets, Umi Teriyaki is found inside the Market Place building. During lunch time on a busy day, you will have a rough time finding a seat, just a heads up. Back to Umi Teriyaki, I checked the reviews here on Yelp and there was nothing but hate. I've had my fair share of quick to-go hibachi/teriyaki in shopping malls and let me tell ya, this is the best one I've ever had so far. I had the Beef Teriyaki plate w/vegetables and fried rice. Meat was tasty, didn't need any extra sauce and there was plenty of it. Vegetables weren't mushy and overcooked. Fried rice was fried rice. Nothing was overpowering, everything balanced out nicely. Yes, I just said that in my review for a cheap food court Japanese restaurant. Oh, and despite being so damn busy the service was QUICK. We all know how it feels when the chefs start plopping containers and plates of food in front of everyone and all you're thinking is "ummm is this one mine?" Or "Should I grab it now?" Well for me, it was easy. My food was placed in front of me and I was told when it was done. Easy! No stress, no long wait, nothing! They did have sushi and bubble tea pre-made and that was where I'm guessing they screw up. I've heard of the tea being gross and the sushi being old but I can't say anything because I haven't had it yet so 4-Stars! Not bad! Oh and my meal was about $10 w/o a drink. Their line was the shortest and now I see why. I ordered 2 bento boxes one salmon & one chicken and a taro bubble tea. The bubble teas are not made to order, they're grab & go. The sauce on the California roll was overpowering and didn't taste good. I didn't even bother with the veggie tempura. Saving the best for last.. the bento boxes. Portion size was ridiculous. I would rather they have focused on delivering quality food in a smaller size. We got a chicken udon and a chicken teriyaki. The chicken was not hot, horrible texture, no flavor. The "vegetables" in the teriyaki turned out to be nearly exclusively onion and bean sprouts, as opposed to the pictured broccoli and carrots. There was one, lonely piece of broccoli, buried beneath a mountain of greasy onion. My wife claims this piece tasted relatively good, though I remain unsure. The ordering and pickup experience was terrible. They need a number system to keep people from touching food which isn't theirs. All-in, it was a step or two below typical mall Chinese food, delivered at twice the price. For $22, I would at least expect decent quality chicken without gross connective tissue. We always come at Woodbury Common and order food at Umi Teriyaki at the market place. January 17th, I had the worst experience at this food place. Not because of the food, but because of a very rude server named ANTONIO. We ordered Udon and rolls, halfway with my Udon soup. I dropped my spoon so I had to ask for one. There's no customer in-front so I said "excuse me". He yelled: "What do you need!" I was stunned with the reaction but I still asked politely "I dropped my spoon. May I have a spoon please. " he handed me one in a rough manner. Then as I turned my back, he yelled: " Take care of that!" That's when I know he is being rude and disrespectful to customers over a spoon. I asked: "seriously? You are asking me to take care of the spoon?" He replied: Yes! Because we only give customer one spoon." I told the cashier about the inappropriate remarks and she apologized politely but he continued on. She asked him to stop but he goes on. When I ask for the manager, he said : "I don't care who you call! You can call anybody. I don't care! I was so disgusted and I reported him to the manager but he continued to instigate coming close to me many times even when asked to stay away. If there is a zero rating ,they would get it because of ANTONIO's rudeness. We ended up wasting the meal as he ruined our night and meal.
