I was driving back from upstate NY and was surprised to find this sushi/hibachi restaurant in the middle of nowhere. It's located in a generic looking strip mall just off the highway. What an excellent experience! Ordered for my family last night for my sons birthday. He says the mushroom soup is his favorite out of all the hibachi places w go. I have to agree there with the vegan rolls too, they are my favorite of any other place. Their online ordering system is also fabulous, the options include - "no egg", "no onion", "gluten free". This place was jamming for a Monday during the holiday season! Lots of people were there for sushi and sashimi and some people were there for hibachi. Either way, you could hear the hibachi! The restaurant is nicely split up for the hibachi diners and the non-hibachi diners. However, we were seated close enough that we could see the 5 foot orange flames on the hibachi grill - it was cool from afar, too. The chef working the hibachi station was quite entertaining, but I wonder if everyone else was as entertained. The menu is extensive. You can have any type of sushi imaginable, including rolls, hand rolls, sashimi, special rolls, vegetable rolls, and of course, there was soup, salad, hibachi, teriyaki, tempura, katsu, ice cream and sides of noodles, rice and fried rice. Our table also ordered a Love Boat with a beautiful display of sushi, sashimi and rolls. I like that they have brown rice as an option for your entrees (not in the sushi). For the area, I'll give them 4 stars. For the quality, I'll give them 4 stars. For the portions, also, they earn 4 stars. The prices are fair, the service is as expected, and the ambiance fits well into the casual sit-down dining experience. However, if you have a special request, it is not likely they will really know what to do for you. So, with that said, if you cannot have gluten, take your chances and be smart about it! I requested an avocado salad as gluten free, but, the sheer confusion on the wait person's face led me to just ask for no dressing - there was still ample avocado, and it was delicious and fresh. The seaweed salad is from a package, so no alterations there. The sushi, well, you can expect that rice is gluten free and that rolls will not have gluten if they are just rice, seaweed and the item of your choosing. Sauces? Don't count on it. Miso soup - maybe? I wouldn't hold my breath. The food was a hit for everyone though- so a great choice for a party with many different palates and dietary needs! read more

We have eaten here many times before, and used to like it, but they would not accommodate a special needs patron, and so we had no choice but to leave. It was 6:30 on a Wednesday, and except for one table, the entire hibachi room was empty. The maitre d' sat us at a huge empty table, in seats that were facing the rear wall. We asked if we could sit on the opposite side for one of our group who simply felt more comfortable physically facing in, and they refused to let us. There was literally no one else at the table...why not accommodate the request? We were dumbfounded - what is the difference to them? Maybe if it was crowded, it would be understandable, but again - totally empty. Anyway, they lost our business forever - we will look for another place to enjoy and spend our hard earned dollars. A lot of folks were at hibachi tables with not much going on and seemed that they were waiting to be served or get their bill. Either way it just looked like they needed 1-2 more servers to keep things rolling. Our hibachi table was ok .... The best was that our chef tried his best to be exciting and we cheered him on for his efforts. But really it was not the best hibachi experience. The food was good. This is a yummy place to get a quick bite of Japanese food or a place to have a gathering with friends. We arrived around 6:45 pm wanting to try the hibachi grill here because my sister had really liked it the last time she came. However, some groups were having birthday/graduation celebrations so seating at the grills was completely full. No big deal for us though! There were so many options on the menu at reasonable prices that I didn't know what to choose. In the end we decided to get an agedashi tofu, chicken teriyaki, dark dragon roll, crab roll, and snow mountain roll. Agedashi tofu (4/5): This was presented a bit differently from agedashi tofu I've had in the past where the tofu is sitting directly in the soup. I think that gives the tofu much stronger flavor. The dish here was still yummy though. The outside of the tofu was perfectly crispy while the inside was super soft. The bonito flakes added some nice umami flavor. Overall the flavor was still a bit light after dipping the tofu in the soup. Snow Mountain Roll (4/5): This is a coconut shrimp roll topped with imitation crab. I love anything with imitation crab and tempura so I had to get this one. Overall, it was tasty and presented pretty nicely. The shrimp inside was quite crispy. However, I wish there was more coconut flavor since I mostly tasted the crab salad over anything else. Dark Dragon Roll (4/5): This roll was packed with a whole bunch of stuff. There was caviar on top of a slice of eel and the inside consisted of shrimp tempura and avocado. Lots of seafood flavor which I really liked, but some parts were a bit too salty for my liking. I think it might have been the sauce that came with the eel slice on top. Crab roll (4/5): This was a pretty regular sushi roll and there wasn't anything too special about it. It was tasty and I liked it but the presentation showed a lot of the messy ends. I feel like flipping those ends upside down might have looked a lot nicer. The sauce was a good addition and we ended up dipping some other rolls in the sauce as well. Chicken teriyaki (5/5): I think this is usually designed to be a meal for just one person but we decided to share it and it worked out perfectly! The chicken teriyaki comes with soup and salad. Not sure what they put in the salad dressing but it sure is delicious. The teriyaki chicken was cooked to be quite tender and the sauce a good mix of sweet and salty. We coated the other veggies in it as well and the hot plate seared the onions until they were a bit more soft. The sauce coated chicken and veggies mixed into rice gave my rice some teriyaki flavor. Yum! The bill came down to about $62 (pre tax and tip) for a group of four so the price was very reasonable and we were perfectly full at the end. read more

A great sushi place to check out in the area. We were around to go shopping at the Woodbury commons and is a 5 min drive from there to find this place. The restaurant looked clean and ambient on entry and got us seated quickly. Remember to check in on Yelp, to enjoy a free Shumai (in the picture). We ordered one speciality roll and two regular rolls for a party of two, and the portions were quite fulfilling. The sushi was freshly done and presented well. The deep fried dynamite roll was a little soggy but I chose to ignore it given all the other nice things about this place. Was in search of a bee sushi spot and stumbled upon this place. It is in an unsuspecting strip mall, which I feel like you wouldn't normally pass unless you planned to go there. It's no frills from the outside but the sushi is great quality! We ordered 3 speciality rolls, miso soup and hot tea. I wish the miso soup was a bit hotter, but it still tasted good. The rolls came out relatively quickly. The presentation was great and the rolls were all super fresh. The summer kiss was one of my favorites, although they were all delicious. Something about the lightly cooked salmon on top paired with the sweet sauce. It's not overly sweet though so it's a great balance. Half the restaurant is hibachi tables and the other is sit down seating with a sushi bar. I can't speak to the hibachi but it looks like it's back to up and running post covid lockdown. Came with soup and salad for each. I didn't get to each lunch that day and I was very hungry after not eating for over 10 hours! When you pull into the plaza the view of the restaurant from the outside looks very basic and outdated. Once you walk inside you forget what you saw on the outside. I loved the lighting because it makes for great pics and the inside was very clean. I ordered spicy kani, gyoza, and edamame for as appetizers and two rolls of which I forgot the names. The appetizers were great and my wife loved the spicy kani salad. The rolls were top notch as well. Service was quick and they were very polite. I will like to say that we have not been to the restaurant directly we ordered the food through Uber eats. This was the first time we've ever ordered from here. My husband ordered the sashimi and it was beautifully presented, fresh and delicious. I ordered the chicken teriyaki meal and it was one of THE best i have ever had! The vegetables were so fresh, the chicken was delicious and so was the rice. I was afraid to order for delivery but honestly their packaging was a high quality bento-like box. Perfect food for a rainy/snowy Sunday. Excited to visit the restaurant to see how the service and ambiance is there. My sister has been raving about this place so when I was home over the last month, we decided to go together. We started with the Yelp check in free fried shumai. Tasty, fun way to start the meal! We ordered a few rolls and a hibachi dinner to share for our meal. The shrimp and scallop hibachi dinner was okay. Loved how it came with both noodles and fried rice. The scallops were a bit gritty so they weren't my favorite. I would say if your going for hibachi, sit at the hibachi table, half the meal is about the show. For sushi we got the 007 roll and the Valentine's Day roll. I loved the Valentine's Day roll. Everything was balanced, tasted amazing! I would come back for this roll alone. The 007 had so much potential but the spicy tuna and crabmeat inside was a bit dry so I had to add so much extra eel sauce and spicy mayo to really enjoy it. The inside of this place is very beautiful and definitely night and day to the rest of the plaza here for sure, plus very clean. Waitress I had was very nice and polite and did not rush me. so, with that now on to the food, Duck dumplings were good, plenty of meat and two fluffy pillowy bao buns with shredded with green onion and cucumber. The hoisin sauce dip was sweet and savory, wish the cup was better so it was easier to dip the bun in. Now the yakitori skewers, chicken was cooked perfectly and had a very crispy skin, but I do wish the chicken was bit juicy, but at least there was plenty of sauce placed on it. The caramelized onions and green onions were great, almost wish they put more on the stick. Okaeri roll was pretty good, never had a sushi roll with crayfish meat, that was new for me. The roll itself would been better unfried honestly, but I have say it was like an upgraded version of Philly roll. The menu itself was very good and I will say everything i had was very fresh, way more than I have similar places so kudos to them, and all my dishes were beautifully presented, you can tell they put best foot forward and i came here when it was dead as well. read more

The food is simple here, rice and noodle fried with butter, garlic, and soy sauce, it's hard to go wrong. Not fancy, not tasty, but good enough for a hungry tired evening. I went to Okaeri last week for the first time, with family. Two out of three of us became violently ill with food poisoning. The two of us that got the food poisoning had the hibachi, one order was chicken & beef and the other was shrimp. I obviously would never go back here again. I came here without reservation around 5:30pm for a table for 6-7 people we were seated immediately. The place was not packed but it started getting crowded around 6 especially for the hibachi. The menus had a funny smell didn't like that however the plates and table was cleaned and smelled fine. We started with appetizers that was yummy we got the beef negimaki and duplings all was good. For entree I got the beef teriyaki and wowww I ate every bit the beef was well cooked and had so much flavor I would definitely order that again. Soo we took a mid week day shopping trip to Woodbury Commons in NY. A hike from Central Jersey. Stayed till mall shops were closing and was starving. All of the restaurants on site were closed- ugh. Did a quick Yelp and 7mins away was this surprising gem. First off it's in a strip mall so we were expecting such- but don't be fooled at all, this place compared itself to any fantastic sushi restaurant you will find in the NY City!!! The cocktails were creative and delicious and average price $10. The appetizers were yummy and the jalapeño yellowtail portions were huge compared to the usual. We ordered about 5 rolls and ate them all. If you use the yelp check in you get a free appetizer. We were sooo pleased with this restaurant- would have stayed longer and had another drink, if not for the drive back and home. Going to def make it there when I'm the area.
