Shrimp tempura roll & California roll
Caroline J.

First time here... It's small inside with only about 9 seats around the sushi bar. I do believe that there is outside seating but not positive. I ordered my rolls to go, and the woman who took my order was very sweet and my food was ready to go when she had told me it would be. I ordered the shrimp tempura roll and a California roll. Both were fresh and delicious. Will be back to try out more of their sushi!

Wow! What a great find. Owner is so nice and sushi perfect. Wonderful spot for a meal.

I had an amazing time at Umi Sushi! From the moment I walked in the staff was super friendly and attentive. The food was fresh and made fast. There's a very friendly and fun environment inside! Will definitely be back soon.

Meet the Chef who made a special roll for my daughter on her birthday. You can't beat the personalized service!

The service here was personalized and welcoming. The Chef made a special selection and rolls based on what we liked. I can't say enough great things. The atmosphere is laid back and casual. The Chef was friendly and amazing. If you have time to chat and eat, this is the place to do it.

The food was excellent, and service was wonderful. It's a quaint intimate space, where the chef makes the rolls right in front of you. He's very friendly and super talented. Highly recommend!

This is a hidden gem on the boardwalk of historic Yorktown Beach! Tiny little place with odd hours, but super quaint and the quality of the sushi is amazing! Great selection of sake as well. Husband and wife team own and operate it. It's a must try if you're in the area. Not ideal for large groups unless you want to sit outside on the back patio (there is only sushi bar seating inside, enough chairs for about 8 people total).

Chef's choice! Delicious

My son and I love visiting Yorktown and a big reason that we do is because we love this sushi spot! This family run business always provides us a warm experience and the food is delicious and fresh! We will be back! Thank you

I really hate to be that person, but, Umi Sushi, what happened!? Don't get me wrong, this is one of the most aesthetically pleasing sushi joints I've been to in H.R, located within a cute colonial style house boasting the authenticity of a sushi spot straight out of Japan itself, Umi Sushi ticks all the right boxes. The combo deal sounded great, and I was ready to dig in to my meal - we were ushered to sit outside, thankfully it was a nice day, but when I saw a few measly pieces on a styrofoam plate coming towards me, I have to admit that I was rather gutted. I had high hopes, but they were slashed by what felt like a samurai sword (that was probably also made of styrofoam...) laced with disappointment and regret for driving all the way here. The mochi came still in their wrappers... I could have driven to Tokyo Market a couple of miles away and bought a 20pack for the same price of the three handed to us, again, on a styrofoam plate.. The quality of the fish was second to none, but it lacked presentation, which makes you really notice you probably spent more money than you should have. The lady who served us was ok, but it felt like she didn't want us in the restaurant and wanted us outside - we were the only two customers... I left with disappointment and regret for driving so far and leaving hungry - I could pay the same amount at my local sushi joint in N.News and walk away stuffed. I won't be going out of my way to come again, sorry Umi.

Assortment of saki and wine

Stopped in here for some quick sushi, and it was awesome! The owners were super friendly and accommodating. The small establishment only has about 6-8 seats for guests, so not very good for groups. We had three people in our group, and there was no one there, so we lucked out. The sake selection is massive! A whole wall of different sakis and wines to purchase. I didn't get a chance to really look at the selection, but it's worth a look if you like that sort of thing. The sushi selection is pretty good. I got my usual unagi roll and a tuna roll with avocado, made spicy, since they didn't have a legit spicy tuna roll. All my rolls were delicious! Paired with a hot green tea, I was one happy camper. If you're strolling along the beach, and are in the mood for some sushi, definitely check this place out. I think they also do carry-out sushi too.

Teriyaki chicken with white rice - it was just ok
Maria G.

Well it's not like there's a lot of choices at the food court so, my family and I settled for Umi Sushi. The menu board is simple: teriyaki with rice or noodles, some sushi dishes, bubble tea, and etc. I settled for the chicken teriyaki with white rice for $8.99. As I was putting my receipt and bank card back in my wallet, the gentleman was handing my order. Wait a min... I didn't see him cook my chicken. I didn't even smell the smoking flames from the grill?! I looked over on the grill and apparently he had chicken already cooked to the side. So now I'm thinking... it's not cooked to order and how long has the chicken been sitting on the grill? As I saw him finishing up 2 other orders behind me, the chicken was low on the grill so he cooked some more but there were no other customers in line. Soooo...the next customers will be in the same boat as me, NO cooked to order chicken. The teriyaki sauce was hot as it was staying warm in a warmer but it was a little too sweet and generic tasting. For what it's worth, it's in a food court :-(

Good food and service. Got the spicy tuna roll and assorted sashimi. Yum! Ate outside in a green garden. Nice.

For starters we like the sushi appetizer (fresh and yummy), spring rolls, crab rangoons, and gyoza! All hit the spot - flavorful and perfect sized. With the size of the rolls, we normally just get two apps to share and one roll each. As someone who doesn't like a ton of raw fish, I get the Saisaki Special Roll. It has lobster salad, shrimp tempura and avacado. I love the eel and spicy mayo dipping sauce that gives it a great sweet and spicy combo. He gets the Sakura roll and loves it - fresh and unique. For drinks, I love the white sangria - sweet and refreshing.

The hot and sour soup was not too bad. I felt like it could've used a little more seasoning, but they give you a generous, proportion . Had the spicy kani salad and I thought that was pretty good. It tasted very fresh and had a good crunch. The pepper steak was seasoned well very nice portion looked really good. Fried rice tasted really good. No complaints on the fried rice. The General tso chicken was excellent very crunchy and a very nice portion. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Thai Tara is our hands-down favorite restaurant. Not only in Williamsburg, where we recently moved,…read morebut nationwide. And that isn't mere hyperbole. Before we moved to Williamsburg, we visited the area for vacations, and Thai Tara is alway the first place we go for dinner and the final meal before leaving. Whether you crave the freshest Sushi/Sashimi or you prefer authentic Thai street food, you will find it here. We have traveled to Bangkok many times, and from first hand experience can say without exaggerating that the Chicken Sate or Fresh Rolls are as authentic as you might find at the street markets in BKK. The Tom Kha and Tom Yum soups are a treat. The extensive selection of warm Thai dishes like Pad Thai and Penang Curry are outstanding. We often include a hand roll or a selection of Sashimi from the Sushi bar in our orders. Never has the sushi bar prepared anything less than perfect. And if you want a real treat, finish your meal with a Mango Sticky Rice. Although small in size, it's surely is a dessert of the gods. An extensive bar is also on hand at Thai Tara for your favorite hand mixed cocktail, umbrella drink or beer, including Thailand's own Singha, a refreshing lager. Plan to arrive early because this cozy (but not small) place gets very busy, especially on weekends. Parking can be tight. But even in the busiest evenings, service is always prompt, attentive, and with a Thai smile.

I ordered the Kake Udon for me and two orders of steamed gyoza for my kiddo. I gotta say, I was surprised when the order arrived. The udon noodles were paper thin compared to what I'm used to. The fried tofu was so hard it was basically inedible, and the broth - well, it had little to no flavor. To top it off, my kiddo took a bite of one dumpling and then spit it out. This child DESTROYS dumplings, so I asked him what happened -- he said "who puts corn and carrots in a gyoza dumpling?!?" and I can't say I disagree with him. Pork and cabbage filling - duh! Overall, totally not our jam and we probably won't revisit it. I guess the reviews are based more on folks who haven't experienced true Japanese cooking? I don't know, but I'm pretty sure my Japanese host mother would have given it no stars.

Today I got the seafood ramen with mussels, clams and a couple of pieces of imitation crab sticks. The broth was warm and tasty, and spicy after adding generous spoonfuls of the chili oil, a must-add for cold, wet weather. I also snuck some bites of my husband's katsu-don and was a little jealous of how good it was. Next time I will get the katsu ramen bowl and have the best of both worlds. We also got sashimi and crab Rangoon for appetizers which everyone enjoyed. And my lychee ice tea was sooo good. It's a bit sweet but the lychee flavor was amazing and I can't wait to try the other flavors. Overall a great experience, especially after a day of traveling in chilly weather. Thank you for the great service and friendly welcome, can't wait to return!
