A great modern fast food place. Love the Japanese fusion burgers! All the items I tried were amazing: The menchi burger was amazing with a delicious pork Katsu patty, sliced cabbage and mayo. The pork Katsu was also juicy and tender. The ebi burger was also really juicy and tasty. I like the sliced cabbage and mayo options with it. The karaage burger has the same pieces as the chicken karaage ala carte. It has a nice crispy batter, tender meat and juicy flavor. The fries are also very good. It doesn't have a crunchy or crispy batter but has a nice sour cream and onion flavor. But definitely skip the soft serve. The flavor was good - malty. But it was very melted and soft. They had to make it 3 times when we got it. There was also some purple powder in the soft serve, maybe sweet potato? You can self serve some water and ketchup. The second store of Ume Burger has opened at the harbourfront dining precinct Barangaroo. Ume is a casual dining venue with alfresco (covered over) dining space. The chef Kerby Craig recently converting efforts from fine dining to burgers much like Neil Perry and the Burger Project. Serving up top notch burgers, Japanese inspired bites and beverages. We began with some sodas, made in store - delicious flavours. We tried the passionfruit ginger soda, the strawberry vanilla soda and my favourite the yuzu brown sugar. You can also get it with a shot of whiskey or shochu if you so desire. They had a good selection of whiskey's and the guys in the party tried the Hibiki harmony. They also sell a range of beers and ciders, umeshu and yuzushu, sake and shoshu. We ordered some side dishes including fries and onion rings with umami salt, a special Japanese salt that is so morish. We also got 'Renkon' or Lotus chips, house made kimchi, Koji fried chicken and a couple some oishi(delicious) dipping sauces: nori mayo, spicy cod mayo a Japanese version of taramasalata to accompany the meal. The Japanese influenced burgers are different than your standard burger, and we thoroughly enjoyed them. We decided to order four different types, and all four member of the party favouring different burgers. All burgers had really fresh, custom made "Hokkaido mild buns" (brioche style) buns with different fillings. Their signature burger of a beef pattie, wagyu mince with sauce drizzling off the side, filled with tomato, onion, mayo and American cheese, this Burger was incredible! No wonder it is their signature burger and one of the most popular sellers. The Ebi (prawn) was another great burger. This burger was filled with handmade prawn katsu (like a prawn filled pattie) with Japanese tartare sauce and shredded cabbage. The classic cheeseburger, my personal favourite had a delicious "Ume's special sauce" and melting cheese, just delicious, as well as rice wine vinegar pickles, lettuce and onion. We also downed the special, a juicy Japanese fried chicken burger with cheese, lettuce and onion. One of the token gimmicks (which I loved) was the Hokkaido self-serve soft serve. A strawberry shoshu flavor, certainly very tasty. Although I pretty much let the machine out of control, and ended up eating mine with a spoon, however they come in a waffle cone. My favourite burger place in Sydney! I have been to both the Surry Hills location and Barangaroo multiple times and have never been disappointed. Beautiful quality ingredients, fused with a clever balance of flavours, each burger is uniquely special. Japanese inspired, Ume sets apart from the other burger joints in town. The Ume burger is a must have! And the potato chips and renkon chips are the perfect pairing for any burger, which are also great to share. Service is pretty quick and you don't have to wait long for your meal. Highly recommended! I will definitely be back! read more

The UME BURGER uses fatty Wagyu beef for its mince patty that instantly Japani-fies the classic burger combo of truss tomato, onion and american cheese that has been replicated all over, so it was definitely a nice warmer to my main course. Great food! I went for the UME burger but got sidetracked when I got there. They had a limited time EBI burger. Crumbled shrimp burger, delicious!!! I added the fries and rings combo. The onion rings and fries were both good. They had a light house seasoning on them. I definitely recommend them. I will be back to try their UME burger. read more

I had the veggie burger which was great--100%, everything on point for it to be perfect. Great bun, great toppings, great sauce, great 'burger'. There are wayy to many fries though! Are they to share? That needs to be said because I would not have gotten them if I knew there was so many! Also, quite unflavorful. Surprised we managed to get a seat on a Friday night, but probably because we showed up relatively early. The service here is fast and the I really like the atmosphere here. The burgers are good, but the fries are awesome - I can never stop eating them. This place was decent. The fries were very good but the burger itself..I don't know if it's I had the wrong burger but it wasn't too crispy as I had hoped and I told them not to put mustard but they did anyway so I didn't like the taste. Visiting Sydney from the US and when we walked by the burgers looked so good we had to order one. Didn't disappoint, amazingly delicious cheeseburger and fries are fantastic too! So good we took one to go for later! Highly recommend. read more
