I live with some pretty angry Hawaiians and I get that it's hard to be happy all the time living here and working in an area filled with tourists. The few times I've been here, service has been a mixed bag. But they all get the job done. They'll usually try to give you a new item (instead of the display items) if they have any in stock. I think they are card only. Ofc the most difficult thing about kealopiko is how exclusive it is. They make their clothes in small batches and hand print the material. It's good quality items and honestly less expensive than some other locally owned stores, so I like shopping here. It's just sometimes hard to get your hands on things. I'll definitely be back. I try to follow them on Instagram so that I can head to the store when they do a drop. It was definitely easier when I lived in town.

The reason that I went into her boutique was because I needed some alterations done on two pieces that I wanted to wear for a special occasion during an upcoming Thanksgiving trip to the Mainland. Anne Namba's designs draws me in because I feel that I can "relate" to the styles. The way the garments are cut gives me a feeling of simple contemporary elegance. I'm not tall nor thin nor young in age but her styles can be tailored to fit (ALL women) so I've not felt intimidated into thinking that I should look like a model. Even the vintage fabrics are meticulously put together that you can accessorize to dress up or down. There's a line of EuroAsian-inspired printed silk if you're not into vintage kimono or obi based clothes. The clothing here can be custom designed or fitted for men and women. Before stepping foot into the boutique, I called and spoke to one of Anne's staff, Mary. I wanted to make sure that I could just drop by to get my silk duster fit and to replace the elastic in a pair of silk pants. Her voice effused friendliness and warmth over the phone. I brought in my pieces, she fit (measured) my garment, gave me an estimate for alteration and said their seamstresses would do their best to get the items done within 7 days. I asked her for home silk care and cleaning tips as I had a garment that had been badly "age or rust" spotted. While waiting for the alterations, I tried Mary's recommendations. Within minutes, my damaged garment was sparkling clean! Oh boy, I just had to tell Mary about the success of her tip! To my surprise, my alterations were completed within 4 days (including a weekend) so at first chance, I rushed back to the boutique. We chatted for a few minutes and I got a couple of more tips from her. My eyes danced with glee just looking around at all the new styles, fabrics and colors. I even zeroed in on an outfit that I'd love to have but, my retired person conscious got the better of me. I would encourage men and women of all ages to visit this boutique...you will be amazed by the quality, beauty and wearability of the garments. I thought that this was a hula supply store? Since I'm here, I should just take a look, right? Browsing the aisles that were filled with all kinds of merchandise like pareo, hair accessories, musical instruments, tube tops, lanyards, check book covers, hula skirts, etc., I found a rack of long mu'umu'u! I was excited to find a pretty lei print on lavender material with purple trim! Perfect! The nice man apologized that there was no dressing room. I estimated the length and width to figure what size to get. He said there's no refund and maybe I can come back for alteration? I think I'll fit! I also saw some coin purses that will make great party favors! I got a bunch and he gave me a discount for bulk purchase! Thank you! Wow... I have been buying and wearing Crazy Shirts for 35 years, since first buying one in Vail, CO. In…read morethat time, we've been to stores in CA, NV & almost every Hawaiian island. This Crazy Shirts store in Ala Moana Center used to be on the 2nd floor but moved up to the 3rd. They have really cool designs and artwork in funky dyed colors. Some dyes used are volcanic rock, blue hawaiian, beer, coffee, grape & pineapple to name a few. The advantage of that is if you get any of those foods on you, the stain won't show! Most of their shirts are heavy weight cotton and will last a lifetime, so the premium price (avg $44-$50) is worth it.

We didn't really care for the designs and colors of our t-shirts and decided to see if we could exchange them. There are many locations of Crazy Shirts on the Island of O'ahu. There are several stores in Waikiki... And there are shops at Pearlridge Mall, Ko'Olina, and Kailua, as well as on the neighbor islands of Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island of Hawai'i. We chose the most convenient location for us - at Ala Moana Center, on the third level, by Neiman-Marcus. There's free parking at the mall and we had the pleasure of interacting with the nicest staff: Tina. She was so helpful and understanding. We showed her our gifts and pointed out the attached tags. She looked up the merchandise in their system and found out that our friend had indeed purchased the shirts from the Crazy Shirts Outlet at Ward Village. I knew exactly where that store was because I had been there in the past. They have great deals on discontinued prints, flawed items, and vintage stock. Instinctively, I had originally guessed that the gifts had been purchased at the outlet because Crazy Shirts produces a high quality product. The fabric is thicker and sturdier than the material used for other t-shirts. Crazy Shirts last for a long time. The designs are unique, local, and creative. The pricing reflects the superb product. Being practical, I felt that our friend would have gotten our gifts at a more reasonable price - like at the Crazy Shirts Outlet at Ward Centre. For example, we looked at a regularly priced t-shirt that was $51.00. I just cannot see myself wearing something like that. Sorry. I'm aware of the rent at the Mall and I have high esteem for this brand, but I prefer the prices at the outlet. My mom is into fashions that show off the great designs that appear on a Japanese kimono and obi. So, it was really cool to finally visit Montsuki. A less well known local designer along the lines of Anne Namba (http://www.yelp.com/biz/anne-namba-designs-inc-honolulu ), the Yamasaki's have been custom designing kimono inspired clothing and accessories for years. I finally met Patty and she was very nice. Hearing all the stories from my mom and friend's mothers, I was interested to see what kind of stuff she had. Much of her clothing is quite elegant, I guess that's mainly a result of using kimono textiles as your base canvas. It's all very intricate and well made. She does quite a bit of custom work also seeing as she made a beautiful dress for my friend's mother. She sells everything from dresses, tops, jackets, purses, and if she doesn't have it, you can probably have her make one for you. Anyway, you've probably driven past this small boutique and not even known it. It's located right on Koko Head Avenue (close to the corner near Waialae Avenue). Go upstairs to a small hallway, you can actually see the sign from the street. Parking is in the metered lot behind.
