Still my favorite sushi restaurant!! I've moved out of the area but whenever I have a craving for sushi, I always find my way back here to Umai. Lunch was great and I had the restaurant all to myself! Waitress Amy was amazing and super attentive. I had Pinot Grigio and some of my favorite rolls: jalapeño, dragon and sombrero. Next time, I will go during their happy hour. read more

Comfortable & inviting sushi bar with a calm atmosphere. The fish was noticeably fresh--the yellowtail was clean and slightly buttery, while the other sushi rolls practically melted in our mouths! The rice was well-seasoned. Service was attentive without being intrusive. The price fit the portion size, and great for a date night. Can't wait to come back to try more! read more

Ordered through UberEats, got here quickly and tasted fresh and they didn't forget anything in our order!

Food was okay. Typical sushi. Gave my wife stomach issues, so I can't vouch for the quality as my stomach was good. Very hidden location. Honestly, will not return, good folks just not worth the trip. Wishing them the best! read more

Umai Sushi absolutely exceeded expectations. From the moment we walked in, the service was welcoming and attentive without being overbearing. The fish was incredibly fresh, the presentation was beautiful, and every roll we tried was packed with flavor. You can really tell they care about quality here. The sushi melted in your mouth, and even the appetizers were top-tier. It's not easy to find a spot that nails both taste and consistency, but Umai does. If you're looking for fresh, high-quality sushi with great service and a great atmosphere, this is the place. We'll definitely be back! read more

What happened? Been going here for years. First time I left frustrated. The "volcano roll"-- had absolutely NO SCALLOPS. There was some finely chopped up whitefish pretending to be scallops. Found three tiny chopped pieces pretending to be scallops. All the size of a fly. Wasn't baked. Barely had any sauce. For $20? No. Just no. Not coming back. I've been going since the day you opened. read more

Tasty. Quick. Fresh. Variety. Superior ingredients and ample portions. All of it creates a great value. Although it's not cheap.

What a great surprise! Was intending on going to another place (won't mention) and someone recommended Umai. Had never heard of it, and always looking for good sushi so decided why not. Small little place, but the quality was great! Grabbed a sashimi bento dinner so I could try several items, and also grabbed some Sake and Maguro Nigiri because I wanted to try those separate and was told the Salmon was really good. I should say that the sashimi bento came with 8 pieces which included Sake, Maguro, Toro and Hamachi. Did not disappoint! Salmon was velvety smooth and creamy (so were the other cuts)!! not the biggest pieces, but sufficient. Miso was good, house salad dressing is sesame oil based, and tasty. Tempura batter was light and crunchy, and the california hand roll was packed! As with any good sushi, you should expect to pay a decent price, but it's very worth it. read more

First time trying this place and could not be happier. If you love salmon try the Salmon Crown roll, the salmon is in place of where the rice would be. Super delicious! I also ordered the Tako sushi and the quality of octopus was very good. Great service as well as peaceful environment. Would absolutely come back. read more

I took off one star because the rolls are so poorly and loosely wrapped that they fall apart and are difficult to eat. And they weren't cut right, so the seaweed wasn't cut through and two or three pieces would be attached. Difficult and messy to eat for both those reasons. But the service was great, sushi fresh, and delicious. I'll definitely go back but likely ask for a knife if the seaweed isn't cut right. read more

This review is strictly for to-go orders. I haven't had a chance to dine in yet. My smallest dog is too clingy and since he can't sit in the dining room with us, who knows when I'll be able to eat there lol. Onto the food itself! My husband enjoyed the generous bento box with California roll. The specialty rolls have a bit more going on than I could enjoy. Rainbow roll: 4/5 stars because there's cooked shrimp on it Salmon roll: 5/5 stars because it's perfect the way it is and the flavor of the fish comes through Tuna roll: 5/5 stars, just as consistent as the salmon roll Sombrero roll: 4.25/5 because the sriracha is a bit overwhelming. If it were sriracha mayo to add a touch of butteriness that didn't compete with the fish, the fresh slices of deboned jalapeño slices on top could work well with the roll. Rocky Manhattan roll: 3.5/5 because many of these more specialty rolls have a little too much going on and the flavors get lost. It could do without the Cajun sauce IMO. Overall, solid! read more

Service was amazing, great recommendations! Every roll we got you could taste how fresh and unique they were. The price is also great. Cute little quaint restaurant in a very cute area. read more

Have had many excellent meals here. Service has been outstanding. Sushi is great. Good selection of saki's too!

Tonight's to go order was sad. We usually go here to eat but we decided we wanted to just grab and go. I asked to skip the lettuce and sub for rice. Don't think the sub was given. It's the smallest saddest Poke bowl I've ever had. Order x3 and all were the same. At $14.50 each, won't be coming back for to go orders. I suppose tonight I was shrinkflated. Cali roll was packed with hot food we ordered too. read more

Boy, is this place busy on a Saturday night. We made the mistake of not making reservations, which meant a bit of a wait as inside seating is limited. Restaurant does a lot of take out in addition to its busy sit down service. We were excited to sit and eat. Perhaps, the place was too busy as food took awhile, and was a bit sloppily made. Sushi rolls were standard, but not impressive. We ordered 2 poke bowls and paid extra $4 for the mix of tuna, salmon and yellowtail. Amount of fish was not that great, and 3 of my pieces of yellowtail had the silver skin still on it. Staff was aware, and I asked for a knife to cut it off myself. Overall, probably wouldn't go back with other options in the area. A shame since seems to be a family run business and everyone was really hustling and working hard. read more

New to TX but this is probably our favorite sushi spot that we have tried. Wish the lights were not so bright, but I won't take a star off for that. Love the riceless rolls, fish tastes fresh and friendly service. Cute little area it is located in too. read more

My second time here and definitely enjoyed the sushi yet again. My friend and I came in for lunch. The sushi is super fresh and very tasty. The service was good for only one waitress being there. She was so sweet but so busy. So if you're on a time schedule don't come for lunch. It's very cozy and offers a great selection of rolls and fish. We ordered two rolls, two appetizers and a ton of nigiri! The spicy edamame was a fan favorite as well as the spicy scallop nigiri. Nothing we had was anything but delicious. Parking though is a pain. read more

Our favorite sushi restaurant, but only for take-out. The ambiance is okay (kinda dingy lighting) but the food and service are great! The sushi is almost always super fresh, delicious, and not ridiculously expensive. We usually order 4 rolls and share between the two of us, and it comes out to about $60. They package the to-go items very neatly, and already assembled (some places put the sauces on the side, and then you end up not knowing which sauce belongs to which roll, ha), so I appreciate it all being ready to eat! Parking is easy at Adriatica, and for takeout, there is usually street parking available near the front. read more

Sushi was very good I really enjoyed it especially since I usually go to a different spot. Server was great. It was a chill atmosphere.

Really enjoyed my sombrero roll and tuna hand roll. Friendly service. Will be ordering from here again!

I was born and raised in South Florida and my husband is from New England. Needless to say, we are picky when it comes to fish. Umai did not disappoint. Don't let the unassuming ambiance fool you. This place is seriously amazing. We both ranked it among the top three sushi places we've been to. All of the rolls we had were amazing. My personal favorites were the sunflower and the firecracker. Equally fresh and creative which is tough to find in north Texas sushi fare. Service by Ivy was awesome. If you're thinking about checking this place out, do it! You won't be disappointed. read more

Danny took care of us. He was fantastic. The sushi here tasted really fresh and was the best I'd had in a long time. It was nice and quiet in there but we got there about an hour before closing on a Sunday. It is a little on the pricey side but it was totally worth it and I can't wait to go back. Great date night spot in terms of food and service. read more

My wife and I love this place. We love the gyoza and sake to start and each get a roll of our own. We are more than full after one roll each with the gyoza appetizer. The place is smaller than most other sushi places we frequent but we've never had to wait for a table, even during covid. read more

Absolutely terrible! Came for a late lunch during the week. Restaurant wasn't busy so figured I'd grab a bite. Hostess/server comes up to me and asks how many. I say 1 and she says "what would you like to drink?" Odd question considering she hadn't sat me yet and I'm at the entrance. Gives me a menu and sits me in an awkward spot between someone at the sushi bar and a table that's seemingly meant for a larger group. As I'm sitting, about 15 min pass. She never returns to take my order and didn't even bring a drink when asking me upon entering. But, she is serving people around me. Absolutely unacceptable!! read more

Located in such a beautiful area, eating at Umai Sushi makes it hard to wanna go to any other sushi joint during my stay in McKinney. Service is great, vibe is authentic, inside setup is very cool and modern for a smaller sushi restaurant, and the food tasted fresh and generous. I ordered the classic Rainbow Roll and a King Dragon roll while my coworker also order the Samurai and the Scorpion (which the latter 2 offered a little kick of heat, for you spicy lovers). They were all very delicious and more than satisfying. I also really love their miso soup! Not sure what it was exactly, but it tasted way better than other miso soups I've had before. Our lunch visit saw a good amount of people also coming in for their lunch breaks and post workouts. For lunchtime they got a good amount of business but it didn't take long at all to be seated. Lots of people arriving only affirmed to me the legitimacy of their high yelp ratings. It really is a great new sushi spot in a breathtaking area of McKinney! It's a must to give this place a visit! read more

It took awhile for us to find our Saturday night sushi go to. Found it! Umai is consistently great. I'm not a sushi fan in that I won't eat raw fish, etc. Now my husband has enjoyed sushi in 20+ states and several countries. He's eaten everything but Good Luck Kitty in some places. He wants his sushi spicy as well. Umai may not be a high end restaurant but the sushi is fresh, the rolls are well made and they won't mess up your order. Did I mention that the prices are very reasonable? Yep, that too. My husband picks up our order and reports that the store is clean and well appointed. You can order directly from the Umai website and save a dollar on each roll over ordering from a delivery service. read more

It was our first time coming out to eat here and we were very happy with everything!! It was packed on a Friday night but they got us seated at the bar in a timely manor. We ordered the mixed tempura appetizer and it was good! (Not pictured) and we got 2 rounds of hot sake each, and they really are only $1! I've ever heard of that great of a happy hour before! We will definitely be back! The music and crowd were lively, and the service was very timely! The staff all greeted you with a smile and were all hands on deck! YUM. My husband and I haven't been to a good sushi restaurant in almost a year, so we were so happy to find this place. I actually have several sushi places saved in my bookmarks, but I ultimately went here (my first time) because it was the closest to my house. I was not disappointed! I was so happy, in fact, that I brought my husband there the next night for dinner! We started off with the stuffed jalapeño. The flavors were great; there wasn't a huge amount of cream cheese in them, which I liked. We then ordered a couple rolls (I got the baked salmon and my husband got the Kim roll) & some sushi (salmon & tuna). Everything was delicious. Bonus! It was Thursday which means half-off house saki. We got hot green apple. Mmmmm. Can't wait to go back! read more

We came here as a party of 4 for a friends birthday dinner. The service was on point as well as the food. All the sushi and rolls were all made quickly and looked as good as it tasted. Surprisingly one of my favorite things was their veggie roll. As weird as that sounds. Everything in the menu was fresh and great tasting.
