Really disappointing experience at Wasabi Sushi. Most of the food we were served was cold or…read morelukewarm at best when it should have been hot. The chicken skewer was especially concerning. It was dried out, tasted off, and I didn't feel comfortable eating it. I told our waitress that the chicken tasted off, but she became defensive and insisted there was nothing wrong with it because they had been selling it all day. They remade one chicken skewer, which came out hot, but the rest of the food remained cold or barely warm. We barely ate our meals because of the quality of the food. When it came time to deal with the bill, the waitress was confrontational and initially offered to take only a small amount off despite how little we had eaten. We ultimately left $20 toward the bill. As we were leaving, the waitress yelled at us, "Don't come back." Needless to say, we won't. I will say the sushi chef was much nicer and seemed genuinely apologetic about the situation, which I appreciated. I don't expect every restaurant experience to be perfect, but I do expect concerns about food quality--especially chicken that tastes off--to be taken seriously and handled professionally. Unfortunately, that wasn't our experience here.

Considering how long it's been here and my love for sushi, it's extraordinary and dilatory of me…read morethat this is my first visit. Located in an unremarkable strip mall near Kearney Lake road, it has a delightful, bright, light and authentic interior. It features tables and booths, with a long chef's counter along one side and can accommodate quite large groups. Menu is comprehensive, with many traditional starters, simple rolls and some more luxurious Specials, bentos, combo's and ramen among the features. I went for my favourite appetizer, tako yaki, followed by the Fuji san special roll. No complaints at all, the roll was enormous and filled to the brim with fish and other delights. At eight pieces, it was almost a meal in itself. It really needs a group to select several options and share. Together with a small sake (served in the prettiest jug I've ever seen) and tip it all came to just north of $40. Definitely worth several more visits, especially with the cooler weather indicating ramen for lunch!

Hello, after having lived in Vancouver for many years and undoubtedly having become a sushi addict…read moreI have moved out east (Quebec) and since then I am still in search for decent sushi's. On our visit to Halifax I was looking forward to seeing if the sushis here would be taking advantage of the fresh crab meat and finally grant me with the Sushi epiphany I have been looking for for the past four years. This place came in highly recommended by two of our local friends and five stars Yelp so I decided to give it a shot. The place is well located in front of a lake in what seems to be a very nice neighbourhood. The staff greeted us in a friendly manner and kids felt welcomed. The place was clean too. We had some veggies tempuras, California rooks, circus rolls and I can't remember the last one. I must say I was a little bit disappointed with the sushi taste, the presented nicely, yes that is true but the taste was fairly neutral. The rice was well cooked and stuck to the chopsticks adequately but I would have expected a little more flavour out of the rolls themselves. The one we choose had a lot of batter spread on top, a little too much to my taste but it's ok as we could put it on the side but I would still expect a bit more flavour out of it. For instance a California roll in Vancouver was shredded crabsticks mixed in some sort of mayo (mayo might not be the term) and on the east coast most sushis have the crab stick just cut, not shredded no sauce with it. I thought that with all the fresh crab meat available here I could expect something a little more original. Even the other rolls with crab in them (not the California roll) did not bring out the crab flavour. As a result it is not a bad sushi restaurant at all but I would have expected for more from such a highly recommended and five stars rated restaurant.

Was craving some sushi so ordered two rolls for take out, a spicy scallop and a spicy tuna roll. I have eaten in and taken out from here before and was generally satisfied with the food, recently heard from other people that the food here was going downhill and to order from the Halifax location instead. There was so much tempura bits in the roll they wouldn't even stay together. And my soya sauce because completely saturated with tempura that it looked more like a brown paste. Never again! Couldn't even eat it.
