I have "tricky" hair (very fine with cowlicks and random waves) and Scott is literally the only stylist I've been to who knows how to work with my hair and make it look not only great the day of the cut but also in every part of the grow-out phase. We started with a cute precision bob and then ultimately took the plunge and opted for a super-short pixie which I LOVE. I thought about growing it out (knowing that he would make it look fantastic during every stage) but I probably will keep it short, as it gives me more excuses to go visit him haha! Jokes aside, I really can't speak highly enough about him. Super great guy who listens to his clients and is clearly an expert at his job. Thank you so much, Scott!! -Melanie S.

In one hyphenated word: RIP-OFF…read more Scheduling: annoying, deficient and hypocritical. (Yes, hypocritical.) Booked appointment days in advance and was required to give credit card (so JGS can charge for 24 hours or less cancellation). Not even the elite salons do that. The irony? 3 hours before my appointment, JGS called to cancel ("reschedule" me with someone else -- but let's face it -- that's a cancellation). My appointment had been scheduled for 2 PM, but was re-scheduled to 3:30 PM (at great inconvenience to me). Even more frustrating was that the stylist I was re-booked with was still working on another client and so my appointment didn't start until 3:40 PM. Normally I wouldn't mind -- I get it, appointments run over -- but under the circumstances? Not acceptable. Desk Receptionist (Vanessa): Condescending and indolent. Marketing: $50 hair cut "for new clients" is a deceptive ploy to get you in the door. There is tiny font that says "starting at," however, JGS surprise prices you. Also, added to every bill is a "5% Service Fee" (what the...???) and a $1.00 "Eco Fee" (again, what the...??). Surreptitious, deceptive, scam marketing and hidden, invented fees. Are you kidding me??? Hair cut: eh. The technique is textbook, not talent. Basic hair-cut requested, and the result is adequate, but not great. The stylist's predecessor client's hair was also just "eh." When you leave a hair salon, that's when your hair usually looks it's best and one feels great. Not the case at JGS. (The stylist herself, however, was very sweet and easy to talk to, but, c'mon, you ain't paying to make friends.) I discussed coloring, highlighting specifically, and was a bit horrified when the stylist endeavored to explain how the highlighting process worked and spoke of bleaching. Bleaching? Are you serious? I've had highlighting done for the last 15 years -- bleaching was not used because it destroys one's hair. The stylist was unfamiliar with non-bleach highlighting. Environment: phoney upscale m, corporate cookie-cutter, with overly loud music. Not peace-inducing at all. Product: they sell and use one (Aveena). If you have never tried Aveena let me spare you: overpriced disappointment in a bottle. JGS is not what it gives off airs of being. If you seek an upscale, classy, quality salon with real-world experience and knowledge beyond hair-care 101, this ain't it.

The owner has not kept up with maintenance, updated decor or painted. She added stylists, crammed more people into a small space and everyone e has to keep their products locked up for fear of theft. it is obvious that the landlord is not responsive to major repairs such as stained ceiling tiles, leaking plumbing etc. One time I was there the owner had fixed the toilet with a paperclip. I had a very disappointing experience at Avenue Hair Design with stylist Madysn…read more Before my appointment, I was asked to send inspiration photos and was led to believe the look I wanted could be achieved. Had I been told otherwise, I would not have taken time off work, driven a significant distance, or rearranged my schedule. I felt misled. I was very clear that I wanted a blended blonde balayage with blonde throughout, including brighter face-framing pieces in the front, while keeping my natural darker root. I also requested baby lights throughout to match the inspiration photos. The results looked nothing like what I asked for. There is still a visible line/band and the color is not properly blended. The blonde I've had for years is gone, leaving my hair orange/caramel fading into light brown instead of blonde. I've been blonde for about 20 years and know this look is achievable, as my regular stylist has done it successfully for years. I also grew my hair out for over a year to keep it healthy and restore my natural dark roots, and that progress cannot be undone. I took before and after photos and have documentation. When I contacted the salon afterward, the front desk manager was dismissive, told me I was "wrong," and showed no concern for how unhappy I was. I was offered toning, but I do not feel comfortable allowing further chemical services due to the risk of damage, and I should not be expected to return after receiving results that were not what I requested. I will not be returning, and I'm sharing this so others can make an informed decision THEY WILL NOT GIVE A REFUND!!!!

They would not give be another appointment because I would not leave a CC. There are plenty of great places to go in Venice that don't require my CC in advance. Leaving a credit card on file at a hair salon presents risks regarding data security, potential unauthorized or erroneous charges, and, in some cases, inflexible cancellation fees. While salons use cards to protect against no-shows, storing your information increases vulnerability to data breaches, unauthorized staff access, or disputes over service quality.
