I had a pick up order and when I came in, I was immediately greeted. I was told someone would be with me shortly as it was very busy. Erica was helping a customer with an order while another woman was ringing up a very long line. Customers were bickering about some sort of conflict amongst themselves and the woman at the register called for help to move the line quicker and diffuse tension. Then there was an issue with a return so Erica went to go help as she has more access (assuming she is some sort of manager). She quickly handled it with so much grace and continuously thanked everyone for their patience while moving swiftly. Came in for an exchange and ran into some issues due to some promo. Anyway that isn't why I gave 2 stars.... I walked out the store and realized the problem so I went back to ulta to talk to cashier and she looked at me and said "that girl is back" thru her earpiece (instead of saying girl maybe say customer?). The "manager" or female with med wavy hair came over (doesn't say hi or smile) and the whole time I was explaining the situation she looked absolutely so annoyed at me lol. my mom and I came here on a very slow weekday. There was no one at the store. Maybe came across two or three associates. I felt like one was avoiding me as we looked eye to eye. And she approached this white lady. So I'm not sure if she's just being racist because I look Asian. And then my mom, was asking a question to one other associate who was on the phone texting. And she didn't want to help her. She just asked her to go to the front and asked the question. it seems like the reviews on here, is either short staff or/and bad customer service. Yikes...why is staff so unpleasant at this location? I don't get it. I actually try to avoid shopping here by opting for pick-up orders. But even those quick interactions are strained. It's like you're bothering them. You can walk in with a smile and a nice mood and quickly leave feeling like you did something wrong. Because that's how the girls working here make you feel. While I do appreciate not getting pestered and overwhelmed with questions and small talk, it wouldn't kill them to say hello when you walk in. Crack a smile. It's called customer service! The pressure of creating an account is uncomfortable, and the employees look at you with suspicion instead of being welcoming and friendly. This was the first time I was told that in order to make a return I would need to give my phone number. I have no interest in giving my number or returning anything. Had a horrible experience at this Ulta. My email was already in the system from the first purchase. The sales cashiers constantly asked me for my email every time I went back. I tried to communicate with one cashier that I have given my email multiple times, but she was extremely rude and impolite, screaming at me to give my email. It seems they were kept asking for my email to create nuisance every time I bought something. And she screamed when I politely asserted myself. This means the sales cashiers was being sneaky and pulled some third grade antics, or my email was already there in the system and they just wanted to create extra inconvenience and nuisance I'm also not impressed with their product lines. So I placed an order through DoorDash for a few Cecred products. One of the items wasn't delivered at all. I called customer service and they told me that I would have to walk into the store and show my receipt in order to have the issue addressed. I went to the Sunnyvale location and was basically interrogated by a woman named Britney. She asked for the phone number associated with the purchase and then said that she couldn't pull anything up. I opened my American Express app and showed the charge and no refund. I showed the confirmation number and it became very clear that I did make a purchase and something went wrong with the delivery. I found it really odd that the sales associate that helped me with my second purchase was able to pull everything up just fine with my phone number. Not everyone is a thief, very bizarre to be treated this way by a woman of color. I've been thinking about this interaction for a while and I will be escalating to corporate. This is a relatively new Ulta, located across from Whole Foods & AMC Theater (and around the corner from Target). There's plenty of parking in the covered garage, or the open parking lot kitty corner from Ulta. It's large and very clean inside, and the displays are mostly neat and organized. It's fun browsing through the store. I like how they have a wide range of products, from affordable "drug store" brands to more expensive higher end brands. There is something for everyone's budget. Price signage is very good so you won't get sticker shock when you are checking out. They have a hair salon at the back of the store, and I noticed one person having their hair done. They also have a makeover area near the front of the store, and I saw someone having her makeup done there. I think they were a bit short staffed while I was at the store because nobody came up to me to ask whether I needed help. This could have been helpful since this is the 3rd Ulta store I've visited during the past week (I first went to the one in San Jose, then the one in Cupertino before coming here) and all 3 stores have slightly different layout and displays. I ended up circling around a few times looking for something. It was still fun to browse though. All 3 stores are "same but different". They have mostly the same brands/items, however the amount of product for each brand varies by store. So I feel I may need to visit all 3 stores to find something specific. I like the Sunnyvale location best because there is other stuff nearby within easy walking distance ... some nice restaurants, Target, Whole Foods, and an AMC movie theater. read more

Worst experience! I wish I had read these reviews before purchasing. I've been looking for a new facial regimen and my friend on the East Coast had recommended Ulta. I tried a new line and was told if it didn't work then I could return. A few days in my face started getting red patches and one of the products burned my face. When I went to return they said they could not return. I just left the products there and will never shop here again. They were not helpful and did not event try to help me find a new line though I was very clear I was looking for a new face system. They also had no response as to why my skin was reacting. Went in for a quick grab of my items and planned to use a birthday discount code. Cashier Tooba was not happy about looking up my credit card account AND having to apply a birthday discount. I asked to use my discount before making my purchase, and she asked me to continue on payment pad and we would "process after." After removing earrings from newly pierced ears for a medical procedure, I couldn't get them back in by myself. The original piercer from a smoke shop having gone on vacation, I waited overnight to being the LONG hunt to find a salon to reinsert then. Bad idea. Piercing services are not all that easy to find. Fortunately, Ulta Sunnyvale has them. Lexi M., their technician, insisted I make an appointment to make sure everything ran smoothly. She proceeded carefully, explaining each step along the way. The process was difficult and painful -- there's a reason I couldn't get them back in by myself -- but I was so GRATEFUL to have an expert at hand, I did not care. - She confirmed -- hot flash! -- that when removing posts from new piercings, even if it's been months, it's important to reinsert immediately. She did not charge for the service, despite that fact that I did not having the original piercing done at Ulta, nor did I buy anything from the store. I offered her the opportunity to sell new posts, but she did NOT try to sell me up. The ones I had were the right ones. I highly recommend Lexi and wish her well in her professional career because that's what she is -- a professional. read more

I honestly think if It's short staffed, no one should chew more than they can swallow or at least call for help (or back up instead of allowing the customer to wait over 15 minutes to find out if there is more in stock of the NYX lip liner on the shelf!) Or each customer should have a time limit of no more than 15 mins asking for makeup advice! I came in knowing what I wanted and in all honesty, spent like 5 mins with the female staff walking around whom I was able to flag down for makeup advice (with the cosmetics in my hand and I literally just needed color advice and distinguishing quality of the two brands I had chosen. But when I found her again, instead of giving me a time frame of when she would be free or radio in assistance as she had been using while she was helping me, she did not and looked flustered as a matter of fact. Before approaching her I had waited for what seemed like 15 mins as she gave step by step advice and logic with an older customer who seemed clueless with how to use makeup! I believe she could've asked for assistance or instead of having me waiting and pretending to wait patiently in front of the NYX line, she could've reassured that help was on the way. But she didn't. Shout out to the male rep who jumped in when I approached him in one of the aisles and he went back to retrieve the color I had asked for. If I were reviewing Ulta's rewards program and variety of products/brands, I'd give them 5/5 stars. However, I am reviewing this specific Sunnyvale location, so 1/5 stars. I would say about 90% of the visits I've made to this location, is always a bittersweet experience. Sweet because I buy great products, bitter because I have to endure the interactions with the Ulta staff. I have met probably 1 kind employee there. Listen, I am a millennial that has terrible social skills and would much rather be left alone than followed around the store by an employee. That doesn't mean I enjoy being greeted and serviced by rude and unfriendly employees. Honestly this entire team is full of mean girls that have absolutely no interpersonal skills. The manager has not once ever said "hello, please and thank you" or even a smile every since time I've gone in. Not sure if she's in a big mood every time I go in but looks to be like she hates interacting with people. I'm not looking to make friends of the employees but just basic manners and respectful treatment seems to be too difficult for this personnel. If you want to go to this location by all means, go.
