I went to Ulta salon yesterday for what should have been a simple haircut. My instructions couldn't have been clearer: keep the length, keep the shape, just thin it out and add layers. That's it. A 30-40 minute job, tops. Instead, I sat in that chair for two exhausting hours while the stylist who casually admitted it was her first time working on thick, curly hair, experimented on me like a practice mannequin. The result? A complete disaster. She hacked off my length, left my ends so thin they barely exist, and turned the entire back of my hair into an uneven, incoherent mess that looks like it was done by someone drunk with scissors. Nothing flows, nothing blends. I look butchered. And the worst part? I have two major events coming up this weekend and next and I honestly don't know how I'm supposed to show my face in public like this. In my 44 years, I've had bad haircuts before, but never anything this horrendous. A 5-year-old could have done better. To add insult to injury, I was charged $50 for an "experienced stylist" yet what I got was a kindergarten-level attempt. I am horrified, humiliated, and furious. Don't go to Ulta for your hair. Ever. Im very self sufficient finding stuff but a simple greeting with eye contact won't hurt. A couple of ladies behind the register look like they don't want to be there. Danielle is amazing!! It's so funny cause I opened this app to write a review for her and I saw another one about her! I have struggled with adult acne all my life. She helped me find reasonably priced products from The Ordinary that helped me and now I have clear skin for like the 3rd time only in my life! She spent SO LONG helping me and talking me through all the options and explaining how the products work. I hate to bother people but she kept coming back to check on me and it made it easy to ask questions. Also, Ash helped me with some hair oils. I have really fine hair and most hair oil weighs it down. Ash helped me find oils that would help it stay long and grow but would not weigh it down while keeping it shiny. I really wanted silicone free products and she helped me find the right match even though I had so many requirements. I went in a second day to get more products because I had had so much success with the previous ones (I NEVER buy stuff and man, these really helped). Having the RIGHT products for you is a game changer. I had just gone through a breakup and wanted to look pretty. These ladies reallly helped me. Ashley worked at the hair salon counter and I asked her about all the products I was looking at. She knew exactly why different ingredients worked for different types of people. If you're looking to save money on visiting the old salon, I would not recommend wasting your time. This is the second time I've made an appointment and it's been canceled on the day of or an hour before the appointment. I had originally made an appointment with Donna who called the day of my appointment to say she could not get me in at my schedule time and recommended Angelica who could get. I was placed on hold to confirm with Angelica that she could just do a simple haircut. Donna then confirm with Angelica and myself we agreed on the time. Not even an hour before the appointment, Angelica called to then say she could not get me in on that day because she did not have enough. I just canceled the appointment. Overall, the stylist are completely unprofessional have no time management, and it's clear why they have to work out of the retail store instead of having their own business at a real salon because of their unprofessionalism and their laziness and poor time management. After having the sense in it happened twice in a row, I will never waste my time going into the store or booking any kind of services with the salon now or in the future. Again, I would not book with Donna or Angelica as I stated before neither one know anything about professionalism or any type of customer service. read more

When I went into the Ulta in Happy Valley in Phoenix, I went to look at the brow dip pomade. I was trying to find the right colors. I purchased online, but it wasn't right. The lady that was helping me was stuck on the fact that I would definitely need something darker, for my skin type. Definitely darker, was what she kept saying. Not necessarily. She wasn't listening to me tell her what I was looking for. I had the ash brown, but it had too much of a "sheen". I was telling her I wanted something with more of a deeper brown. Now I have to make a return to this place and I already feel like it's been hell in the making with returns We moved over to the matte lipstick she showed me where they were, then promptly told me she heard someone "calling for her..." (tacky) so she had to run. Yes, lipstick are complicated when your dark skinned and they only make 4-5 colors that sort of look right for you... but know those colors and let me explore. Non-black women don't have the patience. They want you to know what you want black girl, show them where it is, leave them alone, or get out of there store. There's really no in between. You can feel the distain with some. That not my total experience, but a lot. I spend a lot of time in these stores and I had to think, what changed? It's the attitude of detachment. Honestly, I used to LOVE this ulta location!!! (Happy Valley) I would never shop anywhere else even it was a Sephora or Mac exclusive. My favorite manager left and then my favorite employees slowly started leaving shortly after, Amber is still hanging in there and she is honestly the only one left that is kind. Unless you're all dressed up and look like you're going to spend a ton of money, they simply do not care or acknowledge you. I went in because I wanted to get the cute blue makeup bag with the 19.50 qualifying purchase, so picked up an $8 ulta lip liner, as well as a Harry Potter ultabrand makeup set for $13.99, Im bad at math and even I knew that would get me to the needed price. The lady then looked at me and told me I couldn't get the blue bag because I hadn't reached the needed price, I kindly corrected her and she called over a blonde woman who I'm assuming was a manager or a higher up, and she whispered to the first woman who was checking us out as if we weren't right there. She said "no it's not valid, if the system doesn't accept it, it obviously doesn't work." I wasn't going to stand and argue with two women who couldn't even keep masks over their noses, so I simply asked to take the lip liner off and to put the bag back and purchase the Harry Potter set and better than sex mascara. On top of this all, the ulta brand products are ridiculously expensive for how underwhelming they are, $12 for a single brush? That sheds all over the place? When I could go to morphe and spend the same price on 2? I will not be spending my money here and will be going to morphe and Sephora! read more

Be careful returning any gifts without a gift receipt. I just brought back a t3 curling wand that I got as a gift. Was trying to avoid asking the buyer for the receipt (I felt bad for some reason), so I figured it'd be the same as returning something without a receipt and I'd just get store credit. No biggie, I shop here all the time anyway. The curling wand I had is on their site site $150, they tried giving me $76 in store credit!!!! I booked a hair color appointment 3.5 weeks out and the day of the appointment I received a call from the stylist's (Nicki Harth-Happy Valley Ulta) assistant, Zach, 2.5 hours prior to come in an hour early or we'd have to reschedule. I wasn't able to and was told if I got there before 3 Nicki Harth could still keep the appointment. Unfortunately, with the I-17 southbound weekend construction and my leaving an hour early for the 20 miniute drive, I arrived 5 minutes late was told by Nicki Harth she'd need to reschedule when she had time. She did not even bother to take care of rescheduling when I arrived. I had a feeling it wasn't going to happen with all the calls, texts and emails. Thankfully, I made a backup appointment with a stylist at another salon not associated with ULTA. Funny as when I arrived, the entire salon was standing around chatting at the counter. I'm super bad at makeup. Because of my combo skin I can never find the right foundation match or brand for me. I usually come every so often when I find something online that might work with me. Hence me coming in last Sunday. I wanted to try a new foundation and also pick up some lip glosses (By the way they carry the Kylie Jenner Lip gloss and lipsticks here) I walked in and wasn't greeted. I walked to the high-end foundation area and came across some employees who were just standing there chatting amongst themselves. Another customer was asking her friend for help with finding her perfect shade and was at the little makeup station trying various shades. Not once did any of the employees walk up to us and ask us if we are needing assistance. I ended up going to the "drug store" makeup end of the store and just picking out something cheap. On my way across the store, I passed by two employees and even looked one in the eye and I still didn't get a single "hello" or "can I assist you with anything today" from them. I'm willing to spend a good amount at Ulta especially cause my skin needs some TLC due to being off hormonal birth control. I was going to also buy some high-end skincare products during my visit as well but the fact that I couldn't get a single employee to acknowledge my existence made me think that if I wasn't good enough to get just a sliver of customer service then they don't deserve any more then the $30 I spent. WARNING: LONG REVIEW BUT HAPPY CUSTOMER! So I've been coming here pretty regularly for my hair. I see Shaina and absolutely adore her! Today I went in to exchange a CC cream I ordered online. I chose the wrong shade online and it was way too dark. I also thought I would check out some skincare products for my husband who suffers from KP & folliculitis. He never used skincare products before so I needed something that wouldn't be too complicated for him to use. Now I have to mention that I have become self conscious over the last few months. Being locked in my house so long during COVID has me feeling uncomfortable at times in public. I'll walk in super casual looking with a Star Wars t-shirt, leggings and Vans. Sometimes when I'm dressed like this I'm not even approached so I expected that when I walked in with my mom. But today! I walked in and was greeted immediately. I felt comfortable as I walked over to the skincare area, I was offered help as I approached. This girl was polite and walked me over to a brand she suggested. She walked away while I took a look. After looking for what felt like 5 minutes, another very polite girl walked up to me. This was Hannah. As soon as I told her what I was now struggling to find for my husband, she immediately went into action. She called over another very nice girl, Ash. The two girls were so dedicated to help me find something that would work we walked through two other sections and found great products to try. Hannah also politely kept reminding me of the return policy if the products don't work out. I was so impressed with how they took my husbands skin conditions seriously enough to look through products from other parts of the store for me. In total it took us about 10 minutes. I was super happy and relieved to find solid options to help my husband. Absolutely impressed with the customer service! But that's not all! I walked over to the line to checkout and noticed some of the staff chatting. They noticed me ready to pay and Morgainne immediately greeted me with a smile. I walked over and she commented on how she liked my shirt. I was flattered especially considering all the times I felt self conscious here before. I told her thank you and politely joked that I hate looking a mess when running errands. She looked at me and jokingly said she would be dressed the same if she could. I felt so much more comfortable. Again after being stuck in a house, it was reassuring as I start getting out more safely. So polite and kind! A nice little booster. I know this is a novel but I really just want to give a full picture of how the staff was just so amazing and helpful! And now, I'll feel even more comfortable when I visit again. Unprofessional and snide. It's been a while time since I've had someone look down their nose at me like a was an insignificant bug. I had to exchange an on line purchase in store because the product was defective. As I walked in their 'greeter' asked what I needed, I told her I was doing an exchange, SHE directed me to checkout line but, once I got to the front of the line, that associate informed me that I had to go get the replacement item first and them come back and...you've got it...wait in line again. Then they rang up the return and recharged me for the same item. She informs me that I owe .18c, because of the tax difference. Really?! ULTA, when you are the source of the inconvenience, you need to figure out how not to further detract from the customer's shopping experience. With a defective return, give them $'s off, so you don't have to 'add insult to injury' by asking the customer for more money, regardless of whether it's only .18c. Figure it out!! FYI...The Manager on duty that came over during the return, she was the one that was so snide. I really don't ever want to walk in an ULTA again. Who needs the aggravation when there are so many other options besides ULTA for buying Beauty products. read more

When I was shopping in the store today I overheard a manager talking to an employee saying that she "managed" all of the employees out of the store. Today I came into Ulta and they always have had a 100% guarantee for the Chi straighteners to be able to bring it in and be able to get a another Chi and exchange it. It has never been a problem before in the past but this certain location obviously did not help me at all! They said that they could do something as far as like a blind return but that didn't work either so I would definitely not recommend the store because the customer service sucks and obviously they're not willing to make their customers happy!!
