Augustan (spelling?) the manager at this location went above & beyond his call of duty, using extreme patience & effort trying to get my gift certificate to work. When another employee who was also very helpful pulled a different gift certificate in my emails up with the wrong date. ( I'm spoiled & I have a very generous daughter & son in law who have given me several!) we could not figure out what was wrong. He called customer service & was on hold for several minutes - when I thought to go back & make sure the correct date was pulled up & it was an old one. I clicked on the new one & wahlah! It worked. By the way customer service never did answer!! But Augustan stayed cool throughout the whole process. Was on vacation and decided to hit up ukta for some beauty products. Upon entering the store no one greeted my sister and I. Which is nothing new considering Ulta employees dont really greet customers. Once, inside i browsed around and yet again no ulta employee around to help look for a product. Even tho the employees passed by us, and most likely saw our faces of being lost walking around the store looking for a specific item. Finally found the product that i was looking for after being in the store for 20 minutes. Grab the item and purchased it. Cashier was rude couldnt even tell me the total of the items. My first time ever bringing my little sister into a makeup shop, I was hoping someone could give her some tips on doing her eyebrows. When we walked through the door, we were pleasantly greeted by associates which is rare these days and was very refreshing. When we made our way to the Benefit table, Gabby was beyond kind and helpful to my little sister. She showed her some tips and tricks and really made her feel special. I didn't make an appointment, it was a spur of the moment thing so for her to do it was so kind and meant a lot. This is my favorite makeup store the employees are very nice and helpful. The store has many brands to choose from very clean.

I had my hair highlighted the other day and it came out to $200. When it was finished I literally wanted to cry. It's very yellow and not blended at all, very chunky. She did not even get the bleach all the way to my roots, which is going to make me have to get my hair done again faster. Very disappointed, won't be going back. Walked in this morning to look at the perfumes and hair styling products. They were setting up a display or maybe unboxing right where I needed to look, and the employees instead of greeting me literally just bumped into me as I was trying to look at a certain fragrance (while staying out of their way best I could). The price on the perfume I was interested in was $30 higher in price than online, and the 20% off coupon I brought in would not have been able to make that difference. We waited 10 minutes for her to come out then I received a notification of my appointment being pushed back from its original time. I tend to spend a lot more time in Ulta than I did before I was married. The truth is I like shopping with my wife for stuff, and that includes makeup. Plus, I am always amazed at all of the 'stuff' women have to choose from compared to shaving cream and deodorant that I use... We came in as we were from out of town and my wife needed some new foundation and wanted someone to help her match her skin tone to a new type she had not used before. The girl who helped us was really nice and did a good job picking two similar shades and then letting us look and compare before she gave her opinion. We all agreed on a color and then she recommended some setting spray my wife liked and got a travel sized bottle of. We finally asked and were told "oh sorry they only sent a few." Maybe I just expect more from a "higher end" store but I would have thought they would have offered something in its place. I honestly don't know why this Ulta is getting a low rating. Is everyone really high maintenance in Central Coast? I'm a transplant from the SF Bay Area where everyone don't even keep an eye contact let alone say hi to customers. Everyone are very nice at this shop and I always get greeted and even if I don't, I never hold it against them- as a matter of fact, I like to be left shopping alone! I can find my way around Ulta, pick my favorite items and new items I want to try. Anyhow I went to have my brows waxed & the girl suggested a brow lamination. I agreed & made it clear I like natural brows. When I saw what she did I was speechless. I felt like a clown. I don't know who would think this looks nice or professional. I told her her brows looked nice & I wanted something similar. I feel like she did the opposite. I couldn't wait to leave & wash it off. My brows go in all different directions & honestly she ruined them. When I mentioned they were different shapes she said " you came in like that". I frequent this ULTA - good sales and convenient location for me. The girls are generally nice and it's got it all (save for a few brands, but no biggie.) That being said, I have two issues. I think ULTA needs more help! If I have a question or need help finding something, there's almost no one to be found except at the register - and they're already busy. I also try not to ask for reccomendations, because even if I state I'm looking for lower-budget products, they push me towards the most expensive products regardless. It sometimes feel like they're not listening to my concerns, they just care about making a big sale. That being said, the girls are always pleasant! I have seen several other reviews complaining about them being rude, but that has never been my experience. The biggest issue - their waxing services. I'd advise against getting your brows done here - there's plenty of local businesses that are less expensive and WAY more thorough! When I had my brows done, I couldn't tell with the lighting how many hairs the girl had missed until I was in my car. I was really disappointed with wasting $20 + tip and having to finish my eyebrows at home. :( I read more

I have been very pleased with my experience at Ulta Paso Robles. I go in for my regular facials with the esthetician Lotte. The dermalogica products she uses are in my mind the absolute best. I am in my fifties and my skin has greatly improved thanks to the professional facial treatments I have been getting from Lotte. She does a great arm and hand massage as well. Lotte is very knowledgeable about the products she uses and the specific products she has recommended for my skin type. The store and esthetician salon is well organized and very clean. The staff is super helpful and welcoming. This store is my to go to for all skincare and haircare needs. Everything under one roof and an excellent inventory. After reading the other reviews I have noticed that they are all over the map. Too many staff, not enough staff; I guess people can be fickle. Great store! read more

It was 30min before closing time. The girl that helped me disapprove the back of the store. Got up to the register to pay and a woman (curly haired blond woman with gem covered glasses) completely ignored us. No sooner did a group of girls that she knew walked through the door and she began to chat with them while we were still waiting.... Convo continues..... we are still standing right in front of her. No hello I'll be right with you....nothing. She was so blasé and dismissive by the time she got to checking us out because she was still talking to the girls while ringing us up. She threw my items in a bag and scurried us along. Clearly we were in her way and interrupting her visit with her friends. So rude. Never going back to that store again. read more

They ruined my hair! I spent $200 on getting my hair done! I'm a mom of two and barely have time to do anything for myself with working a full time 50 hour a week job. Finally was able to afford and treat myself and they ruined it! I was there for 5 hours to get this done!! Why 5 hours? Then on top of that I was told they would work their schedule around to fix it. Then I spoke to the salon manager who was rude and didn't want to budge on scheduling. I'm livid! Now I'm just waiting for a refund so I can go to a real salon to get my hair fixed! I went to Ulta today after debating and debating. Trying to save money...The only reason I went was because I had a $15 off coupon (score) I didn't necessarily need anything, I did want to find a lip scrub. Upon entering there were about 3 people standing at the door...I thought to greet customers and ask if they needed any help. But no just there to smile and nod and look blankly. Even when I myself smiled and said hi, no offer of is there anything I can help you find? Not that I needed help at that moment, I was just browsing anyways. So I'm looking around for about 2 minutes and bam two employees right in my vicinity, I smile again...still no offer to help find anything. Ok...that's fine. Kinda gave me the impression I was being watched ‍....idk, So then they start talking about personal stuff and I go about my day and keep browsing. I find some lotions on sale which I'm pretty sure say $1.75 each...so I load up on them!!! Get to the register and there about 3 employees standing behind the counter and one to the side who says are you ready? She asks if I found everything ok? I never could find my lip scrub...she seemed like she wanted to help but was maybe the only cashier...not sure why since there were about 3 other people standing around...so she rings up my items and it's way more then I thought...I take some things off and it's still a lot of money. It's taking up a lot of time and there are people waiting in line, so I didn't want to take any longer to figure it out. I don't understand why no one else jumped in to help? Come to find out the lotions were $7.50 each!!! Goin back tomorrow to fix it...but this isn't the first time I've been disappointed with this Ulta location. read more

SALON REVIEW: First I made an appointment weeks ahead of time and when I arrived to my appointment time (the salon was dead) my hairstylist was on lunch break! (Why have times set when you know you have a client coming) had to wait until she got back to get it done. That should of been my sign to just leave but I decided to just stick around and get a haircut there thinking they'd be better than going to like super cuts or something like but boy was I wrong! The stylist (best one they had btw) totally ruined my hair! I asked for a simple haircut a little below the shoulder nothing crazy, basically a trim and the girl gave me a bob that was totally crazy choppy and un-even, I know that that's the style but this haircut was sooo bad, she also didn't style it basically just wet it with a spray and then cut it and I was done, sent me on my way looking like a wet dog! I was so upset that I paid $55 dollars for some trash service that I could have easily just gone to a regular salon. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

I've come into this location twice already and I've had the same kinda okay experience. I've been to 2 other Ulta locations before so I know what to expect. This location however has the most aesthetically pleasing lay-out that makes the most sense. The fact that everything is always stocked and the testing areas in the makeup department are always clean is perfection compared to other locations. I think there is a problem with the way Ulta trains new employees because I've picked up on hit-and-miss customer service problems and it's always the same thing. Nobody is ever there to help you out and they barely have any staff members on the floor (that are not running the cashiers) that can help you out if you need it. This is the most noticeable if you come in during non-peak hours. I don't quite understand why customer service has to suffer if you choose to come before/after non-peak hours. Another thing I've noticed is a lack of knowledge about the products they're selling. I don't expect every person there to know the ins and outs of NYX cosmetics, but it is helpful if employees have experience with the products they sell. I don't believe this is something they require employees to have, but I know that if you're going to sell beauty/hair products it's probably best to know the product. The reason why I knock one star is because on my way to check-out I overheard the manager complaining to an employee who was ringing up a customer about the difficulties of training other employees because everyone has 'their own idea'. I don't think this is an acceptable conversation to ever have in front of a customer. Have it before work, on your lunch break or after work I don't care, but it's completely unprofessional to complain about your employees as a manager when you're ringing people up. To end on a positive note, on my second trip to this location I was rung up by Lucia. It is rare for me to see a cashier at an Ulta location be as friendly, attentive, and quick (she cut down a long line in record time) as she was. She helped me out with a minor problem on my Ulta card and made me feel like it wasn't a disservice to her. read more
