Halloween was right around the corner, and I had no idea what I wanted to do. I haven't purchased a costume in the longest, so I decided to put the focus on my face makeup instead. I saw some really cool ideas online, and figured I would make an appointment at Ulta to have it professionally done, especially since my makeup skills are basically non-existent. My appointment was with Paola, and she was awesome! Lucky me, she had literally just done something very similar to what I wanted, and we decided to replicate that. She did a smoky eye shadow look, and blended the colors very well. I loved the foundation she used, as well as the concealer. The whole process took about an hour and a half. The makeup looked amazing, and didn't even feel like it was "too much", as in, not cakey or heavy at all. I was really excited and looking forward to my appointment because I wanted to treat myself. I am 31 weeks pregnant and my baby shower is quickly approaching so I thought heck why not. I pictured myself after a long and tedious ten hour shift I would be able to relax and unwind for the afternoon. My appointment was for 4:45 pm I arrived at 4:20 pm. I checked in and the employee asked me what I wanted from the service I asked if I could have the steam and extractions for my facial. She asked me what I wanted to clean my face with which I was confused because I didn't know what the options were. I said I don't know what do you use witch hazel? She's stated "no I use a cleanser" I replied okay that's fine. Then I asked if vegan products were going to be used during my service because I prefer those products. Employee responded with "no". Which I was okay with as this was just a simple question and preference not a requirement in the service that I specifically needed. She stated she was waiting for her appointment that was running a little late and that she would attend me at my scheduled appointment time of 4:45. This was no problem to me considering it gave me time to go to micheals and look at some fun crafts! I returned promptly to the salon by 4:42 pm to ensure I didn't take up any of her time or keep her waiting. As I was sitting patiently waiting, anticipating my facial and really just the opportunity to do something to make me feel good something that would raise my self esteem it was quickly and abruptly shattered. She approached me with her manager and stated she was unable to do my facial without a doctors note. I was completely and utterly caught off guard. I asked why do I need a doctors note? The employee stated she wasn't going to do my facial unless I had one. I still did not understand and the manager said it in case of an allergy. This left me flabbergasted I don't have allergies what do you mean. This continued in an unnecessary conversation back and forth stating that the esthetician did not feel comfortable providing a service because of the possibility of an allergy. I replied repeatedly that I don't have allergies to anything why is this being used as a concern all of a sudden. The manager replied it was because I stated I wanted vegan products. In which I replied I asked if vegan products are used it's my preference however, it's not because due to allergies. The esthetician walked away from the conversation and actually left for the day. The manager and I continued talking about why my service was being denied. She stated that employees have the right to decline a client. However, it didn't sit well with me I didn't understand what reason that would be considering the employee said it was because I needed a doctors note. At this point I was very unhappy my appointment was cancelled for a reason I did not understand. I continued speaking to the manager trying to understand the reasoning of this cancellation. I felt like I was being discriminated. Now my question was what am I being turned down for is it because I'm pregnant? Or is it because I requested vegan products? I simply didn't understand. During my consultation with the esthetician everything was fine. So why this sudden turn to cancelling my appointment and why make me come back thinking I was Ganna be attended to then not be. The manager came back with a 20 percent off my next service. I asked is this a one time thing that the employee is unwilling to attended me or is this going to be permanent? Because I understand we are human sometimes we have bad days and maybe this was the case but if I make another appointment will I also be denied? The manager was unable to answer the question. Then she called another manager and we basically had the same conversation all over again. She ended with saying maybe it was a misunderstanding and she would speak with the employee. read more

However, the truth stands that when it comes to drugstore brands, this particular store isn't cutting it for me. I'm a Cover Girl lover and they hardly had anything around. What gives? If you're looking for good deals, a salon, or in general more expensive-looking make-up, though, you're in luck. There's that tenfold. Please be aware, though, that it's survival of the fittest. Not only was the girl clueless as to what to recommend me for my hair but she didn't even attempt to get me another better informed person. They also, strangely enough, ran out of bags!!! Customer service was nonexistent, from the mainly clueless black-clad employees wandering the empty isles to the lone cashier who was moving in slo mo. No thank you.
