Long story short- my hairdresser fried my hair and I was desperate. I go to Ulta and am instantly directed to the hair section where i meet a wonderful girl named Emma, she took the time to introduce me to multiple products and listen to what happened to my hair. I bought a trial kit of the Bond Building hair repair and i felt results after the first wash! Thank you Emma!! You are a life saver! Not to mention checkout was super smooth and easy, Desi was my cashier and she was super sweet and held a good conversation:) This location has some amazing customer service and I will be returning soon! Yay for Dekalb Ulta....I was driving to Geneva every time I had to get my makeup. I use Napoleon products and Dermatological for my face wash so this is certainly a great thing for me. The price can be high but come on people this is ULTA not a drug store...if you dont want to spend the money then go somewhere else. You get great quality for the price you are paying for...the proof is in the product. Plus if you feel as though the product is not for you after buying it then you can simply return it. Just make sure its more than 80% there or they wont take it. So basically you cant try to use it to your advantage and expect to get your money back. This specific store is pretty nice, spacious and lots of product on the shelves. I do understand how one of the other reviews states that someone was following them around as if they were about to steal something though because I certainly felt that way as well....maybe it was because the last time I was in was about the same time the holidays were going on and being a new store and all maybe they were more paranoid...I didn't feel the eyes following me today. I like to ask about new products that I want to try out sometime and its really a hit or miss, sometimes you get someone who knows about the product and sometimes not. If they cant sell the item I usually just end of taking a picture of it and reviewing it online myself later. I guess it saves me money that way. I love the points system with my Ulta card!! I can not recommend this Ulta enough - and I'm admittedly a spoiled brat about my hair. I started going to this salon in a pinch when I needed a blow out for an event and my normal salon that I'd been going to for 8 years couldn't fit me in. That was 5 months ago and I haven't gone back to my old salon since! And returned to Ulta many times. They have a group of great stylists so if one is not available there are options. My color is fabulous! My cut is perfect every time. But most of all is the very chill happy vibe. Such great customer service and I was apprehensive I admit. I shop at Ulta but hadn't considered the salon. I'm glad for the happy accident that landed me there. It's clean. Bright. Friendly and I only have good things to say. I have really long, thick, bleached hair. I had a rough few days and wound up with a large knot in the back of my head that was untamable. I called and asked if there was any way somebody can brush it out.. and Jenny spent 2 brutal hours on it. I was so scared I would have to shave my head. Amazing customer service indeed. She and another girl (forget her name) were the sweetest and so beyond helpful. They were patient, nonjudgmental, and beyond knowledgeable. Mackenzie took the time to not only show me a variety of foundations (which was brought up in conversation) , but color match me and do my makeup with the foundation I chose! Gave me tips on contouring my face, and on which contour palettes are good! I also loved that all of the products she was suggesting were totally affordable ! This is one of the best stocked ULTA locations that I have visited. They offer many products I've had trouble finding in other locations, such as the Korean brand Skinfood. Service here is pretty friendly and someone usually offers to help soon after walking in. I would rate negative star if I could. Got a coupon in the mail for $55 for a single color and a cut. It excluded master level stylists. I did not realize that I was going to get someone who had no clue what they were doing. I arrived with a picture of the color I wanted as well as two for the cut. Upon picking out a color, I was informed that they were out of the one I wanted. The stylist attempted to make it by mixing other colors using my input(why she thought I was qualified to help with that I'll never know). When she said she thought the options we picked would work I trusted her because I knew I showed her a picture. After she was done I realized my hair was way too red and not brown at all. I told her that and instead of apologizing and offering a solution she proceeded to hold the swatches up to my head and explaining that "it wasn't that far off from what I PICKED. After some discussion she attempted to offer a solution and after nearly fifteen minutes she had to seek out the help of a more experienced stylist who thankfully offered a helpful solution. She also had to help with my haircut as my current stylist had messed it up. And then she had the nerve to ask the other stylist how much she should charge me right in front of me. After the second color application (did I mention it took her over an hour I apply color both times?), she then went to blow dry my hair. She asked how I wanted it styled and I specifically asked her not to put any products in because I was going home and going straight to bed. She proceeded to put no less than six products in my hair which is now greasy and heavy. They weren't even good products. She then told me about the products as if I would be able to purchase them. I should have mentioned that my appointment began at five and by the time she was ready to blow dry it was 9:30. The store was closed and the other staff had turned most of the lights off. How was I going to shop for products? After she was done blow drying my hair I had to ask her if she would be kind enough to cut my bangs and do my face framing even though I specifically stressed how I wanted this done, so I thought she would have made a point to remember. Then after she cut my bangs and the framing one side I had to ask her if she would be so kind as I even it out by framing the other side. After five hours of trouble, I left with a haircut that was less than spectacular (my bangs are still not right) and a color that was at best, close to what I asked for which is comparable to something I get from a box color doing it myself. Not only was I never apologized to (why would I, my stylist made it quite clear that she thought I was to blame for selecting the wrong two colors to mix together, even though it as obvious that she had the ratio off), but I was asked if I wanted to rebook, asked if I wanted to leave a tip, and not offered a discount. I know that I booked with a coupon, but honestly I spent five hours in the store when it should have only taken two. I am disappointed in Ulta for putting someone so unprepared on the floor and I am unhappy with the entries situation. If there was a manager on duty, why did they not come over and ask if they could help? Awful experience and I am never going back again. Probably not even to shop. read more

I visited to get my eyebrows done, big mistake and I surely will not make that mistake again. The eyebrow lady was on lunch and I was told she would be "right back", then I was told "10-15 minutes". While I waited another customer came up and asked an associate if their was anyone able to help her, I thought it was rude but hey not my monkey, not my problem. Honestly their wasn't anyone but a hair stylist there. After 25 minutes I finally was seated to get my brows done, then the "brow lady" decided to help someone else "for just a sec". I finally got my brows done, nothing really special but I said thanks, paid, and gave a tip. For $21 I could have gone to a nail salon and got my nails painted and eyebrows done but silly me for trusting Ulta. While I was waiting in line 2 ladies cut me and the cashiers just looked at me. I'm a quiet person so maybe I should have spoken up but they could have at least said something. I will continue to shop at Ulta but not at this one. By the time I walked out I was teary eyed and my roommate had to calm me down. Never again. read more

I have a hard time matching my foundation and always ask for help so I buy the right one. Every person that helps seems genuinely annoyed I'm asking for help. They're rude and I feel rushed out I've had to return my most recent foundation twice. I'm just really disappointed, I probably won't be going anymore just to avoid feeling bad. read more

Today I was in the store definitely feeling under the weather with sweatpants and a hoodie on and I experienced less than satisfactory customer service. I went to purchase shampoo and conditioner. After waiting in line for a few seconds a manager on duty went up to assist the cashier she seemed less than excited to ring or overall atleast content with being at work. Now first when I got in line they told me the specific flavor (scent) of shampoo product was not the bogo 50 so i went back and got back in line picked the right ones that I knew for sure was above the promotional sticker. When I got back in line the cashier instead was going to ring me out she was pleasant but told me My item was not on sale. So we went back and looked together. The item was in the right place but the item was not on sale longer but they offered to still give me bogo 50. This was great but my problem is as I going to pay the manager came back to ring me out but decided to help the manager who shift was over whine was buying a product at the same time. As a result because manager failed to even press credit on the screen the cashier just decided to give me my receipt and thank me for my time instead. As a current retail manager and someone whose been working in retail for 5 years. You help the customer first. It's a shame that you see more cashiers/sales associate doing better jobs with customers than the managers. Overall their attitudes at this particular store is not friendly at all. read more

I am rating the SALON, not the store. Every time I go in to go shopping all the staff is fairly friendly and helpful and I don't have any problems. Getting my hair done is a different story. My stylist was very young and seemed to have no idea what she was doing. She had an attitude problem from the start. She was literally complaining about my hair, telling me how horrible my ends were, making faces at the fallout that I had when she was washing my hair and making comments like "JEEZ, you're shedding like crazy..". When I was in the chair getting my cut and color done, she kept dropping combs and clips on the floor, and then PUTTING THEM BACK IN MY HAIR after they had been on the floor. No cleaning, no new comb, just straight up dropping them on the floor and putting them back in my hair. She used weird cutting techniques that I asked her to please stop doing because I wasn't comfortable with it (like undercutting portions of my hair super short "so I would have volume") and she just said "Trust me, I do this on everyone, it'll look awesome." She also kept wandering away without telling me where she was going, then would come back like 5 minutes later and continue cutting my hair with no explanation as to where she just went or why. My cut and color took so long that by the time she was done, it was 9:30, the store was closing, and they were rushing me out the door. I had no time to do any shopping or anything. I paid a lot for a shitty cut and a splotchy color glaze (almost $80 I want to say?) when I could have just paid $100 and gone to a real salon where I would have gotten great service, a good cut, and perfect color. If you go here you will get inexperienced stylists with poor techniques and attitude problems. I will never ever go to an Ulta salon ever again. read more

My friend and I walked in at 5:00 pm on a Sunday, just going in for some mascara, (of a brand that we always buy). And when we walk through the doors there is about 5 associates standing in a group talking and laughing and started to break up once we walked in. We walked over to the mascara we wanted and one of the girls from the group asked us "do you need help finding anything" we replied saying no thank you. After we pick up our mascara, we wanted to look around the store, we start walking over to the other side of the store and another girl walks up to us and asks if we need any help, we reply no thanks we're just looking around; 5 min go by and one of the associates that had already asked us if we needed any help, asks us if we need help finding something, we say no we're finding everything ok thanks. (At this point it's getting a little annoying, we've been asked 3 times and it's only been less than 10 min in the store!) we look at some skin care and the same associate asks us again! (Do they think we're stealing or something?) we walk back over to the prestige side and again we are asked by another lady stocking the shelves! We were so fed up with being hovered over, in the whole 15 min we were there, we couldn't even look around! I love the products there but it's so hard to shop. read more
