This review is based on my experience with Ulta Beauty. I went in for two makeup appointments with Jerson who's an "absolute 10" in my book. I was extremely happy with my makeup for my daughter. For the Ulta store feedback The manager had a chip on her shoulder from the moment I arrived a little earlier for my appointment. I also don't understand why they have a no tip policy. I felt the need to tip someone who I felt deserved it. I truly don't understand the logic behind no tips and maybe you should post a sign in the store. I recently visited Ulta in Commack and had a negative experience with the staff. I recently was in for a blow out with one of the stylists, who was not the issue. I have always been in the mindset that the stylists I see are courteous and do best for me when I visit. I have never been harassed about upsell services and generally receive guidance about my styles. HOWEVER, the salon manager or general manager was possibly the rudest person I have encountered in some time especially in this type of work environment. She was berating the staff to clean, which again is a HAIR SALON. Cutting hair means it's on the floor, using brushes and equipment means it's out at their stands. Every time I have been at this Salon for the past 5 years, even during the fallout of covid, they have been busy or understaff (like most work places these days, no one wants to work and this I could only assume is no exception). The fact that she was expecting her staff to clean while customers were in chairs, the tone and attitude towards her staff, and clearly not helping her staff with what she deemed as busy, really aggravated me as a I sat there and listened and watched this unfold. Getting my hair done is a form of therapy and this entire situation I witnessed ruined my experience. Ulta marketing is always about the guest's best interest, but that also comes with the right employees in the right roles. I think about the responsibilities I have with my current employer and how attitudes and beratement would not be tolerated in that manner. For such a major beauty supplier one would think they would be better. I have had to return 2 items on two different visits and since I live 30 miles away, I won't be buying there again. Both times I had to return a product was because it was dried out. The last item was NYX primer and it was almost hardened. The point is that the items have been on the shelf way to long, if a beauty product is dried out, it's VERY old! On the plus side, they are good about returns! read more

This store is always a mess. There are always boxes of inventory all over the place so it's not easy to walk around the store and shop comfortably. There's always some employee asking if they can help you when you know they don't have your best interest in mind. Because we all know that they make a commission if they're able to convince you to sell a product so that when you're at the cashier you can tell them their name so that they get that money. I absolutely hate the store. I've gone to the salon a few times can't say I would recommend any of the stylus I've been to but I can definitely say to stay away from Allison. She overcharged for ALL services. She did butchered the haircut. She is unethical and a terrible stylist. The only stylist I loved no longer works there. read more

It took me forever to find a place that does my hair the way I like it. My friend told me she got her hair done here over a year ago, I tried it and never looked back. I always go to Angelica. She's trendy, knowledgeable, bubbly and listens to everything you want. She has suggestions but it never over bearing. She makes every experience I have here great. She also will recommend new products if I need because I am a moderately experienced beauty shopper, but I definitely need suggestions. Fantastic staff and salon. I highly recomend Ulta. This salon salvaged a mess of an updo done for me at Ruby Salon the day of my friend's wedding. The staff was great, fit me in, and truly did beautiful work on my hair. I cannot express how much I appreciate it. The day of my friend's wedding I went to a salon down the road (Ruby Salon - do not go there!). I asked for a simple bun with a braid. The woman said she could do it and then proceeded to rip and tangle my hair for an hour plus while blatantly trying to figure out how to do an updo for the first time. She then told me my hair was too thin for any braids to be included and left me with the sort of bun I would put my hair in before doing the laundry- for $70! Do not go to Ruby Salon! Ulta was luckily able to fit me in immediately after I left Ruby Salon. I had never been there before and had such a great experience I will be sure to come back. They did a complete 180 on my hair. It looked fantastic. I highly recommend Ulta and their staff. They're honest, hardworking, creative and kind. Uñta Hair Salon has changed so much. It's been three years. Had an appointment with Terry. Got there in time was greeted by a very unfriendly Terry. Then she says go have a seat. She points to a chair that is full of recently cut hair. The floor has hair all over it and the work station has hair on the brushes combs and even hanging strands from the drawer. It was very dirty so I asked if they could clean it prior to sitting. Two ladies including Terry cleaned up By using the blow dryer to blow the hairs away but blew them to other parts of the floor. The work station has not been cleaned. Then we talk about highlight. Half head or full head. Half head was 25 fouls. No more. I asked for more. She didn't say there is an up charge or I will have to charge you more for what you want. She was stuck in 25 fouls Strangest thing. I basically said NeverMind and left. She looked shocked. Awful experience and awful service. Def corporate needs to take. A look at this hair salon. Feel like store must also be upset that they blew hair all over instead of actually cleaning the area. UNPROFESSIONAL SALON - DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME. I previously had a good experience here, but I will not be going back!! When I arrived for my appointment, not a single stylist was in the store! A few minutes after my arrival, another customer came in with the same appointment time as mine. Then my stylist walked in, flustered and annoyed. Rather than explain the problem to me, she had a salesperson-turned-shampoo-girl try to keep me in the shampoo area with an unwanted "free" extended conditioning treatment while she started working on the other customer. After the shampoo, she tried to make me sit with my head over the sink for at least 10 minutes. When I said I was uncomfortable she finally took me to a chair from where I saw MY stylist starting the other customer's dye job. She then passed it off to the shampoo girl to continue, and she started cutting my hair. If my hair hadn't been wet, I would have left at that point, but they tried to hide their dilemma and have one stylist work on 2 customers at the same time. I got a bad haircut that I had to get fixed at another place, and the other customer got her color done by a shampoo girl getting verbal instructions from my stylist who tried to instruct her while cutting my hair. She called the shampoo girl her assistant, but the shampoo girl herself told me she was a store salesperson and had only started shampooing 2 months prior. My stylist also said her "assistant" can blow-dry, but I said no. I feel sorry for the other customer too who probably paid a lot for her color only to have it done by an inexperienced shampoo girl. Finally, to add insult to injury, my stylist told me I should have called the store instead of booking my appointment online!! When I booked, I paid a premium for my cut because I requested this particular stylist. It was a waste of money and time and very disappointing to get this kind of treatment. NEVER AGAIN. read more

A massive, MASSIVE thank you to Helen the manager of the Ulta Salon for fixing a color job I wasn't happy about done by another team member. Not only did she spend 4 hours color correcting the mistakes made, her staff members Jaime and Christian pitched in to help finish the job. The color Jaime mixed up for me turned out beautiful and the blow out Christian helped finish was outstanding! Plus, after sitting for 5+ hrs in a chair the Christian/Helen combo had me in tears they were so funny to talk to! This is what amazing costumer service and teamwork looks like to me. Went into Ulta as I needed a last minute make up application for a military ball. I was only booking 5 days out and all appointments were booked. However, to my surprise, Kat Ventura, the skin therapist esthetician was kind enough to volunteer to come in early and do my make up...WOW!!. I put all my faith into her and booked her time. Needless to say, her make up application was flawless! While I was there, Kat reviewed all of the facial therapies that are offered at Ulta. I explained I have a lot of allergies to products and Kat reviewed the organic products that she would use. I took the leap of faith again and ended up having a facial. It was absolutely amazing. The products did not affect my skin and Kat took her time explaining each step. I would also like to point out that she is trained in Oncology. Kat understands the skin reacts differently when going through cancer treatment as well as after treatment. I cannot say enough about Kat. Please consider at least a consultation with Kat at Ulta Commack....she is a doll! read more

I love Ulta! It's the the Home Depot for women and beauty lovers! Great location, big store. A few employees came by and asked me if I needed any help. Bring your Ulta coupons and look at the sale/clearance section too! They have a salon but I've never used it. Also have a Benefit section which includes a brow bar which I have also never used. I do know the appointments get booked up quickly though. Everything you need in a beauty lovers paradise! More low key than Sephora and you don't have to trek to a mall either. I had my prom in June and as it has taken me a while to write this review, I did want to bring it to attention so no one else makes a similar mistake to mine. A lot of places were booked for make up appointments and I was thrilled when I found one to be available at Ulta. I scheduled it for the day of prom a few hours ahead of time as I planned to get hair/make up done and made sure to plan accordingly. Well first off let me say Christian (hair stylist) was INCREDIBLE and I loved my hair so so much, which I think is what saved me from tears after seeing my make up. I showed the woman doing my make up the photo inserted from the hudabeauty Instagram page - now I don't expect to look JUST like the photo of course - but I'd at least like to resemble it after asking multiple times if the woman knew how to do a cut crease and that specific look properly. She agreed and said everything was doable for her, and in the time frame we had as well. She went over the time frame given which in end made me scramble and rush to get to the reception on time, as well as the fact I look absolutely nothing like the photo I showed her, make up was un-blended looking on my cheek and my eye shadow and liner was far from even and the wing was not even sharp. It was so expensive to get done for amateur work, I've done my own make up much better and it costed nothing. I was very let down to pay someone to get it done professionally and have it come out worse than if I were to do my own. I would definitely come back specifically for Christian as he was incredible and my hair was beautiful and lasted a long time, it was so unique and intricate. I tried this salon in late January for a last minute haircut before an interview. I had Jaime and she did great work. Cleaned up my hair, but kept it how I wanted. I saw Jaime at least one more time after that. We made an appointment for me to come back in a few weeks to keep up with it, which was fine. When I got to my appointment, in early April, I found out that somehow I had been booked with Angelica. I was a little nervous since I had already had two good experiences with Jaime and did not really want to try a new person. We talked about what I wanted, where I was with my hair, etc. Everything was going well, we were making the typical salon small talk. I made an offhand comment about how my hair grows fast. This is where things went bad. About halfway through the cut, she asks me, "Your hair grows fast, right?" So I confirmed that yes, it grows fairly fast. I'm thinking she's coming from more of a styling angle. Then she asks me again. And a third time. I knew something was up at this point. I also knew when the other stylist came over and said, "There's a lot of hair over here!" I got really quiet, finished the cut, paid, and walked out. I had walked in saying that I wanted bangs and something a little new. My hair was about mid-upper back, layered, just growing out and looking for something nice for spring/summer. I walked out with hair above my shoulders, a bang line that is uneven and far too wide, hair that was thicker on one side and thinner on the other, and just chopped up. I cried when I got home. There was nothing I could do to salvage it other than let it grow. I got it blown out at a Drybar near my office, and even that stylist said it looked like she slipped and just missed half my hair. The photo I've posted was taken today after growing it out for over a month and getting it fixed up a bit. This was how chopped up it was. My "bangs" are uneven to the point where if I pull my hair back, it looks like I was given a bowl cut. tl;dr -- Jaime is amazing, beware of Angelica read more

Had my hair cut on Saturday by Amy. She listened and did as we had discussed. I liked that she sat me in her chair prior to me getting washed and we talked about my hair, the style I wanted to achieve and any concerns I had. I had never gone to her before so those few minutes set the tone that she was 'listening'. The end result was a good haircut and it wasn't highway robbery. $42 is a fair price for a seasoned stylist who has been cutting hair for a long time. read more

If you are a woman in your mid 50's and would like to feel absolutely awful head on down to this Ulta location. I was in the store for about 15 minutes or so and was not approached by 1 employee. The store had about 3 shoppers including myself. I was shopping to replace my makeup for the season and spend approximately $500-$800. I continued to look for a shade/brand of foundation while a mid to upper 20 year old young lady walked in to purchase a lipstick. She was immediately greeted by one of the 4 employees sitting and chatting about their Halloween weekend and social media. She was also looking for a tissue to clean up the sample she had just used. Prior to that I had walked the entire store to find 1- just 1- station that had a box that actually had tissues in it. All of the other boxes I saw( about 4) were empty. During this time where there are people looking for employment that are really looking to work instead of socialize while they get paid the fact that there were 4 employees chatting in a circle choosing who was worthy for them to cut their conversation short is quite ridiculous! It's great to know that Ulta is doing so great that they can pay their salaries so they can have some social time instead of actually doing what they are getting paid for! read more

I was very lucky that they took me for a last moment appointment and I think it's only because it was the day after Christmas that they had availability. I was greeted very warmly which I love. The manager, Helen, was very nice and professional and was generous with praise for her stylist, but in a humble manner. Amanda did my touch up and she matched my shade perfectly and gave me such a great blowout. I was originally going to the Ulta Salon in Huntington Station but I like Commack better now. I'm looking forward to my relationship with this salon and I'll update in a few weeks after I get my highlights. I have a feeling I'm going to be very happy and I'm excited. read more

Worst. I can't believe there aren't more bad reviews on this place. I would rather drive out of my way to get to Sephora in Lake Grove than ever set foot in this place. They are always out of stock (also, they don't give samples of every product like Sephora and other retailers can). I have never been there without being unable to find a least one thing I came for - and all the employees say is that inventory gets delivered on Thursday and you can come back then to see if it's in (to waste more of your time). Besides that, nearly all of the women on the floor are useless. If you want help, you'll more than likely have to ask for it yourself - and don't expect them to be happy you bothered them. You should expect to see employees doing their own makeup and ignoring all customers around them. Do yourself a favor and find a place where the employees aren't completely incompetent and actually act like they want to be there. read more

This is my second time getting my haircut at Ulta in Commack and just like the first time, I loved the results. Since my hair is so extremely thick I am terrible with keeping up with my trims. Back in October a girl named Jamie cut my hair, she was super nice and friendly, we talked the entire time she worked on me, I loved the cut and style she gave me and decided I'd definitely be back, she gave me a card with an appointment for sometime in April. Before I knew it April was here and it was time for my next appointment, my schedule at work is always changing so I rescheduled online to go in. (The online booking was great!) I went in for my appointment yesterday and met with a woman named Terri. She was great, she sat me down in the back room and discussed all my hair and scalp concerns and gave me some recommendations for changes to my hair care routine. I was considering getting a certain treatment and wasn't sure if it was right for me. She took a good look at my hair and scalp, explained the treatment, etc. She didn't try to upsell me. We decided I would try some new shampoo and if I changed my mind I could come back for the treatment. Throughout the haircut she kept checking in on how short I wanted to go, where I wanted my angles to start, where I wanted my layers to start, if she was hurting me (I have extremely thick hair, so she did have to brush a little hard to get through some tangles - but no she wasn't hurting me!) She had all the other stylist come over and feel how thick my hair was because she couldn't believe it lol. The blow out was great, my hair felt so nice and soft. She checked my hair from multiple angles before telling me I was done. I was super impressed with the time she took with me, and what a great job she did. The store itself is wonderful - more nail polish colors and brands than I realized ever existed. Plus they mix in high end cosmetics (bare essentials, Stila) with drugstore makeup (Maybelline, Rimmel). They're almost always having a promotion that involves some amazing deal. And if you get the circular, there's usually a coupon that gives you $3-$5 off your purchase. The cashiers can be a little oblivious sometimes, but I never leave here without buying something. I got a facial here for the first time, and it was pretty good. Very relaxing, with a cosmetologist that knew what she was doing, asked some great questions, and made knowledgeable recommendations. She didn't pressure me into purchasing extras or products, which was nice. The only gripe I had was that people kept walking in and telling her she had company. Then she would actually leave and go say hi to her friend. Not very relaxing. Nonetheless, I'm willing to chalk this up to an isolated incident.
