There beauty salon is the worse salon I ever gone too! Very disorganized and very unreliable. One of stylists completely messed up my highlights and did not match what I was looking for at all. After all of that I had to go to another salon to get it fixed. There schedules are always disorganized. I came to this store for a specific item that I didn't feel like going to the mall for. When arrived I looked around for a while for my item but couldn't find it. I asked someone at the salon, located inside, where I would find it. She showed me the brand but I still couldn't find what I was looking for. I decided to wait on line to ask. When I approached, I asked about the product and she had to seach for it in the system. She told me they will have to order it and have it shipped to me. This is like any other Ulta store I have been to. There is a great selection between drugstore and prestige makeup and skincare brands, and a lot of haircare brands as well. They have better sales and perks than Sephora. That being said, I find Sephora is better organized and easier to shop in. Where Sephora has many sales people in each area to help you if needed, it's hard to find someone on the sales floor at Ulta, as they don't seem to be as well-staffed. The aisles can be a bit confusing too, i had a hard time figuring out what area was skincare for face and which was for body. I felt like some areas were disjointed and it just seems like things need to be rearranged. The prestige makeup brands have the most orderly area, as it should be since these brands are probably the store's biggest money maker. All in all Ulta has better deals, but Sephora has better organization and staffing which counts for a lot when you are looking to shop in store. This store is conveniently located by a Whole Foods and plenty of other restaurants and shops, if I'm in the area I'll shop at this Ulta, but I prefer to shop with Ulta online and wouldn't go out of my way to come here. 3/5 read more

Booked an appointment about a month in advance (actually on 12/22 as per my cell phone record). I was even given the stylist's name. Phoned Ulta the day before the appointment to confirm -- my appointment vanished! I was told that the stylist I whose name I had wasn't working that day. What a coincidence! Asked if I wanted to re-schedule? I said, "of course not! So that you can lose that appointment as well?" There was no level of caring about losing income (foils with cut) was astonishing. I guess they're all rich and don't need the money. Found a replacement stylist. I will not give them another chance as I'm too busy to keep following up to see if I still have an appointment. Spoke to the assistant mgr and she was rude about it - I'd like to be treated like my business to them matters. I wanted to know how this happened - somehow I was supposed to have some type of email, giving me a special code number for the appointment. I never received an email from them. When I told this assistant manager this, she said well no email means there was no appointment. I told her that as the manager, she should know who was doing the phone appointments because I gave her the exact exact date and time of my phone call making the appointment . I think they should be concerned if the over the phone appointments are not being entered into the computer properly. But obviously, it's of little concern to them. I don't have time to rebook appointments. When I make an appointment, I expect it to be honored. My expectation is that they should stand good for the mistake and offer me the ability to be able to come into the salon, at least the same day of which I had the appointment, as it was their mistake, not mine. read more

Nightmare @ Ulta salon I've a friend that is a MS @ an Ulta in SCAL who is amazing! She's knowledgeable, experienced, kind, and a friendly people person/colorist. So, she suggested seeking out a MS @ a local Ulta while in NJ so the formula could be easily acquired. This is what I did - ending up with Vincent "master stylist" (?) @ Clark, New Jersey Ulta salon. I could go on 4ever about what went wrong , but most importantly is how inept the management is there, as well as corporately . I found out (too late) his only prior experience was @ Supercuts & teaching Zumba (?) His ego was far greater than his experience. Refusing to comb/detangle my LONG hair before blow drying it resulted in damage SO severe I had to cut a foot off .He also was very rude and " pissy" when I decided against a cut or asked him any kind of question. Granted he's young and has never worked in a high salon, but his customer service skills are poor. The last straw was his unprofessional behavior I witnessed first hand him talking about me in front of his crew of female stylists when I went back to check out . There was only one cashier and 30 people in line. After spending three hours in the salon, I thought perhaps I could check out there? He begrudgingly allowed me to & commented on " how he'd never get to the gym" which is in the same strip mall" on time., or on how he had no time for me & what a pain in the ass I was. Honestly, after getting my hair colored for 30 years, which has always been a relaxing, pleasurable experience, I have NEVER been treated this way.I reached out to the manager Sarah thinking she might want know how a first time customer was treated via email,never heard back from her. It was then recommended to reach out to corporate . Someone left me a VM saying they'd "follow up" with an email but of course, that never happened . In my profession we're all held accountable that's what makes great educators why should it be different at any job?So the lesson to be learned is Ulta is not the only place to shop for beauty supplies there's Sephora & definitely NO place for a positive color experience. As my friends and family have said he's replaceable Ulta should know better- but it is only Ulta. read more

Carrie was an incredible esthetician! I highly recommend her. I went in for the first time today for the 90 Minute Ultimate Facial ( Microdermabrasion ) and it was an incredible and relaxing experience. She answered all my questions and left my skin looking even better than I hoped. She did not try to upsell me on anything and recommended new skincare ingredients to incorporate into my skincare to maintain the effect from the facial and balance my skin out. I am looking forward to seeing her again next month and for the long term positive effects my visits will have on my skin. read more

I have been waiting for Ulta to open in Clark for the longest time. This is the cleanest, most organized, and fully stocked Ulta I have ever set foot into. The employees are all so helpful, nice, and knowledgeable. You are sure to find what you're looking for, and then some! I go to Ulta for all my beauty needs, and although it is a bright pricey for certain things - you can always save with their sales. coupons or beauty rewards card. They also recently opened the Salon, which is located in the back of the store. Their prices are exceptionally reasonable considering my usual hair cut/color/style at my local salon runs $150+, and I don't always get what I ask for. But the woman, Lauren (or Laura?), who cut my hair at the Ulta Salon knew exactly how to conceptualize and cut my hair based off of what I asked for. As soon as I walked into Alta and Clark Commons The staff was so friendly and immediately greeted us asking us if we needed help with anything, my mom is looking for a particular product that they did not have at the store they offered some other recommendations and also told her where she could find it but most importantly we were not pushy they were not pushy for sales they weren't trying to get her to buy some thing else because there's a lot of stores that push sales and that's a huge pet peeve but I love how they ask you if you need help you ask them a question the answer it and then tell you if you need anything else don't hesitate to ask to come find them or ask anyone on the floor but what really caught my attention was Alyssa, I was looking for some thing and I have not been in the store for a while so I was a little lost for a second and Alyssa could immediately tell that and she came over to me and asked me if I needed help finding anything not only did she tell me where it was she brought me over to it and gave me a nice compliment on my sunglasses which I thought was very sweet and as I continue to look and shop around she came up to me and my mom and gave us each a sample of a cream and I thought that was such a sweet gesture because it's not like we bought anything from her all she did was show me where something was and to me that's the true definition of customer service and she really sets the bar I've never had someone just come up to me and hand me a sample just because and the fact that she also gave one to my mom as well was extremely sweet she was beyond professional she had a great professional look her hair was done nicely her makeup was done nicely, in my eyes Alyssa is a star employee read more

Customer service is the worst!!! Aubriana wants to act like a tough chic! Sticking her face in my face when asked her name. Guess she feels so secure in her position that she can basically be a bully. Return policy clearly states that if you have your receipt you can return it. Yet she wants to insist the policy is you have to give your number, email etc to return something otherwise she has no way of doing it!! So you're able to buy something without all of that but you can't return it WITH A RECEIPT. She said she doesn't have it posted! Then she needs to honor what she DOES have posted!! All I wanted was to return the item and get something else!! Now I STILL want my money back and will NEVER step foot in this Ulta in Clark NJ OR any other Ulta EVER AGAIN!!!!!!! My experience was nothing but great. I had questions about makeup and how to apply it and one particular employee was so kind and patient. She took her time with me almost spent about 25 minutes with me. She wasn't rushing and genuinely wanted to make sure I received what I was looking for. I went here for the first time today , and I had a good experience I met a friendly employee named Germaine. I'm not sure if that's how it's spelled, but that's how it was pronounced. She helped me find a couple different products, and didn't leave my side until my shopping was complete. I would give this place 5 stars, but they didn't have the one product I actually came in here to buy. That was the first aid beauty face wash. This review is for make up services at the salon only! I've never had my makeup done before. I usually do it myself however wanted to treat myself and my mom for a special party on a Friday night. I had my name up done by Belle, my mom was done by Ashely. They were bother extremely receptive to what we wanted and made sure we approved each step of the way. Belle was great at explaining why she wanted to go with one technique vs what I was asking and really knew how to work with different bone structures / eye sizes. Also because you're in the Ulta beauty store they have access to hundreds of brands and products if you want something specific. I do have to be honest though and say the make up look wasn't anything over the top, I probably could have done it myself BUT they did do a good job and it was nice to have glam. The pricing wasn't bad based on what I've heard most make up artists charge. My only complaint is that my appointment started 20 minutes late because their client before me ran over time. Otherwise I would definitely recommend if you're not too good with your own makeup or if you just don't want to be bothered doing it yourself. read more

I generally shop at Sephora but I don't like going to the mall. With that, I always wanted to shop at Ulta but was never willing to drive far for it. However, the few times I have shopped at Ulta prior to this location's opening, I haven't been happy in regards to their customer service. When this location opened, I was excited to have luxury and drugstore brands conveniently located near me. However, like the other Ultas I've been to, this location is no different. I haven't run into any issues with the store's cleanliness thankfully, but the customer service is beyond awful. If I could give 0 stars and still write a review, I would. I'm not sure how they go about hiring their salon staff but they must not put them through any type of screening to see what they are actually capable of doing. I went in on a Saturday to have my hair and makeup done for a wedding. Disaster. I brought pictures and was very specific about what I was looking for, especially for my makeup. I told her I was hoping for a light airbrushed finished. Nothing caked on, natural. I used those exact words. It started with her painting on layer upon layer of liquid concealer, while commenting on how oily my skin was. Sidenote: I actually have somewhat dry skin and you can see it in the picture I posted. Not only was my makeup comically caked on, it didn't even match my skin tone. I told the girl it didn't match and she kept telling me, "trust me, it will get better" the longer it sits on my skin. I'm a fair skinned person but my skin was actually white. As in, porcelain-doll white. I was a shade and a half from a mime. I asked her to fix it so her solution was to pile on some bronzer. Additionally, I asked for a pale shadow, clean looking eye (as seen in the picture I showed her, also posted. I somehow ended up with a smokey-looking-purple-shadowed-liquid-liner-filled mess. The liner was crooked and sloppy. In my photo, it appears as if I have acne-prone skin, which I don't. Just a terrible job. After the bad makeup job I shouldn't have expected my hair to come out any better. The hair she did for me was so poorly done it literally started to fall out on my drive home. In addition to the poor quality of service, I was there for entirely too long. I told her I needed to leave by a certain time to make the wedding by a but she worked sooooo slowly that I ended up being late. There was more than enough time allotted to complete both services. And on top of all that, she didn't smile once. She looked pained to be working. Waste of $100. Never again. Terrible. read more

This review is for makeup services only: Do not get your makeup done here if you're going to an event and want to look like you got your makeup professionally done. The makeup came out nothing like the picture I showed which is understandable, but I was actually so shocked at how bad it came out. The simple makeup I do for work is better than this and I feel I wasted time and money. I had to make multiple suggestions to the makeup artist and after a while I just gave up. No bottom liner, no bottom mascara, no lip liner, no eyeshadow under the brow, and the winged liner on the top was really off. I wish I had taken a picture but I had to rush and retouch it myself afterwards. read more

I am very pleased with the new store in Clark. It is very clean and has a friendly staff. The only downside with the Ulta retail chain is they don't provide you with a sample if you request it. I was given the excuse when I visited the Watchung branch and requested a sample of a 40 something dollar foundation that they don't provide samples because the have a points program. So for higher cost items I go to Sephora and request a sample and if it is worth the money I buy it from Sephora. I will continue to purchase at Ulta mostly for lower cost items and /or if I don't need to test a product that is a higher cost. read more

The place is really nice and I agree it's clean, organized, and well stocked. I recommend checking out their spa services. They've been having deals (25% off and now $10/off your first appt), so I decided to try and get a facial. I've always been hesitant because why spend so much money on such a small part of my face?! I'd rather invest in a full body massage or my hair or something. *ahem* ANYWAY, I went to their esthetician Evelyn and she was GREAT. I definitely recommend going to her. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE I was hoping that someone would help me find a foundation that would match my skin tone because I'm clueless when it comes to makeup. I asked a sales woman for help and she suggested a brand. Told me to sit in their try on station and applied 2 different colors on my face. While still attending me she left when another customer asked for help and kept walking back and forth and blatantly ignoring me while I'm just sitting there waiting for her to return. If you want your hair done "professionally" DO NOT GO HERE. I made an appt to get my hair curled for my courthouse wedding. I just wanted to be pampered and not have to do it myself. Well, I should have. Over the phone they quoted me $30 to get my hair curled. After the female "curled" my hair which was already falling out, I asked if she could start the curls a little higher and tease my hair to get some volume. She was not friendly at all, which took away from my excitement but that's besides the point. My hair came out OK but really my sister could've done a way better job and it wouldn't have fallen out so quickly. After I was done, I went to the register and after waiting some time, they slapped me with a $75 bill! I then asked to speak to someone and after waiting 15 or so minutes, the manager came out and said since she teased my hair it was an added amount of money. Almost 3 times the amount what?! I explained my displeasure and the fact that I really need to leave because now I will be late for my own wedding. She finally said she will adjust it to the price originally given to me, which took an additional 15 minutes because she had to go to the back of the store to do it. I was there for at least 30 minutes more dealing with this bill which completely made me late and stressed beyond belief! So displeased with this experience! read more

They started my makeup at 4:30 and made me wait for 2.5 hours even though I kept telling them that I had been waiting for a very long time. My makeup was extremely rushed and I ended up having to miss much of my high school's prom. Lindsey was supposed to do my makeup and she took an unnecessarily long time with the client before me when she knew I had been waiting for hours.
