Ulta is a large store that offers a variety of makeup, hair and skin products, fragrances, and a variety of other beauty products. Employees also assist with makeup application & hair services. Several patrons were getting hair serviced when I came into the store. I came to this location since the one I previously went to didn't have the item that I wanted. When I walked in no one greeted me or initially asked if I needed any assistance as I walked through the store. Someone finally asked if I needed assistance. She showed me the location of the second product that I was looking for. When I checked out, the cashier was friendly and helpful. She was very personable. She also inquired if I had signed up for the rewards program that allows you to get points for your purchases and get a gift for your birthday. read more

I wanted to get my makeup done for my engagement pictures. I made an appointment online 2 weeks ago and they sent me 12+ messages confirming it. I showed up and there was no one there, and I walked around for a while until an employee told me to wait at a counter that wasn't manned by anyone. I waited there for 5-10 minutes and someone came by and said my name wasn't even in the system, despite the 12 messages confirming my appointment. She said the person at the makeup counter got covid a week ago so it wasn't her fault she wasn't there. That's fine, but why did I get the confirmation messages? The lady was like it's managements fault about the messages and I can't blame the person with covid for not coming in. I never blamed anyone I was just asking about my appointment! If there's an employee shortage or a miscommunication I totally understand. but where's the apology or helpful attitude? I mean it's too late to do anything else and she didn't offer any other solution other than "it isn't my fault" which I never said it was, I simply showed up at the time and place I made the appointment. I visited today in search of new foundation. As a woman of color this can be difficult. I was using Too Faced previously and that wasn't a good fit for my skin. I have oily/combo skin. More so Oily. Chris offered to fit me and took his time trying many different shades. He then suggested the brand Bobbi Brown and honey !!!! The fit is so good I can't tell I'm wearing makeup ! It also has SPF in it for a added bonus. Chris treated me so kind and he gave a lot of professional advice. I really don't need a lot of coverage with my skin type. Less is more. I went there to shop for Revlon and Loreal hair color and Loreal tie match ush in fard a house, which is the lightest shade of pink. They did not have either of the hair color brands and we f lo ybd one blush in the back of shelf in the color needed. When I got home I found the safety wrap was not on the blusher and it was missing the applicator. I examined it carefully It did not appear to be used despite the fact it was missing the brush and safety seal. Ulta could do better in their ordering. It took me four attempts at getting employees there to help me. They walked off, got on phone, ignored me addressing them or maybe they did not hear me from three feet away. I do not know. The clerk I spoke with however was very polite, kind and looked for the products requested saying the store just did not carry these. This store may fail if they do not get into better situation. 1) Customers should not need to chase help down. 2) Products should not be opened prior to buying without buyer knowing. 3) Store should redesign layout so customers with allergies are not hit with a blast perfume upon entering. 4) Customers should be able to find Loreal products for hair there simply because they have a salon in-house. I am not upset. I just want them do better than they are currently. If they want I could work there free for a day and share my ideas as to how they could improve. read more

I recently went to this salon for the first time to get highlights. After I left, it was nearly impossible to get my hair to blend, as shown in the picture. I told the stylist Rachelle, that I wear my hair with a left part when she did the job. When I called the salon two weeks later, they said we have a 10-day policy for corrections. We can't do a correction after that. This policy is not written anywhere including on their pricing book, and the stylist never mentioned about a 10-day policy, even after I was charged $285 for this service. You can literally see the stripes in my hair, and the color was dumped in the middle front part of my hair and not even near the roots. I do not recommend the salon based on this bad experience. The manager, Kelsey, said I am sorry but it's our policy. Next time, you need to tell your customers the policy while you are charging them exorbitant prices. read more

I went into this Ulta to cash in a $50 gift card on some goodies. I just got a job where I'm planning events that will all be outside, so I was in need of a good BB cream with a high SPF. I decided to ask a staff member, which was a huge mistake. All I ask her to do is recommend a drug-store brand BB cream/light coverage foundation with a high SPF. She stands around pretending to figure out what to recommend me and then says, "Okay, let's have a conversation" and I already knew what she was trying to say without being too rude, which is why I HATE going to Ulta with no make-up on. My skin sucks. It's oily, dry, super breakout-ish, combination to say the least. She then proceeds to recommend $50-80 products that will "fix" my face. I am on a regimen to help my skin issues, I do not need recommendations on what to use and what not to. She completely did not do her job. I asked for a recommendation, she should have given me one. Not awkwardly tried to tell me my skin is garbage. She even told me about how important it is to wash your face because a boy slept over at her house the other night and she didn't wash her face......okay thank you. I just left my appointment with Nicole at Ulta and she is not only wonderful, but also did an amazing job! I wanted to do a fun color, but wanted something Maine experienced and she certainly is. She listened to what I wanted, offered suggestions, but most importantly gave me exactly what I wanted. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a great cosmetologist. The other stylist that was working was also very nice and a special shout out to the manager on duty too. Ok, this location gets two stars ONLY because everyone I met was nice to me in the store. I came in here with my girlfriend, and frankly don't know too much about beauty products, but I do know a good bit about good business practices. On Saturday, 12/09, we were in this store, and an assistant at the store recommended a medical-grade make up to my girlfriend. It worked pretty well and look good, in my super limited opinion. But one thing I saw was this SAME assistant take MULTIPLE people to the same section when they asked her for help on their unique skin care issues. No matter what it was, dry skin, oily skin, breakouts, dry spots, she would take them to the same cosmetic line. I noticed that the products averaged around $80 per tube, and I guess there is some commission in place for this assistant. It's just poor business practice to do this. People are coming to you for your "expert" advice on skin care products, and you only show them the most expensive ones. Once my girlfriend asked for another brand, she just pointed to another section in the store, and ignored us the rest of the time. Figure that people should know that your best health interests are not #1 on this store's priority list. read more

Ragghh. I love makeup. I love the cute, little packages it comes in, and sometimes I just stare at them and imagine how they will change my life for the better. Sometimes staring is all I can do..because it's so flipping expensive at Ulta. But I save up and reward myself on occasion because cute little makeup things might ONE DAY change everything. If you must go to a store full of makeup (and I'm a bit perplexed about some of the lamenting in some reviews about HOW much makeup there is - isn't that like writing a review of Advanced Auto Parts and stating the obvious --- that there were SO many auto parts? *Shock and awe*) then Ulta isn't so bad a place to go. Personally, I consider Sephora an assault on the senses. I love the concept and often buy things from their website, but I cannot and will not enter one of their actual stores. They are hot, they are always playing some irritating loud music, and they are entirely too saturated with too many different scents. I think it it is probably the ideal habitat for say, Hello Kitty, but for someone with migraine triggers - not so much. Ulta has a few advantages in my humble opinion: 1)not in a mall 2)the store is laid out in a more sensible way, and with wider variety as far as brand selection goes. If I want a fifteen dollar nail varnish and a Stila smudgepot I can pick one up at either, but if I want a two dollar eyeliner I can't get one of *those* at Sephora, and sometimes you need a two dollar, regular old, black eyeliner pencil 3)they have coupons, every single Sunday in the paper, and also easily found online - these things are important to the budget-conscious graduate student like myself and to most everyone in this economy read more

First, let me preface this by saying that I LOVE, and I do mean, LOVE, makeup. Ever seen that movie Confessions of a Shopaholic? Yes, that's me when I walk into Ulta. There are so many possibilities. So many options.... it's like a drug to me! Seriously though.... They have a great selection, and I love the fact that they have the 'drugstore' makeup, and the highend makeup/skincare as well. I can buy Herbal Essences or I can buy Alterna.... Mabelline or Bare Essentuals. You get the point. My favorite thing is the Ulta brand makeup. I used to shy away from it, I was an expensive makeup snob.....but now I just can't afford a $30 eyeliner. I must say, I love their eyeshadows, blushes, etc. and they are usually always on sale. Just about every other visit, because I have the Ulta rewards card, I get 5-10 bucks off my purchase, which is a nice bonus. The stores are well laid out, and the staff is somewhat friendly and helpful. The crossroads location is usually really busy, so I usually go to the one in Apex (Beaver Creek). So to recap.... Tons of Makeup (highed and lowend), Great selection of hair products, brushes, styling tools, great selection of perfumes and colognes, a salon.... While Ulta itself is a magical playland of cosmetics and other beauty products from try-it-out inexpensive to treat-yourself spendy, what bumps this one up to five stars for me is the salon, and stylist Lisa in particular. How cute is my new haircut? Even the clerk at my local bottle shop noticed I'd had my hair done! That's how cute. I didn't really know what I wanted for a hairstyle so I just let Lisa do her thing, and I ended up with a great layered bob that's easy to maintain and works very well with my hair type. If you're going for a haircut, ask for Lisa! I found the Ulta staff in general to be helpful but not hover-y; they were ready to assist when I needed help, yet managed not to make me feel like I was being stalked like some kind of cosmetics-shopping herbivore. I like their selection of products - few local stores carry the range of Butter London nail colours they have - and find the tester displays very helpful in choosing new makeup. Sephora might have a wider selection of upscale goods and fancier decor, but I find the service at Ulta to be more attentive and the wider range of prices gives me the chance to impulse buy a few things that catch my eye if I feel like it. Lucky for my wallet and my makeup cabinet that it's not any closer to me! read more

Love Ulta!!!! I went for a new hairdryer since mine died on me in the middle of blow drying my hair....of course. When else would that happen? Could it ever be a convenient time? I found the staff to be nice, the store was pretty well set-up and stocked. Yes, I have been in here. No, I am not a transvestite. Can we move on? My brain hurts even remembering this place. There is makeup. So. Much. Makeup. This place is everything that was wrong with the movie "Edward Scissorhands" (watch it again, I'll wait). That being said, the girl I was with in here seemed utterly thrilled at what they had from top to bottom, so apparently the selection is excellent (I would hope so). It's also ridiculously expensive. How expensive? Too expensive. What gives them the right to charge this much for a stupid lipstick. Honestly, girls, I think you'd be better off saving the money to buy the guys booze... You'll win their affections far more thoroughly and maybe even pocket some of the change. The service was pretty helpful, though somewhat begrudging. The store is what it is. There is a fantastic selection of all types of beauty products, ranging from high-end designer brands to drugstore products. I personally don't think the prices are as unreasonable as some people make them out to be. Anyway, my review is primarily for the salon. I've had two haircuts with Lisa, and she is wonderful. She is friendly, talented, and thorough. At both appointments she talked me through the styling process, gave me advice, and stopped after each step to make sure I wanted to proceed with what we had previously discussed. This Ulta location is a bit of a drive from my place, but I trust Lisa enough where I'm willing to drive there, despite there being other Ulta locations closer. read more

Nope. I thought this location is different, but it is the same as the one on Morrisville.... customer service was not the best. I felt invisible in the store. No one ask if I needed help or anything the whole 30 min I was there. However, if you know exactly what you need, then this place is good to go to. Otherwise, don't bother because they will not help you as much unless you're lucky. But the Mac and Clinique's employees are always friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, I don't use those products much. Overall, not the best customer service here, but it does have the selections I wanted, so I'll probably go just for those. read more

Poor Poor Customer Service I went to Ulta to do a quick exchange. I ran in the store, went over to the press powder and asked the person who was standing near with a name tag, a full face of foundation, eye brows neatly drawn on, and eye shadow looking in place if she could help me. When the person turned around, I realized it was a man and quickly corrected myself and I said excuse me sir, can you help me find this (I began to motion him to look a pic in my phone). Before I could show it to him he said, "oh we don't have it". I responded and said, "how do you know you don't know what I'm looking for". He then huffed very loudly, rolled his eyes and ask what is it and stated he worked for Lancôme. My reply was very firm, "never mind". I asked the cashier what was his name... Soooo, "Eddie" was the rude person in Ulta who does not want to service customers. News flash to Eddie, you work in customer service, that means your job is to service customers. I wasn't asking for the moon, I was only asking for help to find a product in the establishment where you work. If that's not your job, the appropriate thing to do is direct me to someone who can help. Also, stay home if you are having a bad day. You completed the application for this job and your employer hired you with the expectation for you to do your job in a professional manner. If you want to ruin a brand, not provide service or just want to be plain rude, do that with your own business establishment. As a customer who appreciates good customer service, I will drive an extra mile and pay extra dollars to have good customer service when I'm spending my money for products and services. I don't love makeup, have an obsession with looking good, or anything like that. But I do love Ulta for their selection of products, since all of the convenient/drug stores in the area decided to not carry what I need, even though they're basic items. The thing is-- it really is a bit on the expensive side. I'm wary about lending this AMAZING natural foot spray to others just because it's $9 per bottle (and it goes fast). I only go in when I really need something and have/am willing to spend the money on it. And hey, I don't think a square of Neutrogena Healthy Skin Blends REALLY costs $11, either. But the products last AND work, which really always outweighs the price tag. Of course, I love Ulta as well because of their salon. I can draw whatever I want for my hair, and the stylists will create exactly what I want, at a cheaper price than what most local places charge for a haircut (that is, if they're not chain). I have had my bouts with misfortune though. Every time I call in to schedule an appointment with a stylist, I always hear that he/she has moved on to a different position. But overall, the people are amazing and wonderfully friendly, they really do try to have the best relationship with their customers (this goes for all of the staff, too). The one con that I'm still getting used to is their remodeling. They're in the process of changing the store now, which makes things confusing to work with. Not all of the products are out on the shelves due to limited space, and unfortunately, that means some of the tried-and-true things that I love will have to wait. read more

Don't know if this is true for all Ultas, but this location treats their staff HORRIBLY. The bad reviews on this location make sense. Their employees are down-trodden. They come into this job excited to be working at one of their favorite stores, and within weeks theyve been beaten down emotionally. Ive seen it happen way too many times. The review that says "guess theyre waiting for their shift to end", they are. They want to get out of there asap so they can be happy again. Theyve been through at least 2 FULL new sets of managers in the past two years. Ive seen at least 3 head managers. Cashiers are always new because they can't hold on to anyone. It's sad. Stylists are told they're worthless unless they're meeting their number goals set by headquarters. They aren't running on the quality over quantity front like they need to be for a higher up salon like this. I know multiple people who have worked here, all their stories are the same. read more

My husband and I went to have a haircut for him. We met this Raven and she said she has 18 years experience. For a $35 dollars haircut we thought we will have the best cut for maybe 2-3 hours. After not even 5 minutes she was done. I looked down on the floor there was no hair. She even almost hurt my husband neck when she pushed the machine to take off the small hair. I said is that done. Ye she said. Let me know what else do you want me to do. She barely cut his hair, made my husband shirt wet for an hour and the service socks. If they are planning to cut hair for a cause don't dare to have your hair cut there at Friendly Shopping center. Just donate.
