I've been to this Ulta location while I've been meandering around Canton Crossing, but it's not my typical Ulta. However, yesterday I was in the Canton area and needed to pick up a very specific styling product, so I popped by. No one said boo to me when I entered the store. I made my way to the back where the hair styling products were housed. I wandered around a few aisles until I found what I was looking for, then took it to the checkout line. I was behind a few ppl but eventually was called to a register. Idk what was up with the cashier, but she whispered everything to me and I had to keep saying "WHUT???" to her loudly. I got an opportunity to visit the Ulta on Boston street and had a great experience. The staff was friendly and walked me through all I needed to know about their listed products. From the time you arrive you will find parking outside the establishment that will allow you easy access inside. Everything is clearly labeled But you do need any assistance You can find someone on the sales floor. With my experience I was walked around the store and asked what type of items I was looking for and then I got a short summary, if those products would be something I was interested adding to my current beauty routine. I usually don't write reviews but with the experience I had with ulta salon, I need say something. A little back story, I am a black woman with type 4 hair. I came in about two weeks ago for a TRIM. I wanted to blowout my hair and just get the ends. I get there and I'm first turned away because one of the other stylists there didn't do "textured" hair. Instead, she directs me to another stylist "Maya", who I'm told can do curly cuts. I come back an hour later and proceed to get my hair shampooed. She takes me to blow dry my hair, and for some reason I'm getting the feeling that she doesn't know what she's doing. She says she doesn't have the attachment for the blow drier so I'm like "okay?" And she proceeds to do this weird drying method that downs stretch my hair enough so it's very unevenly dried. She then tells me "yeah if you straighten your hair it's gonna be so short so I'm just gonna trim it like this" mind you, I'm not facing the mirror at this point. She then starts cutting my hair, and as she's finishing I get a quick glance in the mirror before she rushes me to wet my hair again. She styles my hair (I hated it) in a wash and go that I had to restyle a day later. I was at the salon from 4:15PM until 7:45PM. I look at my hair and it's soooo uneven. One side is a completely different length than the other side. I call ulta again for them to fix it. When I get there Darwin really saved my hair as much as he could. He straightened my hair to see the damage and when I tell you she CHOPPED MY HAIR UP. There was no side that was even. I wish I had a picture. I wanted to cry. I felt so ugly. She really messed me up! The thing that really angered me is the fact that she told the stylist she "didn't know what she was doing so she panicked and started chopping away". Darwin evened my hair out as much as he could be he ended up cutting so much off to get it at least a little bit more even. All in all I feel terrible my hair is so short now and I will never be going back to this place. Y'all need to get stylists that know how to do black hair. read more

I walk in the door and see a security guard at the door mind you the store is packed full of Caucasian women. Somehow the security guard decides to post up where I am shopping. Pick up my items and while waiting in the line I see suddenly she has moved. So you profiled me off me walking into the store. Needless to say I won't return here because of that. As a makeup artist this store is one of my holy grails. The service is okay only because they usually only have 1 cashier and the lines get long fast, but they have kind service/ greeting while taking care of you at the register. To say I'm both annoyed and disappointed is an understatement. "Kelly" the manager there was SO incredibly disrespectful it was UNBELIEVABLE. I am a respected, well educated and have NEVER been treated like this in an ulta ever. The lady at the register even said her most profuse apologies. Upon trying to return 2 items, the one was taken back with no problem, the other however (probably Bc it was a gift did not). Sydney is my stylist here and she is amazing. My color and cut are always amazing. She really understands my hair and makes great suggestions on what will look good with my hair and skin tone together. I get regular blow outs here also when I can. Sydney, Cynthia and Dina do great blowouts. Having an Ulta card and rewards points I get most of my beauty products here. The only thing I dislike about the store is when people spray a bunch of fragrance testers and those beepers that seem like they are going off forever. read more

Walked in and not one staff member greeted or acknowledged me. While looking for a product I could hear the employees all at the register laughing and engaging in personal conversation. I then heard the manager on duty yell from the brow station asking if all end of the night work had been completed. Not one beauty advisor offered to help me. I would highly suggest a training in customer service. Every customer should be greeted when they walk through the door and asked if he/she needs help or even suggest a product. No sense of leadership at all, product knowledge or customer service. read more

The sales associates are superb!!! However, I made an appointment for my son to get his haircut, only to then be told by the stylist that short cuts weren't her speciality. While I appreciate the honesty, I booked the appointment in advance, so a heads up or phone call would have been appreciated that the person who was scheduled to cut his hair wasn't apt to do so. read more

The awful part here is the salon. It's a random Ulta salon in Baltimore, so expectations aren't even high - but this is bad.   The hair is so-so, but the WORST part is the stylists / employees attitudes and hateful words for... apparently everyone, including each other. I've gone there 4 times -  It was close to my job then, so I kept trying when I should have gotten out fast.   After this past February, I was done.     The first visit was a weekday - I went in to ask about getting a cut.  The woman who came to the register had been gossiping with coworkers about another coworker - using some very "explicit" language - and didn't realize I was standing there at first.  She walked up with a terrible attitude, rolling her eyes as if they had lots of business and didn't care about mine... (because trash-talking some person named Melissa was more important?)   At the same time - the salon chairs were all empty.  I chalked this up to a bad day, said thanks, I'll come back - and I did.   The next time was a weekend - came for a scheduled appointment (wash/cut).  I didn't like how messy the shampoo area looked, but but other than that - just needed a cut and wasn't expecting the world.  I went in with 2 photos and a description and she got to work.  I tried to communicate during the cut, but in the end it was... mehh. The style left a lot to be desired.  I didn't know if I'd be back because you can get better haircuts for the price.   It's worth noting that the salon employee gossip was STILL going on - only this time they were TRASH-TALKING THEIR CLIENTS!!  BARF.  I left thinking "if this is what they say right in front of customers...."  It was some nasty stuff. For a long time, I went somewhere else in Ellicott and felt good about the hair and the salon.  Sadly, that salon closed because of an illness.  So I made an appointment back here thinking it would get the job done.  Got a confirmation text message when booking, and another one the day before the appointment.  I show up for my appointment.  Stylist isn't even there??? Booking went 'missing'?? No one had called, cancelled, rescheduled.... I showed them my two confirmations.... just got a big 'not our problem' attitude.  They could not have cared less that they left someone hanging.  Now that SHOULD have been it...  but no. Finally I tried one more time. (I know I know - but the location was good at the time and I went with a different hairdresser).  I scheduled a cut/dry.  WHY WHY WHY. I came out of there really lopsided in the back - same as another reviewer here.  And again with an earful of crazy gossip (now they all hate their manager plus someone from another outside salon)  which was more of their focus than actually doing a good cut/blow dry!  Was left with a big bill from another salon where they fixed it (worth it).  And where I've been going ever since.  Lesson learned - finally.   The times I've shopped here for products - it was fine.  They have a typical selection for Ulta.   Security/staff can be very weird - I agree with the other reviews - but whatever. I came here with my daughter so that she could purchase facial products. This location at Cat on Crossing, is well maintained. Although they didn't have the product thst she wanted, she was able to purchase a comparable item. The stores are laid out in similar fashion: when you enter the store the perfume is to the right, makeup/ facial products to the left, with hair and beauty supplies to left going towards the back and the in-store salon services are to the rear. If you become a member of their beauty program, you get a loyalty card and a free item on your birthday ( l got a full size Calvin Klein mascara with a value of $18 as one of my bday free perks) and a monthly circular mailed to you with at $3.50 off of a $10 pirchase. They have great deals on name brand makeup and hair care lines ( such as BOGO half off, 40 and 50% off of certain products, free items with a certain $ purchase of perfume (items l have gotten free during this promotion included a robe and a weekend bag). The sales associates here were pleasant and the checkout line was not a problem. Not sure of their return policy, but if l have to use it in the future, l will update that experience. read more

We were trying some thing out and a lady came up to us and yelled at us for trying some thing. we didn't know what to do so we said sorry and said OK we won't do it again, but then we think she told her coworkers about what happened because we all saw them crowding around us and almost following us around and they kept looking at us then talking then it made me and my friends feel very uncomfortable so we checked out and left but overall I'm disappointed in Ulta read more

If I could give zero stars I would I'm never ever ever going back to the salon in this Ulta Beauty again Jacob is a horrible Hairstylist to not know what an inverted Bob is or or a stocked Bob is when growing out of pixie cut is a piss poor Hairstylist in my opinion I don't care what level you are even if you're a brand new stylist, you should know what that haircut is when growing out of pixie, my hair is uneven when you were doing highlights, there are pieces of highlights, three of them in the back of my head I'm so dissatisfied now that my hair is growing out, and my hair is uneven all over and then when I wanted the back of my hair which was longer than the front of my hair and the sides of my hair, basically to be even out, he clipped the back of it with scissors so now I have a little pieces sticking out from underneath. It's just horrendous. I'm never ever stepping foot into that salon again I will be going into Alta beauty to get my products such as my makeup perfumes and hair products it's despicable that you have stylist working there. This is a tough review to write. I had a reasonably good experience at this location's overall but was a little shocked at the cost. Though everything was fine, and my stylist was courteous and efficient, my hair is fine (not fabulous) I was very surprised that my ticket was $250 before tip. It was twice what I normally pay at my regular salon. I did not request a price quote prior to the service, so it's on me, but having reviewed the menu at the time I booked my service, I was expecting $150-160. For the price I paid, I would expect... more wow factor... I left looking much like I do every day as opposed to that special, fresh from the salon hair I look forward to. I consider tipping mandatory, so a decent tip brought me really close to $300. I've paid that before but for pretty remarkable results. I will note, the salon was scrupulously clean, my stylist was courteous, pleasant, and technically savvy. On the retail side, the store was well stocked, clean, and briskly busy though not swamped. I was planning on buying gifts but the only person who had any interest in me was a vendor Rep from Juice Beauty (who was really good) and then a rather angry-looking, blond, 40-something manager who glared at me as I browsed fragrance and aggressively asked if everything was ok. *shrug* I decided to wait and buy elsewhere once I saw my salon ticket, the robe offering didn't offset my sense of being an imposition. I like ULTA, I don't mind paying for great hair, I just felt in this instance, the value wasn't there for me, nor did I feel I was valued as a customer. Ulta is the equivalent of an adult candy store! They carry a wide variety of beauty brands as well as fragrance. It is a convenient one stop shop that sells its own brand, drug store brands, and the major beauty brands carried at competitor stores like Sephora. When I walked into the store there was inventory everywhere. I kindly asked for assistance with buying four types of products. I was astonished that the testers were not cleansed with alcohol prior to the saleswoman placing the item on my skin and lips. This is a concern...... while assisting me, the saleswoman walked away as if to say, you're not spending enough.... that was incredibly rude and unprofessional. Please keep in mind that I monopolized a mere 2 minutes out of her 24 hour day. Another agitating factor is that the staff never gives samples or gifts unless requested, even when offered by the company in question. I truly wonder if the women take these items home..... Bottom line: great variety, horrible store maintenance, poor protection against ailments spread via testers (use alcohol!), and don't expect any treats regardless of what you spend. read more

I got to Ulta at 10 when they were supposed to open. There were two other women waiting for the store to open as well. Someone left the store around 10:10 and a staff person locked the door behind him. A patron asked when they would be open and was told that they were doing inventory and would open when they were done. The patrons suggested they put a sign on the door to inform customers. I decided to take a walk to target in hopes they would be open when I got back. 30 minutes later they were still closed and no sign on the door indicating when they would be open. I thought inventory was taken before or after store hours and if not they could have at least put a sign up informing customers that they store would be closed. read more

I really enjoyed the sales that were here. They had little samples for $2.00 or five for ten. This is a great way to try out new products. I also heard that they offer facials and esthetician services. I will have to spend a day here when I have some time. They have awesome products from A to Z. It reminds me of Sephora. read more

I love all that this store has to offer and the sales associates are so nice and friendly but the security guard is so incredibly aggressive. I looked at the morphe palettes and when I turned around he was 2 feet away from me. I felt so harassed and my personal space was so invaded. It feels so uncomfortable to walk in there and shop because he was following me around wherever I went. I left morphe and went to look at the hot tools. He followed me to that section. There were lots of other shoppers around but he only targeted me and followed me around. I have never felt so creeped out at a beauty store. Even after I bought the items, he was still staring me down. Beware the security guards. As a female, I felt so unsafe around him and like I was going to get attacked with his lack of respect for personal space. I am a dedicated shopper but because of this experience I will support shopping at Sephora more and will encourage others to avoid ulta and shop at the new Sephora in town as well. read more

The young lady had no idea how to process the transaction and couldn't find someone to help. Today I called to see about coming in to get my makeup done for a special event. I'd leave zero stars if I could. My issue with this location was not about their products (I've always been happy purchasing from Ulta stores) but the customer service at this location was appalling. I came in on my birthday (we stopped in before my birthday dinner) and my mother was gifting me a makeup brush of my choice. Note : my mother , sister and I are all African American women. Within minutes we noticed that we were being "watched" by their security man who would follow us from section to section and fixate his attention solely on us , despite there being other customers in the store. Brand new, sparkly Ulta. All Ultas I've ever been in have been quite similar, and all good. I love that it's half salon-quality high end products, but that you can also grab your drugstore faves. This Ulta is extra-big and very nicely organized. It's easy to get lost for hours in here, and I dare you to try to leave empty handed. There's a hair salon in the back and a Benefit Brow Bar that seems very popular. There were too many people waiting around when I was there, but they do waxing, plucking, extensions, and more. You can get a free brow service on your birthday! The store is well laid out, large, and clean. My only complaint is that the employees didn't seem too knowledgeable, but perhaps that's because they are new. I asked a group of sales girls who were standing in a circle chatting to recommend a blow dry heat-protectant spray to me. Most women could probably locate their fave quickly and explain why they like it. It's a pretty standard request I think. This girl did not seem to have a clue, so one of her colleagues recommended one for her to show me. When she lead me to the section to tell me about the product, she literally read the description off the back of the bottle to me. I can do that myself, thanks! I was looking for a personal recommendation (any brand!) that someone had a good experience with. Perhaps Ulta needs to give their employees more free products so they can make better recommendations! It's a small gripe, and good old internet was able to provide me with some good recommendations from my iPhone. Get on their mailing list. However, I am starting to see the light. I went to Ulta this because I ordered something online and didn't like it, I also wanted to see if they had anything for my unruly eye brows. I was probably staring clueless, per usual, and a girl asked if I needed help. She proceeded to tell me that she was the manager (or maybe just worked at) the eyebrow bar and told me all about their services, she even tested out a few items on me and I really liked one. I was totally not prepared to buy anything but I just had to because it looked so good, she did a great job showing me the way! This past week was my first time going to a Ulta in Baltimore. I stared around for a few minutes looking for assistance finding ABH cosmetics however once I started walking around the store and testing and searching for the items on my list, I began to get approached by multiple associates and being watched and followed as if they probably expected me to steal, ironically I make at least 4x their hourly salary. I also asked one associates where the perfume bottles for purchase were located, I've never been to a Ulta that didn't have the bottles sitting next to the sample bottles. She responded nasty "they're behind the counter because people steal" and they didn't even give me a bag for my stuff. I felt racially profiled, uncomfortable and pissed off when I left this store. I've spent so much money at Ulta over the years and this was the first time I've had a negative experience. I understand the Baltimore area has a lot more crime and theft than other parts of Maryland but to have a preconceived bias towards customers, especially YOUR OWN RACE is disgusting. Maybe if my face was beat and I had on different clothes, the staff would've been more hospitable. Train your staff to be better. I will be calling corporate to file a complaint. read more
