i have to go with karl on this one. i've always been pleased with my experiences with the nurse practitioners working in the same office, but I recently saw Dr. Kumar with an extremely stressful issue that was keeping me awake nights and amping my anxiety level to the point where i was having trouble functioning. I described all this when I went to see him, and he seemed to be half-listening, and didn't ask me a single question during my visits. He had some tests run and I called him after a few days for the results. Sounding mostly asleep and completely disinterested, he said they were only partially finished and ended the conversation with, "I'll call you when the tests are done. But If i forget, please call me." I've had one of the most stressful months of my life and there's a very distinct possibility you're just going to forget to call me and resolve it? I came here for a simple ear infection. The doctor didn't really talk to me, and when he did, his strong accent made it almost impossible to understand him. He usually just talked past me, to the nurse. When I did ask questions, he kind of half answered them as his attention was elsewhere. Eventually, he ended up having my ear cleaned in the office. However, he didn't really communicate what was going on and it left me really confused. The cleaning was also extremely messy and got my clothes soiled. I relocated to Austin 10 years ago and have not been able to find a primary doctor I feel comfortable with or doesn't rush me out the door. Dr Kumar at Austin Primary is super sweet and takes his time to listen. He is an older gentleman, he is old school, he reviews all the notes and questions his assistants before entered into my chart. He is soft spoken, gentle and just a nice guy. DR Kumar isn't "out of it" or "sleepy", he is just laid back and doing something weird that people are not used too, it's called listening and processing. He spends about 30-45 mins with you going over your concerns if needed and never looks at his watch. He always refills my medications without giving me a hard time and is happy to change up my meds if things are not working or just call something in if Im coming down with something. His staff is always on point with getting my referrals sent out for my annoying HMO. His main assistant is also awesome. For some reason, I can't remember her name right now... The rest of the staff is always extremely friendly and organized. I have been visiting them for about a year and have not had a bad experience yet. I specifically made sure they were part of my network when I switched insurance providers this year. They also have a lab center in the same office for convenience. They are extremely flexible with scheduling. I honestly can;t think of what else you would want My partner has started seeing him as her PCP too. read more

Dr. Kumar is one of the rare doctors that actually care about his patients. He is a very caring doctor that spends time with you, listens to your concerns, and makes it a point to help you out. Him & his staff work magic with my crazy health insuance and find coverage. I've been seeing Dr. Kumar a little over a year, he saved my life, I owe him greatly for that. He caught what 2 other doctors failed to do or even followup on. I'm not a fan of going to the doctors, and basically "brush off" most things. Dr. Kumar does have an accent but I understand him fine and he has been a big help to me. He has tried to help with samples to get me going on medications when available and his specialities in sleep disorders, lungs, and general care have been life changing for me. When I wanted to consider a change in my medication based on some recommendation and research, Dr. Kumar listened and made the changes immediately and I'm doing much better now. The staff is great and the wait time is short. The medical practitioners are great also so I don't mind seeing the ones in Dr. Kumar's office whenever he is out. I have also referred other family members and friends to Dr. Kumar! New patients need to call right away and scheduling the first appointment can take 1-2 weeks depending on the time of year. read more

Dr. Kumar is such a great primary care physician. He's extremely kind and considerate. The whole staff at Austin Primary Care has always provided exceptional care anytime I've had an appointment. Dr. Kumar clearly cares about the quality of his work and the well being of his patients. I've never been so impressed with my experience at a doctor's office, and I look forward to my appointments at this facility. He listens to my concerns and makes me feel like a priority during my appointment. Not a fan. He was really nice but didn't have the best bedside manner. As other reviewers said, he seemed very confused and out of it. My appt was at 430. On my way up the elevator I noticed a sign for a "cosmetic party" to be held in his (shared) office at 530. It seems as though when I got there, everyone was already in party mode. While I was trying to fill out new patient paperwork, 2 ladies showed up way early for the party. One of the guys behind the checkout window was talking to these ladies from well behind the check in desk to across the waiting room. Hearing their conversation about whether or not the lady needed more Botox in her lips was very distracting. One of the receptionists was equally loud talking telling stories about her dancing son. There's a window that closes for a reason...they opted to leave it open. Oh well. At least I didn't have to wait long. As for Dr Kumar, he seemed very confused and unclear with his instructions. When he first came in he left the exam room door wide open. Started asking me questions. I had to ask if I could close the door as I didn't want passers by hearing all my health issues. Unprofessional. Kind of mumbled a few things about needing a sleep study and a heart monitor. Then left. I asked him a question about the sleep study and he said "the girls will take care of it" and left. The nicest person was Mona?, the middle eastern girl who checked me out at the end. She was the sweetest lady! If it didn't mean I had to deal with the rest of the office staff and dr Kumar, I would go back just to see her. Thank you Mona! (I think that was your name). Geez, you people are picky. Dr. Kumar is a fine doctor with a sense of humor. He is soft-spoken, doesn't make me wait, and is up on the latest reports and technology. I know because I will mention something like stem cell technology or new drug therapies he always fills in the blanks. The office is efficient. Hey ya'll no such thing as a perfect doctor these days right? Dr Kumar is really cool you got to get to know your new primary care (doc) if it's your first visit . Some patients click with their primary care (doc) and some don't....don't let the facial expressions fool you everyone has their own demeanor. Dr Kumar does not look a bit confused or lost actually he looks like he's thinking hard but I'm aware he just has a lot of patients on his mind coz I'm not the only patient he has but I guarantee you he will get you to the right specialist if need be once your X-ray or blood results come through ...he also took care of my husband, son and sister with different medical concerns that shows how knowledgeable he is behind his defined face as a doctor so give it a second chance if you have reservations on him...he can be funny sometimes but doesn't rarely laugh but smiles lightly..,but he's good people for those of you who don't know him that well...we've known him for almost 4yrs and counting....:) So, when in doubt of anything with concerns of your medical visit feel free to ask the questions to your Primary Care/PA or Nurse Practitioner while you are still face to face with them for a peace of mind.... don't leave with an anchor hanging over your shoulder wondering this and that...feel free to express your concerns and feel good about it...I know it's easier said then done but it takes one to know one...we all have our imperfections...so kudos to imperfection you only live once...so start getting to know Dr Kumar and when you do he's your Doc....:) We the Johnsons would highly recommend him...Ciao! read more
