Shortly after the Q & A with the nurse, Dr. Z walked in, greeted me with a smile, a handshake and pleasantries. After a few more questions some squeezing, bending and pushing, voila!!!!... lateral epicondylitis, aka tennis elbow. Wait!!!!....Wha?!?!? I don't even play tennis. After conducting some research, studies show that trauma such as direct blows to the epicondyle (femur), a sudden forceful pull, or forceful extension cause more than half of these injuries. It has also been known that incorrectly playing tennis may cause early stages of tennis elbow as shock is received when mishitting the ball. Yeah, couldn't say what exactly caused this injury....have ya read my activity reviews?!?!?! Anyway, he gave me two options, one, a brace for several weeks and possibly physical therapy, or two, a shot of, I cut him off as I was not interested in a shot of anything, except, perhaps a tasty beverage. I digress. Not wanting to leave just yet, as I like to get my co-pays worth in, I brought up another issue I've been having. 'Come on, let's look at the x-rays', he says. Badabing badaboom, another specialist misdiagnosed me. Dr. Z wrote down some options to help with the other aliment and I was on my way. Came in with an elbow issue, walked out with a wrist brace and knowledge and helpful tips my Podiatrist didn't tell me about my foot. Kudos Dr. Z!!! The next day I called my primary to request she change yet another referral to Dr. Z. After all, his specializes in sports medicine and if you've read any of my non-food, or perhaps in even food reviews, I'm not a couch potato.

With me, I bought my medical records and all of the prescriptions I had been given in the past. When I presented this to Dr. Mauldin, he skimmed through what I had and said, "Well, what do you want me to do about it?" I told him that I didn't know, which is why I was there. He responded, "I'll give you some Flomax. I don't hand out pain medication, and if you want further treatment you'll need to find a urologist". Before I could respond, he made a bee line for the door and left. I waited for him to come back but he didn't. At this point, I gather my things and begin to leave. Dr. Mauldin is standing there with his staff chit chatting. As I go to depart, I'm given the bill. It says, "Office visit - $289". I looked up at Dr. Mauldin and said, "Isn't that a bit high when you spent only 2 minutes with me and did no kind of procedure?" He responded, "That's why insurance is important". Being the good boy that I am, I reached for a credit card to pay this outrageous price for nothing. To be honest, it took me a couple of visits to really warm up to him, but now that I've been a patient for a while, I have to say I really like him a lot. He also has a nice sense of humor, not always on display, but at the appropriate time, it sure can make a visit more pleasant. He never makes me feel rushed, he always asks, "What else?" several times, which does help me remember other things I want to discuss with him. The staff at his office is friendly and personable. It's hard to find a good doctor. He's one of them.

He is knowledgeable, thorough, compassionate and most importantly, empathetic. I first met Dr. Rasor when he was affiliated with Premiere Family Physicians in Westlake Hills. I followed him to ProCare and then to Village Medical. Each move was necessitated by his desire to provide patient-centered care in a practice that could offer optimum healthcare to his patients. MDVIP has finally given him the opportunity to do exactly that. I am able to get same-day or next-day appointments. When I call, I can reach his office directly and speak with his medical staff. There's no call center with agents that have zero medical knowledge and are merely relaying my message to the doctor's office only to get a response 48 hours later. I even have 24/7 access to his cell phone. When I text or call his cell phone, I receive a response within 15 minutes if he's not immediately available. Recently I had a situation where a test result came back abnormal. I was terrified. Dr. Rasor explained everything we were going to do to achieve the best possible outcome. I use the pronoun "we" because when you join MDVIP you take control of your own health. It's a collaborative effort between you and your physician to do what's in your best interest regarding your future health. Fortunately, everything turned out well. However, I know I could not have gotten through that 2 week period waiting for test results without Dr. Rasor walking me through it. I sent daily text messages. I bombarded him with questions. And I'm pretty sure I texted him several evenings well past 10:00 PM. Through it all, he had the utmost patience with me. He never once implied that I was bothering him. He was never abrupt with me. I will be forever grateful for his care and compassion during those 2 weeks. I could never put a price on having his medical expertise and caring bedside manner literally at my finger tips. Which brings me to my final thoughts on the MDVIP model. Yes, there's a cost for service and care such as this. It's approximately $48 per week. That may sound like a lot to those of us who only visit our doctor's office 4 or 6 times a year. However, in addition to the above mentioned benefits, there is an executive physical that is done once a year that includes early disease detection, extensive bloodwork, advanced imaging, cancer screenings and specialized testing. These tests go well beyond the standard yearly physical you receive at a doctor's office. This more than pays for the cost of an MDVIP membership. I don't look at this as a membership fee. I consider it an investment in my future. A future that is much healthier and happier due to the excellent healthcare I continue to receive.
