I'm a big fan of UFH. Usually I pop i about once a month on a Wednesday to check out the New Used Arrivals bins. The prices are fair in relation to the high quality of the piece and pressing. If you're into new music, this is the place to go in metro Detroit for the best selection of new vinyl, especially pop, rock, etc. They're in downtown Royal Oak and the price tags remind you of such, but UHF is definitely worthy of your time. read more

It's refreshing to be able to flip through records again in such a well organized, clean and hip store. The staff is friendly. The selection is plentiful. They're pretty great about advertising what's coming out in the coming week on facebook, too. There have been a few things that I thought were a bit overpriced, but I would say this is my go-to record store from here on out. read more

If you are looking for the new Taylor Swift, go find a big box store. Best Buy or Target. They will have 30 copies and sell it below cost to get you in the store. If you are looking for cool vinyl, new and used. Cool box sets. Used cds, new cds and recommendations from the staff (ask Scott about the Monkees) then head to downtown Royal Oak. You can get a good mean and microbrew on the same block and fill a back with musical goodies from UHF. You will thank me! read more

WOW. It's unbelievable how much money I can spend at one shop. I have to limit my visits to once per month otherwise I'll go broke. This place is really impressive. I can't believe in such a short time how much new vinyl has become the "IT" thing. I've always collected used vinyl as it was so cheap and, well, cool. But this place can stay in business on the sales of brand new vinyl as it is. "Master of Puppets" new was going for $25! I'm not complaining - just saying - vinyl lovers, be ware. You may need to find a place to live with cheaper rent. read more

My son and I always went to uhf for vinyl,but won't be any longer after what was said on facebook.I work for parking enforcement for the city of Royal Oak.I have a job to do ,just like the guy's who own uhf.I have always been nice to their customers,who come out before I write a ticket.I just don't think,its fair to call Parking Enforcement a bunch of Goon's.I wouldn't call the people who work there vinyl goon's,because they charge me for a record.UHF doesn't give away records and the city doesn't give free parking.I thought they had more class then that ,but whatever,I will do business with solo records on Woodward. read more

If you're looking for the typical straight, white, male rockist type of record store then UHF is for you. They focus on classic rock, indie rock, punk and metal. If you're looking for rap/hip-hop, electronic or experimental music then selection is pretty thin. Great for readers of Rolling Stone and Pitchfork but that's about it. The staff isn't particularly friendly or particularly snobby, one or the other would be nice. The one young lady who works there is very nice and when she's there is the only time you won't hear some garbage frat boy indie rock or metal coming out of the speakers. I am a huge maniac music collector with a very wide-ranging taste and I rarely can find anything interesting at UHF. I pretty much only go there anymore to buy concert tickets. Their prices on pretty much anything the slightest bit rare or collectable are a bit much too. If you love paying internet prices in a physical store then UHF is the place for you! read more

UHF is pretty awesome! Their punk selection is why I go there. I have to say it's probably the best in Detroit. They have newer stuff too. And a local section. They have a huge garage section, but I have to say that is their one down fall. Their garage section seems to span the whole store. Which makes it a little confusing to search through things. The staff seems friendly but kinda keep to themselves. But overall I always end up buying something every time I go in. read more

UHF is a new and used record store located in downtown Royal Oak. I want to stress the word RECORD in the last sentence as they don't carry many cd's other than local artists (that's a plus in my book!). This place is going to have the best selection of indie/hipster/metal/punk selection in the Detroit area. The prices are a little high in my opinion but otherwise to order the stuff online you'd be paying shipping so it's all relative. The vinyl is broken down well, as you won't need to search through a whole "rock" genre when you're looking for a specific LP. So yeah, they have a metal section, an idie section, etc. The staff here is always friendly and willing to talk music which is always fun. If they don't have what you're looking for in stock and it's available they will order it for you. They also carry zines, artwork and you can buy some concert tickets for local events without paying any service fee. With all the rekkid stores closing in the area, get out and support this one! read more

i grew up in, like many people, strange times. box stores crop up and we rely on them to tend to our musical taste buds. however, past those days of old woes, new shops are coming out and vinyl recordings are coming back; like they were just on a short holiday. aside from the backstory and past, UHF is quite the shop to, well, shop. the selection is just the tops. every genre that you could imagine is there. the artists that i never assumed would be on their buffet line of tunes were just so. the records are priced well enough that i can curb my lust for new music of today and those ditties of yesteryears. aside from the records, the used selection of compact discs is just a nice way to live on the cheap side and also have something to keep in the car. i never leave without swaying from side to side, inching down to my knees and scanning the sides with a tilted head. the staff is always helpful; in a relaxing sense. how many times have i wandered into a major name store and been hounded if i needed any help? i feel that i'm quite competent to and UHF knows that. there were moments that i couldn't find an album that i was hounding and they ordered it right up. hot and ready. a major climax to my shopping as a 'devotee' is record store day and its' counterpart; black friday. i always make sure that my alarm is set and i'm near the front. the limited releases are always there for me and i anxiously tear around with the calmest face i know. in my final words: UHF always has that great spirit about it. a common kinship in caring for music and the people who do so. because, hell, UHF is part of that clan of record collectors and appreciators. side note: the best albums are played. a fine soundtrack to any shopping experience. read more

I'm more of a CD person than a vinyl listener. UHF has a nice selection of used discs to pick from, all about $5. The new CD's are priced well and they will order anything you need. The staff is very helpful. read more

Not really a vinyl specialty store, more just a record store. They occasionally carry accessories, but don't seem to know how to re-order them. Seems like in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is King. Glad they are there, but could be run better. read more
