Mad cow here--sick of the bull. For more than ten years, I've donated to the Union Gospel Mission Thrift Store in Spokane Valley. I supported it because it claimed to be a Christian mission--one rooted in service, generosity, and care for people. Unfortunately, over the years, the quality of the experience has steadily declined. The service has gotten worse. The pricing has crept higher and higher, to the point where it no longer feels like a thrift store at all. I paw the ground every time I see items priced above what I can find at non-religious thrift stores across town. What finally sent this bull charging, though, is that customers are no longer allowed to use the restrooms. That's right. I can walk into Goodwill or other secular thrift stores, get better service, fairer prices, and still be treated with basic dignity--including access to a restroom. This is what really bothers me. This is supposed to be a Christian thrift store. Yet it delivers a worse experience than stores that make no claim of faith or ministry. After more than a decade of donating and shopping here, we've made the decision to stop. No more donations. No more shopping. We'll take our goods--and our hooves--elsewhere. A Christian mission should lead in kindness, fairness, and respect. Right now, this one is falling behind. And this mad bull is done with the bull. read more

Got a used Fujica st705 film camera. As I thought it'd be nice to use for photographs as I go on trips. It was 45 dollars and pretty decent condition. But when I went to use it the next day, I realized the film compartment door thing was jammed.. I came back today to return but after calling and it took a while for them to get back to us. And they only gave me a gift card in return... I paid in cash and thought I was going to get the amount back cause I would need that money... I'm pretty disappointed. They didn't ask if I wanted the returned money in cash, nothing. They also never asked me if I wanted a receipt that day that I got the camera so I had to go through the trash to find a price sticker from the camera since they wouldn't take the camera without it and went through a whole process to even get the return in the first place. read more

This thrift store used to be the best one around... Not anymore. Everything is way OVER Priced. It's sad this store should be affordable for the community. I will NOT Donate or shop here anymore. Do your self a favor and go shop Goodwill. Or Donate Goodwill. They price for the community to be able to afford shopping there. read more

I had a very disappointing experience there today. I found a set of used car mats with the car logo on them, clearly priced as a single item. However, when I got to the counter, the cashier informed me that she needed to charge extra for the second mat, arguing that there were "two items" despite them being sold as a pair. Who buys just one car mat? Plus, they receive these items for free mind you. My total went from $8 to $12 because of this unreasonable policy. I'm done supporting large chain thrift stores like this, they have all gone down hill ever since they started getting greedy. Was already bad enough when I'd go in there to see stuff marked so high- today was just the final Nail in the coffin. read more

Frankly it's sad. They use to be a fun affordable place to shop. Now prices are astronomical, store shelves are full of random over priced things. Selection is sub par compared to other thrifts. Employees are nice but just doesn't cut the ridiculous prices unfortunately. read more

I've found some cool items in this store, but the prices have gotten ridiculous. I can buy new clothes at a discount retailer for what they are asking. Most of the employees are very nice and do a lot of explaining as to why prices are so high - they will tell you the goal is to fund their nonprofit, not give good deals to customers. Items they perceive as "high end" will be marked up astronomically. I could order these same items online 2nd hand for less money from the comfort of my own home. They will also ask for an additional donation at time of checkout. Many people who shop at thrifts are doing so out of necessity and are not able to pay these high prices. read more

I couldn't decide whether to give this thrift store a 1 or 2. I gave it a 2 only because in the past their prices were fair and I bought a lot of lovely things from them. Not any more. I went there for the last time yesterday and will never go back. Yes it is clean and they have ok things but nothing deserving of the price gouging there. I am was shocked yesterday at what extremely hight prices they were asking for basic, noting wonderful things. For instance a man's long sleeve shirt was $20. Absolutely Not!!! I will not ever go back there. Best to go to the best thrift shop in town and that is the Humane Society Thrift Shop. At the risk of everybody going there now after I tell you how great this place is, its for a good cause and there prices are great and they have really wonderful things. read more

UGM seems only interested in making money. They seemed to be confused as to whether they are a charity or a for profit business. There are other more deserving organizations to donate to. read more

If you care about your health and the health of your family do not shop here . They let More than half of the customers walk around with either no mask or the mask only covering their mouth with their nose exposed . Even the employees Have the masks on wrong And only covering the mouth with the nose exposed . I was going to talk to a manager about this to see if he can help me feel safe But He was actually talking to the employee that I wanted To report So he was fully aware of the situation and just didn't care . For a place that is supposed to care about family and Community they do not show it in their actions . read more

Was second time I left in disgust because of S L O W checkout - This time I was shuffled from one clerk to another , one had to go open the fitting room for someone , no problem .. But , the lady on the other register was trying to do a return , and really couldn't figure it out .. She asked the other checker if he could take me , like three times - But he was too busy doing his "Alert Meerkat" act to be bothered - Then , after the lady asked again , he took off after tow older women who had actually brought a large bag into the store .. That's when I left , my 8 dollar purchase on the counter .. They need to both lower their prices and get some help that aren't Junior TSA Agents in training! read more

This is a fun local thrift store option. A good variety of furniture and decor items. I hit the cardigan and halloween costume jackpot this week when I stopped in and I was only there for 15 minutes. The second of two stores. This is a Christian thrift store that all of the proceeds go to Union Gospel Mission. The prices go from reasonable to down right outrageous! It is pretty well stocked but part of the reason for this is that they are overcharging for their clothes. The other store is better for what ever that is worth. Have fun digging! read more

I found in this store couch, 2 arm chairs, 2 dinner chairs (leather) . everything in good condition

PROS: Very well stocked clothing. You can find some amazing vintage clothing, coats, shoes, etc. The coat and sweater selection is so impressive. Some of my favorite clothing pieces are from here. The kitchen items are clean and organized well. All the dishes come in big sets. Which leads me to the cons. CONS: It is so expensive for a thrift store. The dish sets are used and priced at retail value, I see them for $40+. You could find cheaper sets new at Walmart. The kitchen ware in general is so over priced it's disappointing. The clothing is also very expensive and it bums me out that thrift stores are raising prices so high. I could buy new clothes at Forever21 for the same price. I would rather support a local small business, but I hope the staff will start pricing more reasonably. read more

This store is well organized. Everything on display is clean and appealing. No crowding of everything like many of this type store. I have found some very gently used items. They also have sales on many items also Senior discount. read more

This thrift store always has a huge selection of men's suits and ties, which is great is you are looking for a job! Can't beat being able to get a complete outfit for cheap. Nice, clean, and neat store every time I visit. Keep an ear out for their loud speaker announcements for when they play discount games. Their specific discounts are on different days of the week and they have a punch card for your purchases! read more

We found bike helmets here when no other thrift stores carried them. The place wasn't as well lit and had a slightly dingy feel though.

I agree with Mackenzie. However, they have a selection that rivals Value Village with better staff and Christian music on the background. UGM has been a staple in Spokane for many years and I'm happy to support them :) read more

I can't with this store's prices. It's by far the most expensive thrift store in town. I still go occasionally just in case things change, but I've walked out empty hanged the last half a dozen times I went in. I don't want to pay $8 for a tiny cooking pan, $10 for gross worn in shoes from the 90s, or $15 for one stool. read more

I love browsing at this thrift store. It seems much cleaner than some I have visited and it doesn't have that "old" smell. I work close to this store and it's an easy breeze through on my lunch time. I have found any number of tops and bottoms for myself, both casual and for work. Never thought of myself as a thrift shop kind of person. I have even purchased a few gifts here. The staff at UGM is very friendly. Can't beat the price! I have to visit at least once a month. If you have usable items that are just taking up space at home, it's a great place to drop them off. Bought an iHome dual clock radio from this store....very disappointing. The sign over the electronics said "tested, works", so I bought this for my daughter's birthday. This iHome would not set the time, reset the radio stations or work as it should. Who actually donates crap like that? Better yet, who tests these electronic devices? Obviously this person should not keep testing the electronics if they do not know about electric items and how they work. Seems like they just plug it in and if it looks like it's on, they sell it. I'm NEVER buying anything that plugs in from that place again! read more
