She is really focused on informed consent and has thought through all the considerations and angles, laying out for the patient the pros/cons while also keeping it all understandable. Her breadth of knowledge and clear passion for sleep is evident. Stands out heads and shoulders above other sleep dentists I visited who just prescribed a solution and I didn't understand risk/benefits, pros/cons. I really felt like Dr. Bahl has her patients interests first and foremost and will not be satisfied until she's done everything to address sleep apnea. Top doctor! What a bummer experience. My partner went to UDistrict Smiles after a friend of ours had a decent experience there but our experience was terrible. For the first appointment, the dentist was late and my partner had to use the bathroom, when my partner had finished, her things were at the reception desk and the dentist was nowhere to be found to give her any guidance on how to use the sleep apnea at-home test. Fast forward to today, my partner went to get a crown and was only told AFTER her tooth was already ground down that this was only a temporary crown. Had we known that this would only be a temporary crown, we wouldn't have scheduled her dentist appointment a week before Thanksgiving. There was zero anticipatory guidance before the temporary crown was place or even during. My partner had to advocate for herself as far as what she could eat (nothing chewy like bread or sandwiches a week before Thanksgiving, great) and only got that advice because she had to pester the dentist for it. The dentist said to only chew with one side of her mouth, which makes me wonder if she would've had said anything had we not asked. The dentist didn't give any explanation before doing anything, my partner had to ask all the questions and the lack of communication was so astounding that I had to check with my friend that this was indeed the same dentist due to their very differing experiences. Not only that, but my partner was quoted $600 for the crown placement but ended up having to pay $1000 because they repaired a cracked filling that they never even mentioned having to repair in addition to the crown. My partner was not prepped at all for what this appointment would entail and we were very disappointed with how everything went down. I had a cleaning yesterday done by Ivy. She has an amazing gentle touch. In fact she was so gentle during the cleaning that I almost fell asleep several times...unheard of during a cleaning! DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!! A few weeks ago, I came here as emergency patient for single tooth with some sensitivity. They took one xray and said things negatively about previous work done by previous dentist. Dr. said I need to re-do this root canal and crown which were done poorly as well as other fillings which were done horribly just by looking. She said "YOU should have NOT paid for these kind of work". She was extremely criticizing and mentioned that I should file a complaint with department of health which she can assist. I didn't get any dental work done here since this previous dentist Dr. Bahl was referring to was MY UNCLE who has been practicing for 20 years in Texas. He also worked for health department panel so I highly doubt that he has provided any poor dental work aside from the fact that I am his family. When in doubt, I shared this situation with my uncle and he has suggested to seek another dentist. First of all, it is unprofessional to judge previous work which was done a year ago and being so critical about previous dentist with just 10 minutes of consultation without taking proper X-rays. It was VERY disturbing experience. I guess this dentist runs her business this way. I am done with a uw program soon so don't have to stay here but would STRONGLY advise other students to get another opinion before getting any work done here!!! I saw other Google and Yelp reviews about this dentist which mention similar situation to make you stay at this office to re-do all the work. You MUST get a second opinion with dentist who will take care of your oral health!!! read more

Dr. Bahl is the best dentist I have ever had. I now live over an hour from Seattle and am willing to make the drive because of her. She is warm, kind and does an excellent job. I have had to get in for a crown repair and fillings and could not be happier with her work. I am difficult to numb and she does it perfectly each time with very minimal discomfort. I almost fell asleep during my recent dental work because I was so relaxed and comfortable. Dr. Bahl has very high standards and truly cares about her outcomes. The office staff is always friendly and very helpful with my scheduling constraints. The hygienists and dental assistants are also excellent and Dr. Bahl creates a nice work environment for everyone. She spends time getting to know you and her staff. She has kept the size of the practice very manageable so that she is present and in control of the quality of care. Very refreshing compared to some large 'flashy' practices where you see the dentist for 5 min and they don't know anything about you. Dr. Bahl is wonderful. You will not be disappointed. read more

Do NOT go here....you know a place is sketchy when it has nothing in-between bad reviews and over-the-top 5 star reviews. I gave them a try last year because I was trying to find a dentist closer to my work, and it was a disaster. First of all, they spent the first 10 minutes insisting that I needed new x rays, which I pushed back on multiple times saying I had just seen my regular dentist on the east side 4-5 months prior and had very up to date images. I just needed a cleaning. But they kept arguing that they had a "very special" x ray machine that gets even clearer images of the tooth and I must must must have it. I agreed only after they promised I would not be billed for it and insurance would cover. They even went back to the front office to say they would double check and came back assuring me there would be no charge, so I reluctantly gave in. Surprise surprise, I got a bill from my insurance immediately after, saying (of course) that I am not covered to get two x rays that close together and asking why did I need a second scan in one year? The dentist office waived it for me after I complained, but insisted that the fault was the insurance, not theirs. After that, the hygienist who came to clean my teeth gave me a lengthy sales pitch about how I should invest in an expensive electric toothbrush (that they sell on-site, how convenient....!) saying that I would have much cleaner teeth if I switched from my regular brush to their ridiculously overpriced one. I've never had complaints from my regular dentist about my teeth, zero cavities, excellent brushing, but all the sudden they insisted I definitely needed an upgrade. **eye roll** after already pushing the x rays on me. Then the fun part, after inspecting my teeth (again, no cavities my whole life) they insisted that there was a soft spot on two of my teeth and I definitely needed a filling, ASAP. They tried to get me to agree to get one right on the spot, but I'd already had enough. I was so uncomfortable at their pushiness the entire appointment that I lied and said I'd be back to reschedule, then immediately went back to my regular dentist, who took a look at my teeth and said there was zero need for fillings, and he had no idea what that dentist was thinking. Should have never even tried to switch. It didn't end there, post-appointment being on hold forever with the insurance and U District smiles to get my x ray bill cleared up, they proceeded to harass me to book those fillings (that I didn't even need). Three texts, follow up emails, at least one personal call from the dentist themselves badgering me for "when did I want to book my fillings?" I finally had to block their number and eventually they gave up. I have been thinking about writing this review for awhile and held back because I wanted nothing to do with it, but if I can spare anyone else my experience, it's worth it. Highly DO NOT recommend. read more

Update: remember that god-awful filling I got here? (See my previous review below.) Well turns out that filling was more shoddy than I realized, which explains why I've been having trouble flossing between the tooth that had the filling and the tooth next to it. I.e., when UDistrict Smiles placed this filling, they accidentally (at least I hope it was an accident ?) filled over the space between two teeth, making it impossible for me to floss between them. Weird flex but ok ????? Anyways, so now my current (new) dentist had to prescribe me special extra-fluoride toothpaste (pro-bono, not a money move) to try and prevent cavities from forming between these two teeth (since I can't clean between them!!!!!), otherwise I'll have to pay for a replacement filling. I don't know about you but paying twice for something is 100% not my favorite. Just find somewhere else that excepts your dental insurance. read more

Dr. Bahl is a wonderful dentist! She's an expert at putting people at ease and making them feel comfortable. I love how friendly and sincerely nice she and all of her staff are. I've been going to her for over a year now since my last dentist retired, and I'm incredibly happy with my choice (I did lots of research). I have a difficult to numb mouth (apparently my nerves aren't where they should be), but she is very careful when doing my fillings to make sure I am pain-free. Technically, she's a great dentist with lots of experience and has lots of great review on health-related review websites too. There is free parking in the lot. read more

I'm totally afraid of the dentist. I'd found one I really liked, but unfortunately she relocated across the country and I was once again on the dentist hunt. How do you find a dentist who is friendly, not money-hungry, and not totally terrifying? Ask a coworker and get referred to Dr. Bahl, of course! Everyone at the office was super-friendly and knowledgeable. I felt like I was in good hands the entire time and like there won't be any needless dental work in my future. Like another reviewer said, it really did feel almost like visiting with a friend rather than a dentist, which is great for anxious people like me! My only complaint was the office was a bit hard to find, and once I found it, it took me a second to realize where the parking was. But there IS parking, and now that I know where I'm going I don't think this will be a problem again. Dr. Bahl has been my favorite dentist to date. Her clinic is small and friendly with top-notch staff. They've taken care of my regular cleanings as well as several filling replacements and a crown. There are a few things I particularly like about UDistrict Smiles. Dr. Bahl always remembers me, along with some personal details. They work hard to keep me relaxed and comfortable through a friendly bedside manner, explaining procedures and performing work gently. Almost uniquely, Dr. Bahl has never guilt-tripped me about my irregular flossing. (But she does make it clear that I need to do better in this regard.) Additionally, billing has always gone smoothly. When it came time for me to switch dental insurance carriers, they helped me find a plan that would best fit my needs & budget. read more

I found about about this office thru a gift card offer from Opencare. I got a $50 gift card for getting a cleaning thru them. Insurance paid for the cleaning. Then, I was told I had 2 cavities, so I followed up with an appointment to fill those cavities. Make sure they check your insurance policy before committing to any additional services from them. They were misleading about what my insurance covers. Then, they convinced me to do 5 sealants and told me it would be covered by my insurance. But in reality, they were not covered, and I was billed $39 for each of those sealants. In addition, I was told that my insurance does not cover white fillings. Not that I would have gotten silver ones, but would have been nice to know about upfront. They already collected a co-pay from me at time of service, and everything came to a surprise after I got a bill in the mail asking for more money. I know I am responsible for any charges that the insurance does not pay for, but I feel like I was misled. I am sure many people would feel the same way. read more

U District Smiles is a great local dentistry. Located conveniently near U-Village, they provide a superior service in close proximity to the large student body of UW and the residences of the laurelhurst, sand point, wedgwood, bryant and ravenna neighborhoods. When first searching for a dentist near my home, I had a tough time finding one with flexibility and windows to get me in with my large work schedule. U District Smiles did a great job fitting in a lot of work around my schedule in a timely manner. Over the last few months, I've become very acquainted with Dr. Bahl and her great staff. They did not chastise me for my below average oral hygeine but put me on track to not have to return to the dentist outside of the bi-annual cleanings. The ladies of U Distrct Smile are fun, gentle and professionals in all aspects. On top of the great chemistry the office has, they are on the leading edge of technology. Dr. Bahl noticed that I had a couple canker sores in a couple areas and she took the time to do some laser treatment for $0 charge just to keep my suffering at bay. I had an accident years ago in which my two front teeth were knocked out. I went in two weeks ago for an infection and soon discovered I would need some work done and needed crowns on my front teeth. Because of my previous traumatic experiences at the dentist I was nervous but Dr Bahl immediately put me at ease when I walked in. We sat down and figured out a plan and the office was so accommodating and got me in early to ensure this was complete before a big trip. She was very informative, compassionate, and insisted that I go to the lab to have a custom shade done. I got them done yesterday and have to say I love my new smile!!! I have been so happy with every experience I have had there - from regular cleanings to fillings, etc. They have also been very knowledgeable about dental care and X-rays while I was pregnant (I have been seen there through both of my pregnancies) and always asked me what I was comfortable with, without ever being pushy. They also have these amazing glasses/headphones that you can wear while getting dental work that allow you to watch a movie with sound without paying attention to what they are doing in your mouth! Dr. Bahl and all the staff at U District Smiles are the most amazing people. They're all so friendly and helpful and gleefully entertaining in an otherwise somber situation. Everyone there is very genuine and honestly wants to do what's best for you. I'm traveling to Europe and I'll be gone for 6 months, but I wasn't able to fit a teeth cleaning into my schedule until about 3 weeks before I left. Sure enough, I had a cavity that needed to be taken care of. We scheduled the appointment for a week before my trip and I was off. But then I found out the day before I was booked that I owuldn't be able to come in. I frantically contacted them and sure enough, Dr. Bahl was so gracious and offered to stay late one day the next week so that we could get it taken care of. Experienced traumatic bike accident. Needed medical, and dental attention. This is where Ms. Bahl, my regular dentist became involved. It became immediately to me that she seems over concerned about my finances than my two missing teeth. My insurance was confirmed, yet didn't meet her approval. Needless to say, her work reflected her stingy, and selfish ways. I was stunned. I've didn't know what to do. My teeth had fallen out. Other teeth had roots that were threatened. 'All she was worried about was money. It was reflected in her work. Too fast, nothing fit, painful, not attentive, etc. I walked out with a retainer that today doesn't fit, and it too painful to wear with a fake tooth, and can only be worn for very short times, (minutes) out in the public, when it should be able to be worn for hours. Ms. Bahl said I shouldn't see her again, "because she didn't spend all her time in dental school to talk about accident insurance with me." Sadly, I've never been so disrespected, or treated with a lack of human decency. I hope you take this into consideration when you decide whether to choose Ms. Bahl as your dentist for long term care. These are the situations where you need your provider to hopefully come through for you, and she failed me miserably. I've never written a negative review in my life. Good Luck to You! read more
