California Theatre of the Performing Arts - Outside

California Theatre of the Performing Arts

This place is definitely an old school theater. A lot of character; not too big, very nostalgic…read morefeeling of being back in the day at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle. Classic, and small so expect some delays if you are there for a big show. I went for Ali Siddiq and the doors were to open at a certain time. Things happen. It's still cute!

What a lovely theatre. We love classic movie palaces and drove about 90 minutes to see a show here…read more The size is just right... not too big, not too small. The bathrooms were nicer than I expected. I heard they recently did a renovation and I thought expanding the lobby was a great idea. We saw the ballroom area on the second floor and wow, what a cool space that is. I had a few concerns though which I thought negatively affected my experience. During intermission I couldn't figure out why there was such a hold up exiting the theatre. Yes there were a number of older patrons who walked slow or with walkers, but that is totally fine. When I exited the auditorium I saw this HUGE bottle neck of the men's bathroom line, elevator line, people exiting the theatre and people entering the theatre... and to top it all off... they put the refreshment bar right there. OMG... it was so frustrating and such a bottleneck. I'd consider moving the refreshment bar to the main lobby area which seem to be much more spacious and give more room for the auditorium doors. While I thought the bathrooms were unexpectly large and spacious but there were some concerns I had. The line to the men's bathroom went well into the lobby, but the door needed to be handled by every person in line. I think a door stop might help to prop the door open and so not everyone had to touch the door. Every single person (hopefully) is washing their hands - but with a manual on/off lever, it just stalled the sink line. And, it made a mess with everyone's wet hands handling the faucet lever and walking to the paper towel dispenser. I think they could speed up the line and make less congeston by using automatic on/off faucets. This is what the Pantages recently did and it was a game changer. Same goes with the paper towel dispenser. Everyone had to wave their hand to get the towels to dispense. Ugg, it was sooooo slow. I'd much prefer the towel dispensers which would automatically dispense a towel immediately when one is ripped off. And, worst part, with just 2 dispensers in the men's bathroom, there was one that was not working with dead batteries. OMG... that should be a priority to check before opening the house. In many ways this is just inexcusable.

The Grove is a historical building and I came here to see the production of Disney's High school…read moremusical. I arrived about thirty-five minutes early as I wanted to make sure there was enough time to find parking, retrieve my tickets, and find my seat. It was also my first time visiting this theatre. Ive made my way to will call to pick up ticket. A lady came out with prepaid tickets; I gave her my last name and she found my ticket right away. I didn't get her name but she was personable and kind. She was also very funny as we laughed a bit before I walked away--there was a big crowd of people that formed a queue behind me. Making my way to the entrance; I handed the lady whom was collecting tickets my ticket and she was very kind. They have a concession area for snacks and beverages. The theatre doors weren't opened just yet as showtime wasn't until 7:29pm, but the doors opened promptly at 7pm. I found my seat H-16 center which was nice and close to stage. The clock struck 7:15pm and the seats starting to fill in more with bodies. The production started right away but before it did there was an announcement that cell phones and beepers (yes beepers) had to be turned off--for everyone to sit back and enjoy the show. The show began and immediately it took me back as I remember growing up when the musical was released. I somehow remembered a few of the words to some of songs and found myself lip singing along: "We're all in this together Once we know That we are We're all stars And we see that We're all in this together And it shows When we stand Hand in hand Make our dreams come true" We are all in this together so let's make the best of life! This was truly an amazing show and all the actors and actresses were phenomenal--keep in mind that this show in particular was put on by the youth. I would like to return for an adult production. Nevertheless, it was a nice trip down memory lane. As I was exiting the theatre I found myself chatting with some people including the manager who was such a darling. I do my very best to always be in good spirits and this definitely added to it by sprinkling positivity all around. I left the theatre still lip singing: "Together, together, together everyone Together, we're there for each other every time" (Disney's We're all in this together, high school musical) "Let's do what we love and do a lot of it!" -Marc Jacobs

I would definitely come again. The only concern would be how hot it gets in the theatre luckily most seats were not taken because it was an afternoon showing so I was able to move to a more comfortable seat and not feel claustrophobic. it was hot in the I.E today and would consider a winter show. I had a great time even with the small snack bar and cheap prices.. also they should carry more craft beer rather then just the typical bud type.

I honestly had no idea this place was here (I guess I'm not cultured lol)…read more This place did not disappoint. It's in a really nice area of Costa Mesa close to a bunch of hotels, south coast plaza and some of the best restaurants. (So many options for you to pick from and have dinner before your show) The architecture of the building itself is really beautiful. I would say it's a little tucked in, because I am always in this area and have never seen it before. The ambiance inside is nice as well. It's extremely clean This place has a parking garage and valet. Unfortunately, we had no idea they had valet. So we just automatically parked in the parking garage. But they do have a little walk way that is extremely easy to get to the building from the garage The lines went extremely fast for getting into the building. There was no restrictions on handbag size. ( or at least they didn't say anything to me about it / could differ from show to show and who is performing) All I had to do was open my purse and walk through a metal detector. Everyone was so friendly Once we entered the building, there are tons of staff directing you where to go if you need help finding your section They do have stairs when you walk in, but they have elevators. I chose to walk up a few stairs and then take the elevator to get to our seats We had second floor box circle level seating. It was extremely easy to get to the seats and the lady who took us to our seats was extremely kind and helpful She also gave us the rules - No placing your handbag on the railing, no video or flash photography I can't stress enough, the importance of elevators and it being accessible. So 5 stars for that The bathrooms were very clean and had a great amount of bathroom stalls. So there was no line I only saw one very tiny stand where you could get refreshments. I did not get anything, so I don't know what they had to offer (such as alcohol or if they had any food) The write up online for the show we went to for Tchaikovsky's Fifth & Avi Avital Pacific Symphony -Experience Tchaikovsky's Triumphant Fifth & Mandolin Virtuoso Avi Avital! As many of us know, Classical music is not for everyone, unless you have a special type of interest…read moretowards that kind of music. Classical music is something that I grew up with and still enjoy listening to until now. I can name a lot of my favorite composers from back in early 16, 17, 18 hundreds but I'd rather not. I listen to symphony/classical music with a different ear. It is always relaxing, soothing, and calming. Also, let me not forget to mention that I grew up playing the piano very well. That also has something to do with it. The Renée & Henry Segerstrom Hall is the newest addition to the Segerstrom Center for the Arts campus, opening in 2006. I have been to this place 5 times in my life. Each time that I have gone there has been a beautiful experience, top notch, in every way. Great location with so many dining options within walking distance & the Pacific Symphony are glorious, glamorous and amazing to listen to. This hall is GORGEOUS, BEAUTIFUL, & EXTRAORDINARY! It has 4 levels and no matter where you sit, you can see and hear the performance very clearly. The sound system is FANTASTIC!! I have seen/heard Itzhak Perlman, Scandinavian dance performance, couple of Jazz artists like Berry Perkins Bobby Rush, and few others.. On February 7th, a friend of mine invited me to the event "St.Clair Conducts Beethoven & Don Quixote". Tickets started at $33 and up. Our tickets were $108.00 each. I know, pretty steep, but, totally worth it. We were sitting in the orchestra level row U, seats 10 & 11. I can go on and on and on about this wonderful venue, the architecture of the building, but my fingers are now tired, so I will conclude my review by saying that staff are very professional, helpful, ushers will direct/escort you to your seats, parking is $20 and the rest I am leaving it to your own imagination. Pristine, super clean restrooms. Lights off, and enjoy the program:-)!! I wish this place was close to my city/home.
