SIX outdoor basketball courts under a roof!

*** Pitstop Review (Yucaipa) *** I was driving by and noticed this huge airplane hanger looking structure so I had to stop. Upon a closure inspection the hanger (for lack of a better word) shelter six basketball courts! Holy smokes that is amazing!!! if my son saw this park with all of the courts he would be in heaven! Granted it's not beautiful, but the idea is probably more economical than building a fully enclosed gym. There's shelter from the elements and lighting on the ceiling. Here's the deal ... I get to see many communities on my treks and I am very fortunate to see how other people live. I zillowed the housing prices in this area and it's not that extravagant compared to the common half-million dollar figures in Orange County. The streets look nice and clean. The homes look well kept. This park is huge, clean, and well kept. When I see a community that's able to have this kind of facility for their people and kids I start to wonder why can't my community do the same??? People probably think I'm crazy when I say things CAN be BETTER and there's always room for improvement. When people challenge you and say WHY? You must counter the status quo and say WHY NOT! Here's what liked... * I really like the layout of this park and the overhead cover for the basketball courts. I have no idea about how the residents are, but the well-kept area and facility says a lot! * Having areas where kids can participate in sports is ALWAYS a good thing. It keeps them out of trouble and teaches them some good skills. Like that old saying goes, "idle hands are the devil's workshop..." Here's what I didn't like... * Where are the restrooms??? ha ha ha...

My favorite park except they turn the sprinklers on at night a little too early especially during summer when it's barely 80 at 9pm

It's also worth mentioning that the local skaters and scooter kids are real cool and welcoming to visitors and there's some incredible talent in this little mountain town. If you're in the area and looking to skate it's definitely worth visiting.

The skatepark is free and offers area skaters a safe, modern park with modular ramps and obstacles, a launch ramp, rails, benches and a mini half-pipe. A great place for active teens to work off some energy. Also nearby: Goodwin's Market, a picnic area and basketball and tennis courts. Restrooms and a children's playground are located here. So while the teens are riding the rails, the younger ones can play on the jungle gym and parents can relax and hang out watching. Lake Arrowhead and Lake Gregory offer all kinds of seasonal recreation opportunities like snow-skiing and boarding in the winter and swimming & water-skiing in the summer. Nice that Lake Gregory Rec Company has this nice sports complex that can be enjoyed by all ages of residents and visitors alike.

Yucca Valley partners with nonprofit orgs like Reach Out Morongo Basin to address homelessness--this includes food distribution and outreach initiatives. Additionally, church groups, athletic teams, and local artists reach out and share their skills on a regular basis. Unlike other parks in this town there are rooms where events, meetings, and shows can be held. Community Resource events using Park Center spaces often offer services such as mobile legal aid, defense programs, and low cost pet vaccination. Not too long ago my daughter got a chance to hold a number of unique animals. I different time the labrary held a reading challenge and I won a brand new tablet. Although the park is technically just across the street there's no crosswalk within a mile in either direction. It honestly feels like the City of Redlands isn't fully aware they have train service. The park itself is quite lovely and spacious, featuring a large rose garden, a children's play area, a gazebo (which requires a permit to use), several picnic spots, a horseshoe pit, and a skatepark. One picnic area has a functioning sink, but the others lack water access. While the landscaping is attractive, overall maintenance leaves much to be desired. There are remnants of old tennis courts in disrepair, and although the restrooms were clean and open, they're very outdated and likely don't meet current codes (cities don't have to comply with their own codes). Sidewalks are scarce, making this park difficult to navigate for anyone with mobility challenges. If you're planning a small gathering, keep your group under 25 people to avoid needing a permit. Seating is limited, so arriving early is a must. Also, be prepared to pack up and leave quickly if law enforcement hassles you. Parking is limited for a park of this size, which is why taking the train would be ideal--if it weren't for the unsafe street crossing, especially concerning if you have small children. Sylvan Park is technically a "resident park," not a "public park." This means its primary use is intended for Redlands residents, and non-resident use may be restricted or require additional permissions. For larger group events needing permits, you'll likely need liability insurance and guidance from a Redlands-based attorney is strongly advised.
