I took my Xbox One S to uBreakiFix in Fairview Heights and paid $65 for them to install a new hard drive. After keeping my console, they eventually told me they "couldn't get the new drive to work" and handed it back without a solution. That was the entire service -- no fix, no real explanation, and no refund.
What makes this worse is that I went home, watched a couple of YouTube videos, bought a Torx bit set from Harbor Freight, and fixed the Xbox myself in about an hour and a half. I've never repaired an Xbox before, yet I was able to do what the "professionals" couldn't.
It really feels like a money‑grab system: they advertise free diagnostics, but once they take your device, they can just say the repair was "unsuccessful" and still keep your money. If they're going to charge for bench time, at least be upfront about it -- something like a $30 evaluation fee that gets applied to the repair if they can actually do it. Instead, I paid $65 for absolutely nothing.
I attempted to contact management hoping to arrive at a compromise that included a full refund, a 1/2 refund or even just a refund of $11 dollars to cover the cost of the Torx bit kit all to no avail. That said, I wouldn't recommend this location including it's other locations in St. Louis to anyone looking for honest or competent repair service. read more
