How much insurance does your Uber carry on their vehicle? State minimums? Does their carrier know they are an Uber driver?

On January 17, 2019 I experienced a horrible ride with a female Uber driver. Pick up was around 5pm from Washington National Airport. Twice she went the wrong way, taking me into Virginia when I needed to go in the opposite direction. When I complained, her response was, "So, you don't make mistakes? Relax. I need to drive." When I asked how to contact Support, she replied, "I don't know. Figure it out." Her ineptness added more than 20 minutes as well as mileage to my ride. I lost time getting to a critical appointment because of her inability to follow directions and her rude behavior. The driver's ineptness caused the fare to increase from $41.15 to $58.95. Now Uber is trying to make me pay for something the driver caused. She should pay, not me, as I did not ask the driver to take a different route, or to add stops. I have complained too many times, yet Uber continues to send receipts for the increased fare. This is too much, and I am so done with Uber. read more

Uber is a fantastic service with great customer service. After downloading the app to my phone and attempting to use it on a busy Saturday, we realized there were no Uber cabs available. However, I promptly received an email from their support team to apologize for the lack of cabs and a $10 credit to my account. All I can say is that I'm not surprised they're in such high demand! Be mindful of when you're requesting a cab. I booked a car to take me to an event and it cost $11, not bad. A few hours later I requested another car to pick me up and take me home (my original pick-up location) and it cost $26!! The driver did tell me there was an increase in fare due to the hour but there really wasn't anything I could do at that point because the driver had already arrived and I was not in a place in DC that cabs drive by all the time. I had to bite the bullet and take that ride home. Other than the difference in price the driver was great, the car was clean, and he took the quickest way. I've now become a frequent user of Uber. The black cars continue to deliver quality, albeit at a higher price. But UberX is problematic, primarily because the drivers don't seem to know where they are going. Seriously. NONE of them!!! They rely on a smartphone GPS that seems set to take them on the longest route possible. Heaven forbid you don't know the right route, because you'll be taken for a ride otherwise. Plus, in relying on that GPS, they don't use the spoken word function (with one exception). So you have a lost driver concentrating on a little map on a smartphone when s/he should be concentrating on the road. read more

I use uber quite frequently and even have an Uber Visa card. The company understandably has some issues at times which I typically just brush off, sometimes drivers make mistakes, sometimes there's traffic; things happen. However this morning I was driven over the va/dc state line multiple times taken down one way streets and passed my destination (separated by water or bridges) multiple times all because of mistakes made by my driver. He was apologetic and very nice and my real issues is not with him. I reached out to Uber about the issues with the ride and despite explaining what I'm upset about I am only getting patronizing responses brushing me off. The $10 fare is not a huge issue to me, however it should be an even smaller issue to Uber. My real issue now lies with the customer service; being talked down to and a blatant disregard for listening to my complaints. I do not recommend using Uber, and will be switching my services to Lyft or another car service until the Uber customer service learns how to treat people. read more

Started driving for Uber Nov 2015, made somewhat money so upgraded my vehicle march2016 but due to tags being TNC can't transfer unless TNC is removed. now trying to reapply with Uber and I'm getting the run's, even the referred drive I invited now after they completed the required 50 trips they told me that the driver didn't meet a requirement but which requirement they wont list nor directly tell me also why my back grand isn't going through. would never again refer anymore contacts to this faults lying no real contact by landline place to anyone. also watch your taxes they don't report that 20-35% they take from you on you 1099 naughtier. I used Uber on my recent flight out of Dulles. Only had to wait 5 minutes for a brand new Suburban to pick me up at my Apartment in Crystal City. The $80 flat fare including tip from inside the beltway to Dulles is one of the best values you can get. A cab would cost about the same and you don't have to hassle with taking the bus. If you are a first time user, look for someone to refer you and get $10 free. Really easy experience and friendly drivers. read more

OMG thank you UBER!!!! Took one to the airport at 5:00 AM and the driver showed up on time, put my bags in the trunk and asked me if I would like to listen to morning edition on the way. Incredible! I have been a devoted Uber fan and have highly recommended the service. I have never minded paying a little extra because the drivers are great, it is reliable and I felt very safe. Imagine my surprise, however, when I used Uber the other night (a random weekday evening) and found that my 3.92 mile ride cost $43. Apparently, they have implemented "surge pricing" at peak times - something I had not seen before. In fairness, I was told via the app that surge pricing was in effect and it would be 1.75x the fare. I just never dreamed it would be $43. Interestingly, I checked the same route (using their estimator tool) for a Friday night when there was some rainy/snowy weather - no surge pricing in sight and the fare was estimated as a very reasonable $23-$27. I wrote a note to the service department and did get a response further explaining the rationale. Unfortunately, nothing is going to make me feel good about $43 for 3.92 miles. Bottom line - great service but you need to watch out for the surge pricing alert. Glad I learned my lesson on a short ride! I will definitely think (and look) twice going forward. read more

I requested a ride about 8:45 pm Friday evening at Kennedy Center, pick-up scheduled for 2 minutes. After 3 phone calls saying driver was almost there, at 9:15 received a text message saying driver has cancelled our pick-up, please try again. Really? Did I have a flight to catch, was this a first night out trying to impress my date? I'd say Uber is lousy service but it was no service. read more

Uber saved me in a pinch when the cab I had called never showed up to take me to the train station. A passerby suggested I take an Uber and they arrived in 3 minutes and saved the day. The driver was very polite and the car was impeccable. I'll never use another cab service ever again if I can help it. I would highly recommend Uber! read more

Cost me $53 to go from Arlington (Courthouse) to SE Tingey St (Se Waterfront). This according to google is a 13 minute drive...I can tell you I was in the taxi for at least 30 minutes. I would have give a poor review on the spot if I had realized the outrageous price for the poor and haphazard service. Myself and friend just took our first Uber ride and it was very nice. We chose the UberX option and a Lincoln town car ended up in the area for use. The driver (Ezzat) has been with the company for about a year and was extremely courteous... He even opened the door for us when we got to our destination. A nice plus was the ride home actually cost a bit less than the ride to the restaurant and was much quicker. read more

Uber has made the taxi service in DC.,worse. They have some good drivers and cars. However, their technology often doesn't work. Plus, they jack up the fares in rush hours to 2.5 times as much , CURB is much better. read more

I use to love Uber until they scammed me out of $45. I was walking down the side of the street after a concert and an Uber driver pulled up and asked if I needed a ride. I got in the car but before he even had the change to drive off I exited the car because the ride would have been too costly. I did not request the Uber, in fact I don't even know how my account was accessed to make the $45 charge because my phone was dead at the time so I was unable to even pull up the Uber app. I've contacted Uber several times about a refund and still no response. read more

I have been trying to set up an account. I had one, canceled it and now need to set up another one. The Uber app won't let me. It says my number is still registered. Fine. I'll just try to log in, maybe my account wasn't canceled. It does not recognize any of my email addresses. So I can't do anything. Have sent three emails to customer service. Have not even received an auto reply that the received my request. I have heard nothing. So their customer service sucks. Probably good since I will be using Lyft from now on. I wish I could rate it a zero too! First time using it from DC to Burke, VA. Cost $193!! Said we accepted a 2.5 %surcharge. Well, my kids are the ones that ordered it and they don't recall accepting that. Who would??? What is the surcharge for anyway and it was only about 9:30 pm on a Saturday. I take uber quiet frequently and I've had some great experiences, but unfortunately yesterday was not one of them. The driver made several sexiest remarks that greatly offended me and to top it off he did not use ac, if I wanted to be in the heat I would have taken the bus for way less. I have had the worst experiences with Uber and not knowing where the locations are that the Uber app recognizes and the drivers can't find even though they are prominent locations identified by the Uber App. Prepare to be charged even though the driver can't find the location identified as the pickup location by the Uber App. A complete scam. read more

Terrible service and sad part is they don't even care or try to make it better. You spend your money to deal with disrespectful people, drivers who can cancel rides because they feel like it, even after making you wait over 10 mins, then charging a fee to compensate themselves smdh. In my opinion Uber doesn't even deserve a star right now. I was very disappointed in their service right now and will never use them again. I've heard bad news and reports about them but decided to give them a benefit of a doubt but to my surprised, they disappointed me too. Prior to this incident I've only taken Uber twice. I called Uber yesterday 4/26/18 to pick me up from my office and was told the driver will be there in 3mins. 10mins came and the driver still wasn't there. So I waited for another 10 mins making it total of 20mins and decided to call the driver to find out what's going on. To my amazed, when I called the driver he told me he doesn't even have any customer in his log for pickup and advised that I cancel my trip. At this point, I was very upset and went back to cancel my trip, which indicated $5 fee of cancellation. Later on that day, I went to check my bank account and Uber has taken the full price for my trip that never happened. I tried finding a number to call but to no avail. At this moment I have totally lost respect and trust in them. I lost money on top of it too. read more

I decided to download the I-phone application for Uber after many friends of mine raved about the service. After using Uber for the first time this weekend, I am a fan. My only complaint is the app sent the driver to the wrong address and I was billed from that wrong address. However, the driver, Ansar, could have not been more courteous and responsive. I do plan to use Uber rather than cabs but I hope the wrong address is not a reoccurring event. read more

I tried it for the first time today on a friend's recommendation, and it worked very well. A bit more expensive than taking a regular cab, but being able to get a cab exactly when you need one, and reliably arrive at your destination on time without having to take chunks out of your day to budget for late drivers is worth a little extra. The car was clean and extremely comfortable (soft leather seats). Not needing to calculate tip and fuss over correct change is also a plus. You can also send for a car by text message if you aren't getting wireless coverage, which is an issue with my phone, so overall, pretty sweet service. read more

Does Uber make a habit of gouging younger customers? My daughter and her friend were charged nearly $250 on New Year's Eve for a 12 mile, 25 minute trip from downtown DC to Falls Church. No mention was made of a premium charge when the car was ordered, but when they were picked up the driver said it was 10 times the usual rate because it was New Years. I liked the idea of knowing they could get home safely, but I would warn other parents against trusting this transportation service. read more

Great service but very very very poor customer service. When it comes to giving them the money they are all for it but when it comes to the customer they are completely unconcerned and UNAPOLOGETIC when they are at fault. I lost my phone on my birthday and whoever found my phone used the uber app on my phone to call an uber and charge my card on file for the ride I did not receive. As soon as I woke up I reported my phone stolen to the police and deactivated my phone. I then noticed the charge on my credit card. And informed uber of my situation. They told me that I need to take it up with my credit card company aka we are sorry to hear this but we are keeping the money and we are not refunding you the amount. So I took it up with the credit card company. (I was already stressed at the time because I lost my $500 phone, plus I had someone charging my credit card!) So I informed my credit card company of the issue and I had to provide supporting documents about the situation, my police report and the emails of me asking uber about there refund policy (which is not located anywhere on the website) and how I asked them for a refund and they replied back with the same AUTOMATED response that says they can't help me and I need to contact my credit card company. After doing everything I need to do to prove I 100% was not responsible for this charge, my credit card company refunded me the amount and said uber would be responsible for them amount and changed my card number just In Case so there wouldn't be anymore fraudulent activity. This is the worst part..after sorting it all out, uber attempts to charge me for the amount of that ride AGAIN because they are now being held responsible for it. And tells me in an email my account will be suspended until I pay them this amount!!!! Can you believe it!! First! I'm glad I changed my card because that would have been a whole other repeat of the situation. Second! Are you serious?!? YOUR company uber technologies advised I take it up with my credit card company because you couldn't help me and didn't care to. And now your STILL trying to charge me AGAIN for the same ride?!?...smh Lastly...I believe each uber driver is suppose to confirm the name of the person entering the cab before driving to make sure they are not picking up the wrong person and charging the wrong persons card...which uber obviously did not do and that's why this all even occurred in the first place... One more thing I also contacted the driver for that ride because they give you that option in case you loose something in the car. And I asked him "did you ask if the person was me before giving him a ride?!?" He said no.. So be careful because all around the city uber drivers may accidentally pick up the wrong people and charge your card, refuse to refund you, not try to correct THEIR mistake and foot you with the bill. I usually don't do this but I just feel like this is so disrespectful and very bad business. Be careful dealing with uber. This service that Uber provided is the best thing I have seen in a long time! This is the most amazing service. I am in DC for the week and this has been the easiest way to get around and cheaper more often than not than a taxi. The APP is extremely easy to use and in minutes you have a car! The cost is told to you upfront and every driver I have had has been awesome! I can't believe I have missed this service before. I will not travel to a city that has Uber and not use it ever again! This is a great company and can't wait to see them expand! Please come to more cities! read more

I am a very dissatisfied customer. I have been a loving Uber customer since i moved into the city back in Decmeber 2014. I will no longer be using uber due to the constant surge in price. It seems I can never get a normal fare. Last trip I went 5 miles and payed 40 DOLLARS!. I COULD HAVE CALLED A TAXI!!!!!! So yea I advise anyone to compare the price with a taxi before you hop in a uber because they are jipping us of. read more

I rode with Uber this past Friday evening and i'm very disappointed in their service. Unfortunatley I left my phone in the backseat of the vehicle but realized this only seconds after the drive left. I figured it wouldn't be too hard to get a hold of him since we have a receipt and his information. I was very wrong. Uber hasn't been any help at all in getting in touch with the driver and when they "connect" me to him nobody picks up. I find that to be very fishy as well. I hope to have this issue resolved very soon but by the way Uber is handling this I fear that may not happen. read more

This would be a great service except they have terrible customer service. I took what was for the most part a pleasurable car ride from Upper NW to Downtown. The fare was $33 when a cab would have been about $15 but I was happy to pay the extra for the convenience and comfort they offer over a typical cab. The problem is they way Uber does their billing caused my credit card to be frozen as potentially fraud activity. Uber's customer service acknowledged that many customers experience this problem but did nothing to help rectify the problem, alert their customers of the potential problem, or compensate customers who were inconvenienced. I complained to their customer service and all they offered me was a $5 uber credit - pretty pitiful for a premium service considering that it cost me 2 hours of headaches to resolve with my bank and the embarrasment of my credit card being rejected at a restaurant. read more
