Without any further investigation, UBER headquartered in San Francisco, California United States charged me $71.62 last 28th of July, Friday. Three (3) hours after my ride (Arrival time: 9:49AM from Lake Vining Dr. Orlando Florida 32821 to Wells Fargo Bank at Orangewood Blvd, Orlando Florida 32821; total fee of my ride was $89.45) $71.62 doesn't sound as a monumental amount for everybody but for me as an individual who just started life in this faraway land from home, and trying to be as thrifty as possible, means something to me.
I booked my ride from my humble abode to my bank to do my errands. By the time I opened the door, everything was decent. I apparently find the interior (of the car) clean. In all honesty, for the entire trip I was just sitting with my purse beside me, I didn't have any interaction with the driver (named Luis, Toyota Corolla tag # DLLZ84) no food and no drinks. It took me approximately 12 minutes to reach my destination. I went down and bid good bye to the driver like I always do with my usual rides. 3 hours eventually after my ride, I was in awe to see a charge on my Visa card worth $71.62. Right after my astonishment, I emailed UBER and clarified about my charge however, UBER gave me a reply coming from the driver's side that I was messing and creating dirt in the car, below is the message directly from UBER:
" Thanks for reaching out Sheena, unfortunately, your driver reported a mess from your trip that requires clean-up fee. Cleaning fees are assessed and charged according to extent of damage. The mess in question was ketchup, mustard and coffee. We've attached photos from this incident. When this happens, drivers are unable to accept trips and must spend time cleaning up messes instead of picking up riders. We appreciate your understanding. More information on cleaning fees is available here." -Uber
I truly explained my side, and informed them thoroughly. They didn't even verify the pictures taken (pictures can be taken after my ride or whenever the driver got the chance to do it). I was depressed and extremely angry about this incident. They immediately charged my account without any beyond investigation. I tried to voice out the truth during the situation but they failed to listen and didn't even show a glimpse of justice in the situation I was into.
I always use UBER for my means of transportation in this current place. Orlando is known to have an ocean of tourists every season and an estimation of 45% uses online applications such as UBER and the like.
I decided to write this article to promote awareness to the public and to make sure the people are oriented with this kind of circumstances.
I still have high hopes that UBER will correct and give fair shake to my situation and as well for those who are with me on the same page but chose to be in silence.
Thank you.
Sheena Faye Cesar
