Uber driver just scammed me out of $9 . Charged me $18 for a $9 ride and claimed it was 29min when it was only 10min

I've recently been using this service alot and I can tell you from my experience has been pleasant. Uber ha been there Everytime pretty much seamlessly. The drivers have been very professional and polite. I would most definetly use this service and will more in the future. Uber is perpetrating a wait time scam against riders. I have received wait time fees on almost all of my rides lately, despite hailing the Uber from the exact pickup location. I never left my pickup point. The scam is that drivers have realized they can make a few more bucks if they manually hit the "I've arrived button" just prior to actually arriving. Then, when they show up to a slightly incorrect location, you get charged a bigger wait fee while they find the proper pickup point. A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT is necessary to correct this fraud. read more

Uber in Detroit is no different than Uber anywhere else. I am from ATL where Uber is just another regular thing to do. I have taken it every time I am up here working and had zero issues. Every once in a while they circle the block but Uber makes up for it if you are honest in your review. Just like every other city Uber is in. Basically if you are uncomfortable in a taxi and don't mind paying 2/5 more bucks for a ride then use Uber. It is not huge in Detroit but definately will get the job done. I'm all about Uber as I travel the country for work and everything in life is hit and miss. But Uber is definately a hit 99% of the time. Be open to conversation and meeting new people. Uber is a great way to do that. read more

I had the WORST experience with Uber and their non-existent customer help center. Lyft, at least cares about their customers when issue occur, but Uber simply wants you to just go away, I'm not! I took an Uber ride this past Saturday night and when the driver arrived he had the most ridiculous rules that made absolutely no sense. One of which was to put any bags on the floor and not allowed on the seat next to you. I had a black gym bag, a very common occurrence when traveling, and was forced to put it on the floor. After the strangest ride, with the strangest driver, distracted from his non stop talking about nothing the entire time, when we got to the destination, of course I forgot the bag on the floor, in the dark, in a dark car. If it was on my seat, touching me there is no way I would have forgotten it. The bag was super expensive from Nordstrom $100, filled with Nike Metcon shoes $130, brand new Beats by Dre headphones $179, tons of Goodlife t shirts that are $60 each, a couple lifting tank tops, lulu lemon joggers $115, medication in a side pocket, etc. We followed ALL the Uber channels to get the bag back immediately! We called the driver SO MANY times, left messages, sent texts, nothing! They actually responded to us by saying if you can't get in touch by an amt of time to contact Uber, we did, and they actually responded by saying the driver HAS the bag and here is his number, if you can't get a response in 2 MORE days to contact them again. Now were just waiting for Uber customer service, which clearly just wants us to go away and THERE IS NO CUSTOMER NUMBER TO CALL UNLESS YOU ARE IN DANGER. What large company doesn't have a number you can call for support?!?! Anyways beware of Uber and go with a different company if possible. I learned about Uber when they first came to Detroit. I think the night they launched their service was at the time of the Yelp Event at Skybar Lounge. Honestly, I sort of dismissed it. It sounded like an awesome idea, but I figured it was out of my budget. I've called for a cab several times during the 3 years that I have lived in Royal Oak. The cab companies around here are awful. AWFUL! If they show up, they're disgusting. I've only had 1 good experience. Last Saturday, I decided to give Uber a try. I had the phone app already. The price quote was the same as the crappy cabs! I love this app. You can see the Uber cabs on the map, so you know exactly where they are. There are 2 options for cab service. UberX and Black Car. Unfortunately, there wasn't an UberX in the area (this is the cheaper fare). So, I scheduled a Black Car, which wasn't too much more. The driver showed up in 6 minutes. 6 MINUTES. Normally, if I call one of the local cab companies, it's a minimum of 45 minutes. I'm sure the wait would've been longer, or not available on a Saturday night. Our driver showed up in a suit and a driver hat. Very cool. The car was clean, and our driver was really nice. Such a big difference. When we were ready to head home, I went back to my app to schedule a ride home. We were at a show and had to wait in a long line at coat check. The cab driver showed up within minutes and called me. She was really nice about the situation and waited outside. This time we were able to schedule an UberX car, which she had a Pontiac G6. It was also very clean, leather seats, maybe a little beat up but way better than what we're used to. The driver was very friendly and got us home quickly. I love that everything is taken care of through the phone app. I received text messages when they were both in the area and at the location. We had such a great experience. I wish we had used them sooner. Uber will definitely be our 1st choice from now on! read more

If I could give -100 stars I would. My UBER account was hacked on 11/23 and 11/24 in freaking THAILAND (I am in MI) and I have yet to receive reimbursement from UBER. Their customer service is the WORST and there is no way to contact them via phone. All I seem to get are automatic emails and Facebook messages. I have deleted my account on more than one occasion, only to find it reinstated somehow (and not by me). I am beyond pissed. read more

I used Uber in Nashville (first time) this summer, so was excited when I realized they were also in Detroit. So, I needed a ride to metro airport for an early morning flight last week. I was concerned that there might not be a car available as early as 5 am, so I woke up early the day before my flight to check. The app said a car was 18 minutes out. I was relieved. The next day, the morning of my actual flight, I opened the app up an hour before I needed a car. It said, again, a car was 18 minutes out and showed a car in a neighboring city. I waited until 20 minutes before I needed a ride and requested pick up. The app "requested" for 10 minutes and then said no cars were available. At this point I had to drive myself and pay for parking during my trip, which was completely unexpected. Über cost me time and money. I am disgusted. Took an Uber from a black tie event back home one night and I was traveling solo! Had a large vase of flowers with me and about a cup of water spilled from the vase on to the drivers weather mats. I told the driver and he said not to worry it's water and will dry. The next day I was charged a 20 dollar cleaning fee! I called Uber support and they were completely not helpful and said a spill is a spill! Very disappointed with customer support at Uber. Then the support center sent me pictures of the spill and circled it and said 'water spill!!Unbelievable!! read more

This is my on my service. I do feel they are a great service for occasions but maybe not for a regular almost opinion every day service like I needed. I used Uber at least three times a day, two days a week to get to work when I did not have access to the family car. My circumstances were different from others who use this service. With that said, here we go. The Good: The drivers are polite and very friendly. The cars are clean and in great condition. I love that you can get the app and even watch your driver come to you on the map. The bad: I had to call in my location to make sure drivers did not end up somewhere else. The gps sometimes picked up the wring location. When I began using Uber, I had no problem for pick-ups unless I was somewhere 21 minutes or more away from the nearest driver. Then around springtime, drivers started calling me to ask where I was going, basically to see if it was worth their time and would cancel. They actually said where I was going was not far enough. Which I totally get since some would take longer to get to me than the length of my ride...but this is a car service for crying out loud...right? In any case, quite a few times I ended up waiting 30 additional minutes for my husband to pick me up instead. "Safe ride" fee is added to transactions. I've been charged $1 and $2.30 per trip. This fee doesn't show on your fare estimate but gets added to your final bill once you complete the ride. I don't feel it was disclosed prior to charging my cc. It's a hidden fee UBER's reply about "safe ride" fee "The Safe Rides Fee supports the operation of the uberX platform, including a background check process, development of safety features in the app, incident response, and other operational costs." So basically we pay the fare and all the cost of UBER doing business Reviewing all my trips I've also noticed UBER always takes the longest route (most miles). This changes my perception of what I thought of UBER as being an environmentally friendly, saving resources, and saving money. By taking the longest route seems to be about making the most money I don't recommend UBER, find another way to get where you're going read more

Re-doing my review that was first down when Uber came to the area and surge pricing was out of hand. I use Lyft as my go-to but use Uber if no Lyft cars are in the area or prime pricing is in place. I have never had a problem with a driver except some go pretty slow and when you want to go a certain way the driver usually has no problem doing so. Uber is new here but flourishing! The way to get around the city. Friendly prompt drivers who offer a fun way to get where you are going when it is 19 degrees outside. Detroit is walk-able but not completely so. It reminds me of a smaller Los Angeles with respect to the need for a car. So, Uber lets you travel, wander, imbibe, and take in the locals and local flavor while comfortable, safe, and warm. Let's put it this way: I am from San Francisco and have never used Uber...I lost count of how many rides we took here in Detroit! Great service. Uber is pretty much changed the transportation game in Detroit. No $40 cabs from downtown to Ferndale.....only $15 with Uber! They are fast and reliable. They will pick you up anywhere in the city. read more

I've used Uber 2 times now. The first time was pretty good. Except for the rates were so jacked up, a $3 taxi ride because $30 (which is ridiculous since we went maybe a mile). The cab driver though was super nice, so we felt okay about helping him out with his new house and all the work that it needed. The second time was terrible! Uber told us that a taxi guy named Amen was on his way to pick us up. 2 minutes later I get a call from Amen and he asks where we are, and where we're going (not sure but I think that the app should have told him). After telling him what we were doing he told us that he was not going to be able to help us and we should go back into the app and cancel it because he refused to come. Thanks buddy for accepting it and then telling us that it was our responsibility to cancel. Terrible service. Most of the time we have terrible drivers (have friends with the same issues). Might as well just call a real taxi and help support them. read more

I voiced concern with Uber over the cleanliness and overall condition of the van that I was transported in and twice they haven't addressed it. From my understanding to be a Uber driver your vehicle must be newer that 10 years and inspected by a state certified mechanic, I'm certain neither are the case. read more

UBER can be useless in Detroit. Cabs can't find where you are or where they are going. Cabs come a half hour late. Drivers aren't familiar with basic neighborhoods (I.e. 'midtown.'). Customer service refuse to resolve issues and just take your $. I was dumped in a cabless part of town a half hour walk from my destination. Take a cab. read more

My first ride was free, and for me it was a pleasant experience. The driver came fast; his car was clean, and he was friendly. Everything is given upfront, and you can track the car. When the driver arrive they just sit and wait so you have to listen for the beep or watch out for them. I would call them any day over a regular cab. I didn't use them but 1 time so I really can't say how it is in the long run, but I would recommend trying them out. read more

So, this happened with me last week. I had 2 $30 promotions on my account, so I booked a ride. After I booked it, and a driver accepted it - I received a text message that Uber canceled the promotion. I canceled the ride, and then Uber charged me cancelation fee. I emailed Uber Support and asked that if they had to cancel why did they not do it before I booked the ride. In reply - I get no response. Someone by the name Angela Duarte responded saying they canceled it but didn't bother to tell the reason. I found out that a couple of my colleagues had the same experience. After checking the coverage areas and getting a rate quote I decided to be dropped off for a concert at DTE instead of driving. BIG mistake. I was never able to actually get a car to pick me up after about 20 request a few of which claimed to dispatch a car only to send me text indicating nothing was available. Not sure where I went wrong. Needless to say I ended up calling a friend to pick me up. I needed a ride to the airport around 5AM. Do I call a cab? No, I pull up the Uber app on my iPhone and put in a request for Uber to come pick me up. Within ten minutes I am whisked away in the Honda that rolls up to the house. While waiting to be picked up, I could see real time location of the Uber driver. I knew exactly when he was to arrive. You even have the option to text or call the designated Uber driver if you please. So off we go in the Uber ride to the airport. The driver was a college student, a nice guy who worked Uber on the side. His car was clean but it had some engine noise as soon as we hit the highway. It was annoying but I could not complain since the cost was half of what a taxi would have cost. After the ride is complete, you pay for your ride on the spot within the app. You can rate the driver and the driver also rates the passenger. Uber is a great concept and I am a fan. read more

This service is by far the best transportation service in Detroit. Cabs are unreliable, dirty, and risky. Uber has always picked me up within 15 minutes of my requesting a car, all the drivers are lovely, and I have always felt safe (which is important as a young woman). read more

I accidently left my phone in the Uber car last night and my driver took the phone and tried to pawn it. Uber is not willing to do anything about it. While I understand that they are not responsible for lost or stolen items but I didn't think they would want someone like that driving for them. I guess I was wrong. Our driver arrived as promptly as possible with the insane amount of building and construction going on in Detroit, and he was polite and friendly. Love the convenience of the app and not having to handle cash. I have used Uber in Ann Arbor. If you are on or near campus it is easier to get a ride. Uberx is usually the most readily available. Most drivers are from Detroit and surrounding areas, so they rely on the app's directions which are not always the fastest or least expensive routes. My biggest turn off is the customer service department. If you have an issue, be prepared to wait 2-3 days for an email response, as they do not have a customer service phone number. On the upside, most drivers are prompt and courteous. read more
