Dependable, reasonably priced, clean, and pleasant. What more can you ask for in a cab? I got a coupon for $6 off from my hotel (Microtel), so the final price was about $50 (before tip -- note that there is a $1-$2 credit card fee). The scheduler on the phone was extremely efficient and pleasant, and the cab driver arrived on time and even called to let me know she was outside. The cab itself was clean and well-maintained, and I had a very nice chat with the personable driver. I got from UMich N. campus to DTW in 28 minutes, absolutely no hitches. Better than the nearly $70 I paid for Metro Cab. I'd definitely recommend this service if you are looking for airport or taxi service around Ann Arbor, especially if you're doing research at UMich -- they know their way around campus. read more

We used Green cab for 3 weeks this past summer. Drivers Jerry and John were great. However, the cabs only picked up the person coming to our house on time about 1/2 of the time, even when we scheduled several days in advance. One wait was 1 hr and 45 min late, not the driver's fault. read more

Please do not utilize this cab company. I called 5 hours early and left specific instructions for pickup. I was provided a number of a driver that did not work. As I was trying to get to the airport, promptness is essential. The first cab never showed up. They said they would send another cab (at this point 15 min late) - the driver never confirmed. I was cautiously optimistic after I read the reviews. I figured that the people most likely to leave reviews were the ones who had a bad experience, not a pleasant one. So, I called a week in advance to make a 4:15 am reservation from my house to the airport. I was told for $10 more we could get a minivan, which seemed necessary considering we had 4 adults and luggage, a Prius just might not cut it. At 3:15 am on the day of our vacation, I got a call from the company saying that they couldn't find their driver. YOU HAD ONE JOB! She offered to send 2 cars instead, but that would have cost twice the price. She wasn't willing to cut me a break or provide any kind of a discount. She never really even apologized. Luckily I was able to get everyone to the airport on time by driving them myself, but it was a bummer way to start our vacation. You're a cab company. Maybe consider keeping better tabs on your employees. read more

"Dude, what's this?" "Dude, what's that mean?" "Dude, why's it doing that?" "Dude, what are you doing there?" "SHUUUUT UUUUUP!!!!!" -- Is the way I would have expected any normal taxi driver to act after the barrage of questions I gave him during my first experience in a hybrid vehicle. But he didn't. He was totally cool and he explained the entire system (there's a screen that shows the energy being used and stored to the battery) and was very patient while my drunk brain cells tried to piece together the concepts. It was a VERY clean car, he was right on time and we really enjoyed it. So much so that I called back when we got home and told them that it was a great taxi experience. Who's ever heard of such a thing? Side note, the auto industry is getting hosed by environmental people who don't know the truth of the matter, that it's responsible for about 14% of carbon emissions. Coal burning is responsible for 80%! 80!!! Yet anytime Good Morning America does a stupid story on how you should use recycled batteries for your vibrator they say it's equivalent to taking "100,000 cars off the road!" Which actually accounts for less carbon emissions than your cigarette. I'm NOT saying we don't have a moral responsibility to do everything we can (even if it includes driving hybrid or electrical) to lower emissions, I just think the research needs to be done and the TRUTH needs to be out there, as opposed to picking on the lowest hanging fruit... the auto companies. read more

I have used Green Cabs a few times. Always prompt. Always polite. Always clean. I was impressed. Sometimes cab rides can be awkward, but I've never had that problem with MGC. The drivers have been very friendly and make nice conversation. We used them for transport to and from a "girls night out" and the same driver was able to come back and pick us up. Just took the cab from downtown Ann Arbor to Detroit Metro airport.. Total cost was $64 with tip (approximately $5 more than the regular cab I took from the airport to the my hotel in Ann Arbor). My gripes were: 1. Driver's driving was super jerky with harsh stops 2. He didn't seem like he knew where he was going even though it was just the airport. I had told the operator that it was to the airport so you would think that he would look up directions beforehand... 3. It literally took 10+ minutes to pay him (he had to write it down on a piece of paper, use an old school credit card swipe machine, calculate the cost based on miles on his dashboard, then input it into his computer, have me sign the paper, calculate hte tip, swipe the card...) Can we say completely inefficient? Good thing I got to the airport early. 4. No meter used it was purely based on what he saw on his dashboard which was irritating considering it seems like he was lost just getting out of downtown ann arbor and drove around in circles 5. $2.20 credit card fee, jeez even the regular cab wouldn't charge for this! Nothing special about this cab service, for efficiency and your sanity, I'd suggest just sticking with a regular cab like the metro cab I took from the airport into town. At least there you can tell for sure whether the meter is accurate and there's no CC fee! read more

The cab company that tries to leave a small carbon foot print has won me over. The cars are clean and newer, which is a nice change of pace for many cab companies in Metro Detroit and else where. There is a flat fare for service to the Airport, so you can budget for it... though my fare is covered on my expense report, I try not to stick it to the Company (all the time).. I have taken Michigan Green Cabs to the airport several times in the past year. Thanks to some very nice cab drivers there service has always been very good. And then I asked them to pick me up at Metro Airport... I scheduled my pick up a week in advance. I called back to confirm it. They called me at the airport to say where he would pick me up. And it went downhill from there. He wasn't there. I called. They said he was a few minutes late. I called again and couldn't get through. I called again and got their overflow operator. The airport was very crowded and the TMobile service was spotty. The call dropped. He finally showed up 20 minutes late and then I was told we had to walk out to the garage. We ended up leaving the airport 35 minutes late. When I called back again, their operator yelled at me for "hanging up" on her. As we got back to Birmingham he proceeded to tell me I had to pay $10 for parking at Metro Airport for his cab. What???? They miss that one on their website. Bottomline is that the service was lousy and the price exorbitant. Michigan Green Cabs is a good idea that is failing over poor administration. read more

Used them on NYE 2010 and they got us to where they were going. Cab was clean, driver was friendly, and loved the online booking.. didn't need to talk to anyone. They were close to getting 4 stars, and even 5 stars isn't far off, but there were a few things worth mentioning. None of them by themselves is huge. 1- The driver was about 5 or 10 minutes late. No big deal- hey, it was New Years eve, I was happy to get service, and I left plenty of time to get where we were going. But its worth noting. 2- We don't use cabs as much in the Motor City, so I'm not all that familiar with rates and such, nor did I "officially monitor" the distance we traveled etc. But $12 bucks seemed like a lot to go about 2 miles (with tip, like $16). Again, I'm not really complaining.. it's worth the convenience and being safe. Maybe it's more on holidays? 3- Communication could have been a tad better. I did like that you could book online, that's the primary reason I chose them, but other than an email (which didn't really read like a confirmation email), I wasn't 100% sure they were coming. A phone call maybe saying a driver was on the way would have probably been nice (again, I don't use cabs a lot, not sure what to expect). If you use them, don't expect much more than that email if you book online. 4- I mentioned to the driver we'd need a ride back, and if we wanted the fare, what would be the best time to call. He said 2am was a crap shoot, but anytime around 1 or 1:30 would be no problem. He gave me his card, and I text him about 4 hours later at 1am to see if 1:30am worked for him. He text back Yes, no problem, and never showed. It wasn't an "official" booking, but I thought it was a little lame- especially when he was 10 minutes late and I passed on another cab offering a ride because I didn't want to screw the guy. Getting another cab wasn't that easy, there were surprisingly few passing by at 3rd and Main, and I all of the sudden understood why people in this town don't like cabs (getting a cab on Main street was what we had to do, but a block away it was like they didn't exist). Delayed about 1.5 hours on my trainride home, I told my ride to go to sleep. And I looked up Green Cabs on Yelp. The taxi was there waiting for me, and my train arrived 5 minutes earlier than I'd told the guy on the phone. The driver was very nice, and got me home in one piece, in a hybrid. Want to like, but not happy with customer service. Background info: I travel weekly so I am quite familiar with using car services. My experience is why I use Metro Cars or other black car services and will go back to it. The ONLY reason they get 2 stars is b/c of the polite woman I spoke with on my initial call. Booking online was easy... of course - they want the business - but there wasn't an option to pay with a credit card and I didn't want to get stuck when they showed up not being able to do so. So I called and booked on the phone with a very pleasant woman. No problems. I was going from Livonia to the airport early on a Tuesday morning for a flight. My pickup was scheduled for 4:45 a.m. 4:55 comes around and no one is there so I called dispatched. The RUDE guy on the phone says the driver will be there in a minute... I said "he's already 10 minutes late", and he repeated that the driver would be there in a minute... Really? That's all you have to say? I've never had a late driver with any other car service... NEVER, and I've been using them for 12 years for weekly travel. Not an apology or explanation or anything. Then the driver arrives and goes past the house, stops at the house next door while I'm standing in the driveway (of a corner house) waiving my arms and jumping around so he can see me... Nothing. He drives around the cul-de-sac and looks like he's about to leave and then finally spots me... there are 6 houses in this court and we're on the corner... is this guy stoned?? Then he sits in the car on his phone, with who I assume was the dispatcher telling him I'm pissed, all while I'm standing in the freezing snow, and THEN slowly puts his hat and gloves on.... Again, I ask: is this guy stoned or just trying to make me angrier? Finally, he slowly gets out of the car and by then I'm opening the trunk and putting in my own luggage. Finally I get in the car and in my rage I'm not sure I remember all that occurred, but after expressing my frustrating that I have a flight to catch, he says "sorry for being a couple minutes late"... I said "a couple minutes, you were over 10 minutes late". I thanked him for the apology and he said that he came from Royal Oak when he was dispatched, but is that my fault? Finally getting dropped off at the airport, knowing I'm on a time crunch, he again, slowly put on his hat and got out of the car. Based on his stoner demeanor, I chose to withhold the tip, which I NEVER do, and told him to take it up with his dispatcher. As other reviewers have stated, they just didn't seem to give a rat's ass that anyone has a schedule to keep. Too bad. I drive a Prius myself and would have loved to save the environment. Back to Metro Cars who also have fuel-efficient, environmentally-friendly vehicles and are on time! read more

Great driver, with a great attitude, was very easy going to joke around with a couple drunk guys lol. I have had pleasant experiences with them before, but no more. On Saturday we had gone to a furniture store, and came outside to a puddle of antifreeze. I called for a tow truck, and then called for a cab for everyone else to get home. The tow truck arrived, and while I was dealing with the minivan being loaded onto the flatbed, the taxi driver called, and I missed the call since tow trucks are loud. This is where it gets worse. Sitting in the tow truck, I realized I missed a call, and no voice mail was left. I call it back, it was the taxi driver. He said that since I didn't answer, he decided I didn't need a cab and went on to the next fare. I said that's crap, my kids are stranded at the furniture store with their mom and they need a ride ASAP! Meanwhile, she calls looking for a status update on the cab, and received extremely rude service from the dispatcher. Then, two taxi drivers call her to tell her they'll be there. Then she gets a call from the dispatcher telling her that she was messing things up! Get organized, people! In short, I rode with the tow truck to the shop, sat at the shop while it was being repaired (which is very impressive for a Saturday), received the minivan and drove home. When I pulled into the driveway after several hours, I received a text stating the taxi had finally arrived. We decided not to cancel the cab since they would have probably screamed at us even more due to their incompetence. I would never use them again and I highly recommend you avoid them until their get their act together. read more

By all means, order Michigan Green Cabs in Ann Arbor if you're not going anywhere on time! The first time I ordered one in Ann Arbor, it arrived and took me where I needed to go. The second time my daughter and I ordered one and were kept waiting 15 minutes beyond the appointed time. Finally, after I called dispatch again, the cab arrived. The last time I called 3 hours in advance, stating I was going to the airport and wanted to make sure I would catch my flight. A woman took my order for 12:45 pm and all seemed fine. Then the time came and went. At 12:50 I called dispatch to inquire. I was told that it would arrive "soon." When I asked what "soon" meant, she said that the driver was out on another run and would arrive in 30 minutes! She said this without any apology, like this was the most natural thing in the world. When I voiced my disbelief that they would take an order for a concrete time, not call that they couldn't stick to the schedule, pretend that "soon" could mean 30 minutes, and not even apologize, the only thing she had to say, "I wasn't the one who took your order." So their dispatchers don't even take responsibility for the mistreatment of customers by the company, have no qualms about sending cabs on another run when they've already committed them to be elsewhere, and don't even try to problem solve. Of course, I canceled my order and I'll never use them again. I'm saddened though that a company that advertises itself as "green" can have such pathetic customer service philosophy. read more

This review concerns one cab driver who dropped off my friend's sister at Mittenfest in Ypsilanti. This driver went above and beyond his duties by giving her a Michigan Green Cabs card with his personal cell phone number on it, attempting to take things further than simply getting from point A to point B. Despite being politely declined, he proceeded to go into the venue and try hovering around her just before the new year hit. Had my friend and I not been there to watch out for her, I'm not sure what the driver would have ended up trying. Upon asking if she was okay with me posting this review, she added that, "I had a different very nice, non-creepy driver take me home. I think people do need to be warned about that guy. That could have been a bad situation and I really appreciate you guys standing up for me." I reported this incident to the company, and they were very apologetic and sincere in their determination to address the issue. With that said, I hope this one incident does not dissuade anyone from choosing Michigan Green Cabs outright. Just keep in mind that whatever company you choose, you're still getting into a car with a stranger. read more

I called for a ride at 5:00 pm. Google Maps lists my pickup location as 13 minutes from the Green Cabs Carpenter Rd office; my destination was 1.8 miles from my pickup location. I was told they were busy and I would have to wait over an hour before they would arrive to pick me up. I scheduled the transaction and waited, and waited, and waited. A car arrived at 8:20 pm to pick me up. The drivers are friendly, excellent drivers, and the company uses hybrid cars so it is good for the environment. I am disabled so I travel by cab a lot. I write with special attention to Ryan T, owner, who here on yelp took a whiny tone about customers who leave bad reviews and "throw the company under the bus." I've been using MGC exclusively for years, and, Ryan, I'd like to respond. This is the nature of the service, the expensive service, you provide. Much like our newspaper delivery, for example, we mostly do not express thanks when it appears on time; we do complain when the paper doesn't come. It can be serious trouble when, without warning, our airport ride doesn't appear. I have had some good , some ok, and some bad experiences with MGC, but today's was the worst. At the appointed time for my cab to arrive to take me to the airport, I got a call from the driver who was at least 45 minutes away. No other cab was available. Neither the woman who mans the phone nor the driver apologized . And actually, the driver took me to task , criticizing me for not allowing enough time for the trip. It's interesting how many unhappy customers here on Yelp mention the lack of apology or willingness to make financial adjustments/concessions. I really have tried to support this company because it uses Hybrid cars. After my last trip, no more. I had reserved pickups for my last trip out of town and there were problems going both ways. When leaving the cab driver was looking for me in Manchester Mi despite the fact that I live near Downtown Ann Arbor. When we were created more by back, after even confirming they would be there, they did not show up and no call. When I called to inquire, the dispatcher seemed to blamed the no show on me. They said they would send another cab and that car didn't show up either. I was stranded with my kid at night. Like I said, I really wanted to use this cab company and support cab companies over Uber, but service like this makes it very difficult. read more

They pick my father Inlaw with dementia up 3 days a week to drop him off for coffee. They've been great and responsive and when they're not going to be on time or a few early they've even let me know. That's a 6:30am pick up too. So I'd say all in all they do a fine job. read more

I went to Michigan this past weekend for a friend's wedding and someone at the hotel I was staying at recommended Green Cabs. I was arriving in Ann Arbor on the Amtrak train, which was scheduled to arrive at 5:45. I called and scheduled a cab to come pick me up around 5:50. Unbeknownst to me, the train was running late. I first received a call from the can driver letting me know that he was already at the station. I apologized profusely about being late, told him that I was on a train and hoped to get there soon. I then received a call around 6:00 from the dispatcher asking me where I was. I explained my situation again, that I was on a late train and I had no idea when I would arrive. The dispatcher was curt and rude and told me that he couldn't let his drivers just wait because they were "extremely busy." The cab driver then called me and told me that since he had "nothing else to do," he would just wait for me at the station, which I thought was very kind of him. Until I actually arrived at the station and couldn't find my cab. I called the driver, who said that he actually had to go somewhere else -- thanks for letting me know and leaving me stranded. All cab services in Michigan are outrageous! I never travel without my car but this particular day I had an emergency and needed a lift home from work. They were somehow the ONLY cab service available and I guess it was a busy Tuesday? If that makes sense because the earliest a driver could come was one and a half hour after my call. Obviously they never showed and I had to call again, when the driver finally came his vehicle was disgusting and he picked up empty beer cans from the console and tossed it at a trash can. I insisted on sitting in the back seat praying the beer was from a previous passenger and not because my driver had a few. I used to live in NY and have dealt with all kinds of cab driver and somehow the cab services in Michigan can't measure up to the level of professionalism that the average manhattan non English speaking (not that it's a problem) cab driver possesses. Staying at The Met hotel for work this week and the hotel recommended Michigan Green Cabs as a local cab service. Called them to take me to a CVS to get cold medicine and then return me to the hotel. They were 15 minutes late picking me up and then LEFT ME AT THE CVS!!! When I called to find out what was going on the woman told me that The Townsend hotel was her priority and hung up on me. We really wanted to like this company because they use hybrid cars, but they are just not working out. They were ok the first couple times -- sometimes a few minutes late -- then recently, I used them on the way back from the airport and the guy was on time, though he didn't help me with my bag at all (though I was 6 months pregnant) and also wanted me to play the movie I was watching on my computer through his car radio so he could hear too -- which was kind of weird since he was driving. Anyhow, I can deal with slightly weird, but they totally screwed us over this last time -- my husband had to catch a early morning flight and made an advance taxi appointment for 7am. They called ~7, saying they couldn't get anyone until 8am, then they called and said they could be there in 15 minutes, and 20 minutes later when he called them back they said it would be another 20 minutes.... he ended up taking our car (which left me work-stranded) and thankfully made his flight by the skin of his teeth -- they were boarding when he was in the security line. Got stuck behind a cab after work on a one lane road in Canton. Driver 453 decided to do 25 in a 45 causing a backup. After I used a turn lane to get around he flipped on his hi beams and finally sped up. I hope the lights that he used to blind me illuminated the bird I sent his way. Absolutely the worst cab service in the Detroit area. Some friends and I needed a ride home from the bar one night, and we were being driven about 1 mile away (we would have walked but it was 2am and freezing and snowing). The cab driver was late, initially drove right by me on the curb as I was waving to him, and I had to call them again and tell them that he missed picking me up. When we were finally inside of the cab, it smelled like food and BO, and the driver was wearing a filthy dirt/food/grease stained shirt. Immediately he began telling us of how cops in Ferndale are so terrible, and how they've given him multiple impeding traffic violations and wreckless driving tickets. So naturally, we felt INCREDIBLY uncomfortable being in a car with this guy. When we arrived at our destination, he told us we owed $12. For a 1 mile ride. He never even turned on a meter, so basically, he pulled $12 cost out of his ass, and figured since we came from a bar we'd probably be too drunk to notice the price hike or argue with him. I drive a Prius myself, and I know how LITTLE gas that Prius cab used to drive us one mile. I have taken MANY cabs from that exact location to my house MANY times and have never been charged over $6. This service is a disgrace to "green" companies, the Detroit area, and to responsible people who choose to take cabs instead of driving home after drinking. read more

Amazing experience! Great price and even better service. When I called to reserve a cab they told me the first and last name of the driver who would be picking us up. They called two minutes before arriving and were exactly on time! When they came to take us home at the end of the night they had bottled water waiting for us in the car. This cab company is fantastic! I was recently in MI and left a bag in the cab. The owner of the cab company and the cab driver actually found me to return my bags to me. My bags contained extremely valuable items-iPad/Camera etc. I was so thankful and surprised to find such honest people. What rare traits in today's crazy times! This is my new favorite cab company.
