Three hours later we called, and the original cab company told us they do not do pick ups in Detroit, which is only 5 miles south of where we started in Royal Oak. The bartender called metropolitan cab, they were there in less than 5 minutes, and charged 1/2 of what the original cab driver charged. I will now use metropolitan cab every time. They even go and pick up a child's car seat from my parent's house so that I don't have to travel with one from the US, and then he returns it to them after our outbound journey. At first I was curious as to why their prices were a little bit higher than another guy i called, but then I found out it's because he is fully properly insured with his taxi license in both US and Canada. That means the other guys don't carry any insurance in the US, and that is just not worth it for me, especially when traveling with my family. I prefer to work with a company that is above-board and runs their business honestly. They certainly go the extra mile.

When I said I would not he started to call me names and told me I am a bum. I kept explaining that my friend would be there soon as it was her break, but he just kept yelling. When I tried to report him to the cab company an uninterested dispatch said I needed to call the city to make a complaint, no apology or empathy. Needless to say my friend paid the cab but I will not be taking Checker again and will be reporting that cab driver to the city for his behaviour.

The scheduler on the phone was extremely efficient and pleasant, and the cab driver arrived on time and even called to let me know she was outside. The cab itself was clean and well-maintained, and I had a very nice chat with the personable driver. I got from UMich N. campus to DTW in 28 minutes, absolutely no hitches. Better than the nearly $70 I paid for Metro Cab.
