If you live in a part of Baltimore that is not a frequent draw for cabs, Uber is a godsend. And now, with the addition of UberX, I can get a cheaper ride. The addition of UberSUV has helped my boyfriend and all his music equipment get home from gigs safely. I love that I don't have to carry cash (it's automatically charged to your card), that I know who is coming for me (as opposed to a random person in a yellow car) and that it is all tracked by GPS. After one Uber experience that was fine, but a little too long because the driver did not know where he was going and took us on a roundabout route, I said so in my review of the driver. The NEXT day I was contacted by the corporate officers and given a full refund and an apology. Now that's service! Uber will definitely have my continued business. Ubers' Customer support is horrible. I have been an outstanding driver for Uber since 2016 and I am appalled by the customer care for this company. I cannot even begin to explain how many times I had to go through multiple agents to help me with an issue. One time, one of them couldn't update my vehicle properly, wasting a WHOLE day of earning a living. I am a full-time driver and I take it seriously. In recent events, I am aware of the recording laws in my state and I was just trying to update the information about my dash camera. I had to go through 3 agents because not one of them had the decency to tell me that I was able to go into my settings and update it. All of them literally told me to contact the manufacturer of my dashcam when I stated clearly that I am trying to edit my information to the uber app. I even went as far as showing them a screenshot of what it says on Uber's site about video recording and registering the camera, and still, I had no proper compliance. The majority of the agents have no clue what the guidance rules are for uber nor understand proper English. Please do something about this. read more

Uber Sucks! Last night Jackie, Barbara, and some other teenage friends were at City Line Bar & Grill, in Baltimore, less than 2-miles from Jackie's home. Jackie and I didn't drive because we knew we'd be drinking and we didn't have a designated driver, so I downloaded the Uber and Lyft apps to my iPhone. I setup both with accounts before we left for the bar so we'd be all set when we were ready to leave for the night. I've never used Uber or Lyft, but knew it was the way to go for a sober, cheap way home. Around 1:00 AM, I tapped the Uber app to setup a ride. The app automatically pinpointed where we were and requested the destination which I typed-in. Three options popped-up with estimated costs; an economy, standard, and luxury option. There were just two of us, so the only option I was interested in was the economy. The estimated cost was a whopping $92.00, for a less than 2-mile ride of approximately 6-minutes of drive time. I almost fell out of my chair. I was floored! When I told Jackie, she couldn't believe it and thought something was wrong. The app displayed the map of the route from where we were to our destination; there was no mistake. The standard and luxury option costs skyrocketed all the way up-to $237.00. I told Jackie to forget it, that I'd walk the distance before I'd pay $92.00 for a 1.3-mile drive. So I tapped on the Lyft app. The app provided more options for the ride, depending on the type of vehicle you wanted such as 2-door, 4-door, sedan, suv, luxury, etc. I choose the basic vehicle. The estimated cost was $6-$8 with a drive time of 6-minutes. Of course, I selected it, put my thumbprint on my iPhone, paying for the ride automatically with my credit card. The app showed a picture of the driver and his vehicle, in addition to a little map of where his vehicle was in approximation to where we were; 4-minutes away. The driver arrived, who was very friendly and professional, and drove us back to Jackie's house safely and securely. We exited the vehicle and thanked the driver for the ride. I didn't know how to tip the driver or if it was included. When we went inside, I received an email immediately from Lyft thanking me for using their services, in addition to an option to be able to tip the driver by tapping circles indicating $0, $2, $5, $10, and so on. My suggestion to you, if you don't have a designated driver, is to download both apps to your mobile phone and compare prices before selecting one or the other for your ride home. I doubt Uber will get any future business from me, based on last night's experience. read more

Uber in general was cool and convenient when they first came out but they have definitely went WAY downhill in their operations. Recently my friend and I took an Uber ride from Baltimore to Hanover--a 14 mile car ride, which took 25 minutes. The application did say that the fare would be doubled; however, never were we notified that the fare would be almost quadrupled (3.8). Had we known this we would have never taken the ride since that made our bill almost 300% more than the original cost of $63. Charging someone 280% more because Uber experiences little to no market competition is absolutely ridiculous, and saying that Uber implements a surge charge "to ensure we had rides available for those who needed them," implies that the company is doing this for our benefit (another misleading component to this total experience). Never were we required to accept a 3.8 surge, and never did we have to retype the surge amount as confirmation. In fact, the only time we heard the number 3.8 was when our driver, Salim, blatantly told my friend that her "customer rating" is a 3.8... A component to Uber we neither didn't know existed nor wanted to hear. A doubled rate is a little more within the realm of acceptable; however, a $242 basically cab ride in a black Chevrolet is ludicrous and makes me never want to do business with Uber ever again. read more

Be careful! Deceptive! Customer support not really interested in helping ("Deb" wrote back a few times but conveniently avoided the issue and my direct questions.) I had a good first time trip from the airport BWI (call it point A) to the hotel in College Park (point B) for $42. Seemed like a fair price. The next day I booked the same trip in reverse ie point B to point A exactly. There was no warning that it may be a surge price. There was no difference in the mileage and it was not rush hour. And it cost $76!! The same trip! Their customer support said that it was a flat rate, but would not answer why the flat rate was twice the non flat rate or how they propose I had selected the flat rate. I did not and why would I anticipate that the same trip would be twice as much? If that is not deceptive then I don't know what is. Perhaps they are driven by the 20% I am told they get fro the driver. All I asked for was a rational reason! Another option is to consider "flightcar". Since I was leery of using uber again I tried this innovative service and it was MUCH less expensive. Try them! Used Uber several times and rated the drivers high, tipped well and were satisfied. The last successful trip we were dropped off at the Horseshoe. Then scheduled an Uber at the same spot for pickup. After waiting and waiting the driver called and said that she could not pick up there. After we had been dropped in that spot and there was clear signage for Uber and Lyft. I have used uber several times before and had a great experience but after last night I may never use them again. My driver Tajudeen came within minutes and I was waiting for him at my front door. He was nice at first but got upset as soon as I told him that where I was going required him to leave the city and get on 83. He canceled my original trip, did something to raise his rate, and then told me to open the app again and request a car. Problem is I was already charged $15 for the first trip that only took me 1 block. During the ride he starting telling me how I better be careful of how I tip him because when I get out of the car the drivers ways give a star rating to the customer. He said if I don't tip him well he won't give me 5 stars and if I go down to a 4 star rating no one will want to pick me up in the future. He was almost threatening. When we arrived for me to be dropped off he had the door locked and turned around and told me to get my phone out and open the uber app again. He would not let me out until I showed him that I have him a 5 star rating and a tip. He then gave me a no star rating unlocked the door and barely waited for me to get out before he drove away. They are definitely fast but when they surge your ride you pay big time. I pulled it up and it said in order to put more ubers on the street your ride will be x1.4, caused me $3.91 more. I did it another day it said x1.2. I was just seeing how many were in the area before I got off work. When I got off I opened the app and it said the offer expired its now x2,0. The driver I had I never want to see again. He insisted on using his gps instead of going the route I chose. He kept his eyes on the gps as if he just moved to Baltimore. My experiences using Uber in Baltimore and DC have always been pleasant. I've had amazing drivers. I don't have a single complaint. The cars always show up fast. And I've never been tricked/duped or overcharged. I use Uber when my girls and I want to hit the town and none of us feel like being a designated driver. Uber has made my city more accessible to me and I love it! The only gripe I have is when surge pricing is occurring, but it's understandable. Business is business. (Had to repost my google review on yelp) I am Very disappointed driving for Uber and with the way "support" services handle situations with riders. I have been avoiding going online for the fear that a passenger will do something else in my car that I will responsible for. The riders have virtually no responsibility as far as leaving things in the car or vomiting in your vehicle. We are then inconvenienced and forced to go offline to return items or forced with being responsible for the cleaning of another persons bodily fluids because pictures aren't able to pick up clear fluids on a light colored car; nor can they show the disinfecting that is necessary for the health and safety of future passengers. They also don't allow people to add tips through the app even if it's an UberEATS delivery. I'm going to try Lyft instead. read more
