He also brought home some delicious leftovers, which his brother and sister enjoyed trying. It was a great way for him to celebrate the end of the school year. I would highly recommend for anyone looking for opportunities to expose your child to trying favorite foods in new ways. Side note: The kids classes might seem pricey, but honestly, they are priced just right. After thinking about it, a two hour drop-off class with plenty of food and skills to be shared, $45 is very reasonable. The cost does vary depending on the food theme (cost of supplies).

She had a cheese , fruit and meat platter set out for appetizers. There were 9 of us so we were divided into one group of 4 and the other group of five. She demonstrated how to use a knife, how to mince garlic , how to make a tomato sauce, how to make a oil sauce and how to make ravioli dough. One group made a cheese,herb and garlic filling. The other group made a mushroom and prosciutto filling. She demonstrated how to use the Kitchen Aide pasta attachment. Next we we filled the ravioli and used the pasta cutter to make ravioli. She cooked them and she had a catering line to serve the pasta with a salad. They were delicious. Cute building on the Main Street of East Aurora. Nicely decorated inside. You definitely should try this place for catering or an event!!!

This year the tomatoes were a mess, but the kale and broccoli worked fairly well. Next year will be better I'm sure. Meanwhile, on to the review. I attended one of her cooking classes out at the Newman Center at UB. Skinnerville road or something like that. Thank goodness for GPS. The class featured a quinoa salad (similar to one I make at home already, but with some great additions, liked spiced cashews (YUM YUM YUM!) and pomegranate seeds, in season right now). Then there was a date concoction that seemed like dessert to me, but pretty much anything with a balsamic reduction can be a dessert. Some version of potato latkes, made with sweet potatoes rounded out the offerings. I wasn't part of making those and while I enjoyed eating them (you get to eat after the cooking!), cant comment much further. Its all vegetarian, and I'm pretty sure this meal was vegan as well, but not positive. Her website has a ton of great recipes, all plant based, and she presents them in a chatty and engaging way. I am looking forward to more of her classes. Very hands on, we all helped on various dishes. Shes pretty informal, so asks the class to divide themselves up. She does stop class throughout to share "helpful info, tricks, methods etc" that all will benefit from. And she almost sold me on a vitamix, but for now my Ninja is holding strong. If you already cook well and want to move to more vegetarian fare, her classes and website are a great place to look. The principle at that time was Terry Wolfenden…read more It used to be called Dunkirk Junior High School, but they changed the name a few years before I went to emphasize the middle school years were a separate stage of child/student development, worthy of its own name, and not just a high school but "junior". All in all, I can say that I received a somewhat rigorous education here, with some exceptions. Students of all abilities were grouped into the same class. It didn't compare to more wealthy school districts or to boarding/day schools, but for a small, rural town, it was good. And of couese, it doesn't compare to schooling nowadays, where younger and younger students are taught more advanced concepts. We were still doing arithmetic in seventh grade and didn't fully start a foreign language until eighth grade. I am a little miffed now that lunch breaks back then were only one-half of a period, so 20 minutes. We really had to rush to line up and then eat our lunches, especially if you were at the end of the line. Another time, the lunch supervisor made the entire lunchroom (about 100 students) stay after school to punish us because just a few students were being unruly. This was not fair to us, and I missed a student council meeting because of this. All of us also all were required to attend vocational classes like metal shop, sewing, cooking, and woodshop even in the eighth grade, even though some were in the college-bound track. This is what the classes were for college-track students: 6th grade (9 periods of 40 minutes each): English Social Studies (I forget what) Math (arithmetic) Science Reading Vocational (woodshop, metal/plastic shop, art, sewing, cooking, library skills) Spelling (called "Achievement")/Lunch Music/P.E. Activity period 7th Grade (9 periods of 40 minutes each): English Social Studies (local history: NY State, Chautauqua County, and City of Dunkirk) Math (advanced intensive arithmetic) Science/Health Reading/tour of German, Spanish, and French to see what you liked best Vocational (art, either woodshop or metal/plastic show, either sewing or cooking) Spelling (called "Achievement")/Lunch Music/P.E.
