I used U-Pack (ABF Freight) to move my mom's furniture from ABQ to HOU. I was anticipating an ordeal and a possible cluster F. However, things could not have gone more smoothly. It was a breeze from beginning to end. The U-Pack folks at the point of origin in Albuquerque were very efficient. I emailed them a map of where to go, and followed up with a phone call, and they came and dropped the cube off on-time and exactly where I needed it. I loaded it up with some help from family, called U-Pack and they picked it up the next day. It took about a week to get to Houston. The folks at U-Pack in Houston were also very efficient and friendly. I called and they came out the next day and dropped the cube off, again, on-time and in a place that was perfect for me to unload it into my garage. I let them know that I was done, and they came a few days later and took the cube away. Easy as pie. Lastly, the price was right. They were significantly less expensive than the other container company (Pods). Some things to help... - good communication is important, don't be afraid to call them - someone has to be there to accept delivery of the cube at either end, but you don't have to be there for them to pick it up at either end - follow their videos about packing. You have to go vertical to get the most out of the space provided. - be sure to use lots of padding. I used a lot of old cardboard boxes and got a big roll of bubble wrap. I also used some old blankets and towels. - I also used some small ratcheting tie downs inside. Inside the cube are lots of rails in the walls with slots to attach tie downs. Careful packing, padding and tie downs helped everything arrive pretty much just as I packed it. I didn't have any damages. This experience was so smooth that I will likely use these guys again in the future, should I need to do a small or a large move. Good luck. read more

Better communication between the person moving and what hiring a trailer will require. I am 75 years old, the trailer was up off the ground! When it arrived there was no place to park it. It had to be parked two blocks away. Which required me to rent a u-haul to move my things from the truck to my house. It cost me so much money for the extra time for the movers and the extra truck! The trailer only had my things in it but they charged an extra $1000 for the added space I used. Everything shifted in the truck/trailer. I complained to them that I had been misled and the order was totally wrong. I should have not used the trailer! Horrible and very expensive move. They didn't care. Choice was between U-pack and other box company. Many website review stated if you have lot of stuffs then U-pack was it. They drop off the trailer on time. Approximate drop off time was between 8AM to Noon. The trailer came around 10AM. Because I live close to their office they came by same day to pickup the trailer. I highly recommend hiring a moving company to load your stuffs. I was able to load over 100+ boxes in 2 hours of time I contracted. The plywood wall that separate your stuff from others are HEAVY. You will definitely need at least one other person to lift and lock it up. All these reviewers are correct. They are efficient and good at delivering service. read more

We've moved several times since 2000. this was by far the easiest move we've done. The truck arrived on time, was picked up on time, arrived at the end with choice of delivery dates and times. We were given ample time to unload and the truck was picked up within hours. All the the people from dispatch to drivers were polite and helpful. The price was reasonable. I used u-pack For my move between New Mexico and Washington. I actually found the service to be very user-friendly. I called and spoke with a customer service representative who helped me decide which size trailer and how much space to reserve for my move. On the expected day of drop off a person showed up without any issue and dropped off the trailer. It stayed at my house until it was filled up and I called them on the same day that we completely moved everything into the truck and they came that same day to pick up the trailer. My trailer arrived and if arrived a few days before I expected it into Washington, however I was not there until a few days later and which I asked them to deliver it on the day that I wanted it. The trailer was delivered without issue at the planned time. Also the pick up was just as user-friendly. The trailer is only packed with your items. If it is transported across the country with other items that would otherwise be transported anyways along that route so it's only your personal items that are in the trailer. Some helpful advice: always make sure that there is a ramp inside the trailer before your driver leaves for both drop offs, and when it gets dropped off with your items inside the trailer ask the driver to remove the bulkhead before leaving (The partition). have your own lock to lock the trailer when it is sitting outside with or without your stuff to make sure nobody takes the ramp or your items when they're in the trailer. You will have to remove the lock when they take the trailer. This is a semi truck trailer that will need space to be parked. I had some great packed gravel driveway for the first leg of the trip, and for the delivery to my new home it was out in the street. It takes up about the size of a large truck in terms of width in the street. But it's probably the length of a large truck and small car that will need to be accommodated. read more

I used U-Pack for a move from Santa Fe NM to Denver CO after doing a lot of research on the various container (pod-type) companies and finding the most favorable reviews for this company and none of the negatives that some of the others had (water damage through the floor, etc.). I was going to need to store my household and studio in Denver until I could find a condo to buy in the area and for the price that I wanted. (I didn't realize that would take months and then more months of storage while I did renovation) So I was also looking for a decent storage price once the four loaded containers arrived at my destination. In the beginning as I was calling around to different companies to get quotes I noticed a definite difference in the professionalism quotient of U-Pack over some of the other companies. The person answering the phone (at all times) was professional, courteous and had the answers to my questions without having to 'go get somebody.' That alone instilled confidence in my decision. The communication was great from beginning to end. The storage facility in Denver was extremely accommodating (I had to have the containers moved over one at a time. They let me select the container I wanted and have it brought over on the day I specified and picked up when I called - like a concierge service) The entire move, including dealing with the storage once I arrived in Denver was excellent. I also hired their recommended movers to load me up in Santa Fe. They seemed quite professional at the time, but I didn't know exactly how professional until the containers were recently unloaded, nine months later. I wish I could remember the name of the people who loaded me up in Santa Fe so I could express my gratitude. The movers that were recommended in Denver for the first container, however, not so much, but then they had a very high bar of comparison. They weren't interested in much other than getting the stuff in as fast as possible, getting their money and getting out. There was no comparison with the ones in Santa Fe (I think they came out of Albuquerque). But, other than that, this move was as good as it gets (and I've done a few) and I would unequivocally recommend U-Pack to anyone. read more

I'm retired military and have moved more times than I can recall; I'm never doing this again! I want to start by mentioning that the truck drivers at ABF were great - both during pick-up as well as when they dropped my stuff off at the new address. If it hadn't been for them I would have been woefully ignorant of the "fine print" that I didn't read before deciding to do this. Also, they warned me of the serious safety hazards involved in using the trailer equipment! 1. I followed the advice of the website and got the trailer as I had more two bedroom's worth of stuff; that was pointless. I didn't even use 10% of the available space in the trailer. 2. When I made the reservation I didn't see any mention of reserving a certain amount of floor-space, but after I made the actual reservation I noticed it said I had reserved "7 feet" - don't know where that number came from. Fortunately the folks at ABF warned me of the additional fee for each additional foot of floor space used. They told me they had seen people miss that little gem more than once and pay tens of thousands more after their trailer had been picked up. I looked closer at the 9 pages of information U-Pack sent me and noticed they would charge me over $100.00 per additional foot of floor-space used. They don't use this trailer for anything else, so picture a huge trailer with a tiny bit of stuff crammed into a tiny slice of space at the very front (7 feet of floor space, stacked up about 12 feet high), then tons of empty space (21 feet of unused floor-to-ceiling space). I paid almost $3,000.00 for that. Last I checked, it was weight, not distribution of matter, that made a difference in fuel consumption. 3. The trailer floor is at chest-height and the ramp easily weighs a LOT (website says it weighs 140 lbs, but even the truck driver at my final destination said he thinks it's more than that). You have to drag that thing in and out of the trailer, hold up a large latch in a cumbersome location while swinging the legs of the ramp up, over, around and under the ramp (to lock them in place), then continue dragging it - until it hangs by a lip - over the edge of the trailer opening. If you think that's bad; wait until you have to pick it back off the ground and lift it back into the trailer - all while dealing with the latch and legs again! I sure felt my age; especially when I pitched forward while trying to return the ramp one time and having everything come crashing down on the ground. Almost knocked my teeth out on that ramp! 4. The bulkhead doors are a 2-man operation and the instructions (and pictures) do not fully explain how to operate the ratchet in them; this is where my Navy experience came in handy and I was able to close them with the hellp of a friend. 5. Remember how you had to schedule a date both for drop-off as well as for pick-up with U-Pack? Yeah, the truck drivers didn't get that word. Not at either end. They get the drop-off date, but you have to call them at least one working day before you want them to pick up the trailer. This actually worked to my advantage at my departure location when nobody came to pick up the truck on the day I had scheduled it to be picked up. It gave me time to toss in those last-minute cleaning items I'd planned to just leave behind. But for anyone who wants their stuff delivered in a timely manner this could be a drag - I had scheduled the pick-up on a Friday, so when I called ABF to ask when they would arrive, they told me they couldn't pick it up until Monday. Three more days of staying in a motel for me, but fortunately my new employers picked up that tab anyway. 6. Now I'm at my new address and have unpacked all my stuff, and I suddenly have realize that - unlike when you hire actual movers - U-Pack doesn't say a word about disposal of packing material. When you hire a moving company, they come back in a few days and pick up boxes. Considering how useless they have been in every other way, I expect I'll be told "no" when I call and ask later (since they don't have 24/7 customer service). Nope. I'm reverting to U-Haul moves after this. Sure I have to worry about either towing my car or returning for it after my move, but it will be infinitely cheaper, I'll be in control of the schedule, and I know they have trucks and trailers that are designed for moving without risking life and limb. read more

ABF - UPACk great for my move from New Mexico to Minnesota worked great. In both states all staff were great with me. I will recommend them to friends & family that are moving. I like the relo cubes. My only complaint was abf/upacks referral to Moving Staffers who way overcharged me for unloading the cubes. Best to check around for local movers who charge less for loading or unloading the cubes. read more

We are satisfied with the price value. They are the cheapest thing going by far especially for long distances. I do have two words of advice. READ YOUR CONTRACT. Especially the paragraph concerning liability. The Standard Coverage only covers .10 per pound for any damage due to negligence. This can be minimal especially with an item of any value. You can upgrade the coverage in case of damage or use outside coverage. Also if you plan to have them store your items, rap anything that is not water resistant in plastic bags. The containers are stored outside and if you happen to get one that is not air tight and it rains the container could leak. read more

We had a great experience with U-Pack. We took advantage of loading our things at the service terminal into a trailer that we then were able to put a divider up to separate our things. They were very clear and concise about everything for the exception of one thing and this may have been because we changed our plan the day before loading. We changed from a cube to a trailer and the information (price) from our transport company (ABF) had not updated to the current price. We quickly figured it out though and all was well after that. Other than that the service was fantastic and U-Pack's customer service was always kind, courteous, and punctual with all the changes. I would recommend this service. read more

I love that the U-Pack containers are solid, sealed metal - nothing is getting in or out of them once you close and lock that door. My items were delivered on time and in good condition. Though much of the condition of your items depends on how well they are packed and how well the containers are loaded. I got loaders (guys to do the heavy lifting) through U-Pack a couple of times and they were very good, but expensive. The last two times I got guys from Yelp and they were just as good (a little better really) and less expensive. I would definitely use U-Pack again. Just be very clear about the cost and dates of your move, the container delivery and pick up time/date, and the delivery date at your new location. It was a little confusing at first - not a lot of information that I needed was volunteered up front; I had to ask a lot of questions. Very easy move though, all in all. read more

Had previous good experience with this company but this move not only didn't go well but after 5 days we learned our container had not left the dock in N Little Rock. Surprising since the local U pack people called us on a friday and told us our container would be here monday. I changed my arrangements with the storage people and on monday I caled U Pack. Albuquerquq UPack staff told me our container was still in N Little Rock. Glad I didn't go wait at the storage place, freezing here. Probably a good company, but they dropped the ball on this one. Today is day 6 and our container has yet to be delivered. As of this morning no update from UPack. read more

The cubes were delivered early in the day. Made the destination hub with no problem and were delivered 2 at a time due to the local area capacity. Pick up was slow on the last 2 due an equipment failure. We were kept in the loop and picked up as soon as possible. All in all a great deal for the price. Note when packing take all tables and anything with legs apart. not too much floor room so you have to stack. Keep boxes light if possible, Heavy boxes are very tough to pack up high.
