This is a hardworking crew with a great manager. I have a storage unit here and have rented trucks on multiple occasions.

He made sure my car was safe and that I was good to go when I went to pick it up. For how affordable it was per month, I really wasnt expecting any frills or extra services. Richard went above and beyond.

In November I called this place about storing my travel trailer (6' x 8'), I was told they had a…read moreindoor place for me; cool, so I paid $91 over the phone, and the next day I drove my trailer there. The unit they had assigned me had a walk-in, Not a drive in door, ergo there was no way I could get my trailer in the unit. Called them, explained they misunderstood what I needed, the unit would not work for me, they said my $91 would be returned in 7-10 business days. It is now January, I've been dealing with 3 different people, the first of whom I've spoken with 3 or 4 times, trying to get my money back, each time I'm told "We're sending a request for a return of your money, we'll call you back within an hour..." and then of course that doesn't happen. Today, a new person answered, and He want's to argue with me! I ask for the owner to speak with, "I'll send a request... yada yada yada". Nope, I'd like their number please. "We don't have a number for the owner." ?! How do you "contact" them then?! Sounds like all they have in the office is an email address (hard to tell, this person is not a native English speaker), in any case, I'm still getting a run around to get my original money back two months after they were unable to accommodate me and my trailer. I don't know who these other people have spoken to ("Mike"?), but My experience with these people has not been as fruitful or pleasant. Something is not right with this place, the other reviews were written in 2023, so maybe this place has sold to a new owner? Anyway, I would stay clear of this place, they're not honest, their customer service sucks hardcore.

Main issues: 1. pricing lies (a bait&switch style of pricing). 2. Automatic "insurance" that covers…read morevery little. 3. Their online account access. 1. Ignore promotional pricing - once it's over they happily increase monthly rent by 70% of the normal rate. READ: PRICE WILL INCREASE ON THE 4th MONTH. This is consistent and likely an established business practice. Case 1: promo pricing was 50% off first two months. Large (intentionally nonspecific) unit- $136 "normally" with $68 as rate for promo pricing. Rented in June. Then, rate jumped by $88 to $224/month. Given notice in last week of September (25th) for November new rate start. After raising a stink they dropped it by $22. That's still $66 over what I budgeted. Case 2: Had to get a 2nd unit last day of move and didn't have time to go to a different place (believe me, I would have). A smaller unit at $42/months as "standard rate" (October '25). Promo discount of 50% for first 2 months. Notice received in December (26th) that rate will increase to $75 starting February. Again, over 70% increase in cost. And $33 above budgeted. Like clockwork. They claim: [*Warning - eye roll following reading their statement may cause pain*] "We understand that any change in pricing is significant, and we want to assure you that this decision was made after careful consideration. Our team is dedicated to providing you with the best possible storage experience, including ongoing maintenance and upgrades to our facilities." I watched this building get built. It's new. Upgrades..? No. Maintenance, okay but what kind of incompetence didn't plan for that in initial pricing? It's not incompetence. It's shady and unethical. Cowards. What does $100 get you every month? 2. They make you pay upfront for insurance at $12/mo that covers up to $2k. I suggest not storing items at $200 a month if it's all worth less than that. I gave my documents quickly. I was still charged (for first unit) and had to ask them to refund me since I was charged again. I got a second unit as noted - under the same account, passcode, email etc. They still preemptively charged that insurance despite my private policy being on file already. Needs more refunds again. Very dumb. 3. They have an online account (kinda) but it's limited in function to strictly facilitating them getting your money. You cannot see itemized statements. You cannot submit or view documents. You can update your basic info and payment info and see payment history (only total they took from your account so nothing useful). You must request actual itemized statements EVERY MONTH if you want to see what that extra fee is for. Only positives are the doors work and it's relatively clean. But it's new...we'll see how far their maintenance goes. Go elsewhere.

We both live in Portland but were wanting to find someplace outside of the city where we could pay decent rates and still have peace of mind that things were safe. Found Shield Storage Vancouver through a little online search and reserved a 10x10 climate-controlled unit through their online reservation system a month ago. Move-in date was just yesterday, so not much time to review on, but so far, at least, we could not be happier. The units and property are clean and in what seems to be a relatively safe and quiet part of town. Tammy was friendly, professional, helpful and knew her stuff. She took the time to show us around to make sure the unit we were reserving would fit our needs, talked us through the details of the contract to make sure we understood what the agreement was, and was very competent and enjoyable to work with throughout the process. While I don't ever anticipate needing to go there early morning or late night, I appreciate that the access hours give us that option, and it's helpful to know that the office is open on Saturdays as well. 24 hours in, I have zero complaints. Optimistic that this will turn out to be a good solution to our storage needs. A couple of (very minor) things that I'd mention that came up prior to our move-in: Gmail flagged my confirmation email from Shield Storage as possible spam/junk (it wasn't), and the introductory email indicated someone would be calling me to introduce themselves prior to move-in day, which didn't happen. I only mention it for reference because some folks might like to have that call happen; I am not one of those people, and I most likely would've just let a call go to voice mail anyway :) Regardless, when we showed up on the move-in date, everything went super smoothly, so it was not a big deal...but just wanted to mention it. Many thanks to Tammy and the crew there, we appreciate all your help!
