I had the most horrific experience in the 46 years period during which I have rented cars/truck/trailer. FYI, I am a senior citizen and here are the reasons:
1. I rented a cargo van on a location near my home, but after one hour I received an email stating that the van would be available at a location 12 km away from my home. Note that I had to pay 59 cents +HST (therefore, nearly 69 cents per km) for those extra km (twice, back and forth!)
2. I used the express-check-in through U-Haul website, so that I would not have to waste any time when picking up the van. When I got to the location, after waiting for 8 minutes in the lineup, I had to provide all the information that I provided online (when express-checking in) to the attendant.
3. I returned the van in exactly 1.5 hr back to the location. Again, after waiting in the lineup, this time for 5 minutes, while the attendant was bringing my information on her screen, she received a message that there is an issue with the rental!!! She went outside and after 5 minutes she came back, and stated that if I had actually kept the van for 2 weeks! I stated that I had borrowed the van 1.5 hrs before. She went to discuss it with her supervisor. After waiting for 5 minutes, I saw the attendant who had checked me in. I asked her if should resolve the issue, since she would remember that I was there 1.5 before that time. She brought the information up on her screen and at that point, a rude lady (seemingly, a supervisor) appeared and asked for me name. I told her all my information was on the screen (of course with a totally frustrated voice and somewhat laud!). I asked that rude attendant why she asked the same information that was on the screen, and why they were wasting my time. She responded that there was a glitch with their computer system, which had to be resolved. She told me that I could leave, as the receipt would be sent to me by email. I insisted that given the facts, their incompetent system, etc, I wanted to know the exact cost of my rental. I had to wait for her for another 5 minutes for that simple info.
As you could appreciate, the whole event was nothing but a frustrating and unnecessary waste of time - NEVER AGAIN U-HAUL!
THE MORAL OF THE STORY: If you have a choice (a) do not use U-Haul, whatsoever; I had rented trucks from Budget and Avis several times in past and never had any issues. This time, because there is a U-Haul rental location 2 km from my home, I made the MISTAKE! Moreover, this is not the first time I have had issues with U-Haul; (b) never use the Dartmouth location - again; NEVER EVER USE THE DARMOUTH U-HAUL location. read more
