U-Chun is one of a few food stalls located within the H-mart Korean supermarket in the Little Ferry plaza. This is my husband's go-to spot, and it's easy to see why. Each of the stalls kind of have their own niche, and U-Chun firmly occupies the soup and stew sector of Asian/Korean food. Most of their menu options are served on a hot plate or stone bowl, which is meant to keep your food hot and bubbly as you feverishly blow on and consume your meal. Placing an order is a cinch, even for non-Koreans who can ask for menu items by number. Hang onto your receipt afterwards because it'll have your order number. An automated voice will helpfully announce ready orders (by restaurant name and order number) over the loudspeaker so you don't have to hover in the immediate vicinity. Given the number of items on their menu and how limited their space is, it's impressive they can turn out items as well and as quickly as they do. So far, we've tried the bulgogi bibimbap, with is topped with a sweet soy marinated meat and meant to be mixed with veggies and an optional gochujang sauce serving. It's decent, though I have a pet peeve about hot stone bibimbaps that don't achieve the crunchy burnt rice bottom. I liked far better the spicy chicken stew, which is chock full of tender braised chicken and tender potatoes in a fiery stew. It's intensely flavorful and sure to clear up any sinus issues in a few bites.

Its in the hmart little ferry. Chicken dolsotbap and the kimchi dolsotbap are super tasty

Got the jjeuk udon stir fried. Pretty underwhelming experience. The food was decent but paying $15 for food court food where the portion sizes are a bit light was disappointing. The food itself comes with sides which were okay as well but the portion and price was a big no for me. Normally would expect food court food to be the opposite of that.

U Chun is located in the HMart food court and we were looking for a quick lunch one Saturday afternoon at around 2. After a few loops around the food court, I picked U Chun because I was in the mood for some soup, and I saw they had seolleongtang, which is a beef bone broth. I've been meaning to try it so this was the perfect opportunity. I ordered the one with sliced beef and noodles. This came with a cup of rice and some banchan. The banchan was kimchi, cucumbers, and some peppery daikon one (which I did not care for). The broth itself was very good. It's soothing and seems like something that would be good to drink if you were sick or hungover. There were very little noodles in it, which I didn't mind because I actually liked eating the soup with the rice. The beef had no more beef flavor, I assume because they use it to make the broth. I don't know if I would order seolleongtang again here, but I wouldn't mind trying some of their other menu items.

Every time I come to hmart in little ferry I have to get the ojingeo dolsotbap from here! It's my favorite item that I've tried in this food court and consistently good! It's not too salty, and not too oily. It always comes with different side dishes too. The service is friendly and quick, no complaints about anything here really. It's a convenient place for a very good meal.

    벌집 삼겹살 Grilled Pork Belly

Added Grilled Pork Belly to my favorites! As other dishes, its not-overly-seasoned porky was served perfectly cooked with minimal oil in the pork. Onions on the base on top of hot pan was a great touch to have them absorb the oil from above, at the same time lightly cooked from the pan below. The friendly owner provided me with home-grown Minari Muchim, whose spice was well paired with the pork bellies. Highly recommended 5+.

For those one who hasn't visited this place before, this is a restaurant located in the food court inside of H-mart, while it seems small, it has some really good dishes that I just keep coming back whenever I visit this H-mart. I've tried several dishes so far, my go to dish is yukgaejang, which is a spicy soup with shredded beef and scallion, but I also enjoy their other dishes such as cold noodles, seafood pancake and other dishes. I honestly haven't tried one dish that I don't enjoy. The order process is fairly straightforward- you order first and pay, then when they call the number on your receipt, you can go pick it up your food. When you finish your food, you will bring your tray back to the restaurant, don't leave the tray and dishes on the table. Since it's food court and you pretty much help yourself, you don't really have to tip the restaurant.

    La Galbi Combo (~$20)
    Aya E.

Ordered: La Galbi Combo (~$20): Galbi + Soft Tofu Soup (Seafood) with rice, egg, and banchan Aya's take: I was honestly debating between a 3/5 and 4/5 but there were just one too many things that made this meal less enjoyable. I'm a big fan of Korean food and have had my fair share of it. The portion of Galbi here is unbelievably small and misleading compared to the photo on the menu; there was literally like 4 pieces of meat. The Soft Tofu Soup wasn't even the right red color, as you can tell. It also wasn't spicy. Unfortunately I have a feeling they assumed because I'm not Asian that I wouldn't like it spicy or "know" Korean food. All in all, the presentation was fine but every part of the meal was lackluster. I would try other options at this food hall before coming back here.

I was in the H Mart and found a lot of good-looking options in the food court area. This one caught my eye and saw a reasonably-priced bulbogi bibimbap which is stir-fried beef, marinated in Korean BBQ sauce. It also comes with an egg on top even though that was not pictured. I did like that it was It wasn't a long wait and the food was piping hot so I had to be patient. The dish had a ton of flavored meet, the egg, green onions, and a few other veggies with rice on the bottom. It was actually a LOT of food for a very reasonable price. It came with a sauce and a little tray of toppings (I think) but the dish was really super flavored on its own. Although if I returned to H Mart I'd try a different place in the food court, I definitely think this place is a winner.

HMart food court is so convenient. Food and service at Uchun is always good. I had the Squid Dolsotbap this time and it was delicious. Good amount of squid and pretty spicy! It comes with 3 simple banchan.

    Erin L.

It's still Mul Naengmyeon season... right? Right?? It's always so refreshing to have a decent bowl of Mul Naengmyeon in hot weather like this. Especially one that's $12 (give or take- fight me if I'm wrong about this being the cheapest, I had one in NYC for $18) and as delicious! I'll also write a review for this H Mart in general cause this food court/grocery set up is so great for them.

Finally got to try this place I heard so much about on a Christmas day with wife because it was…read morefrigid and we wanted a warm bowl of Korean "tang"(soup). Finding parking is quite challenging given the location on a busy commercial street, so make sure you can come earlier than meal time to have better luck. They have waiting seats OUTSIDE so yeah I suppose it's quite popular at times. 1. ATMOSPHERE (3/5) - This location is small and it's pretty straightforward place. But I still found it cozy, with decent amount of seating (I think it can handle 15-20 max) and little details like wall with wood ledges and coat hangers were a nice touch. Seating was comfortable, though we tied our down parkas around our waist as another party had hung theirs on our side of coat hangers. 2. FOOD (4/5) - We dove right in to try their famous gejang (~Korean raw crab "ceviche") and ordered two of their namesake gookbap (rice with soup) to see how they are. Here's how it went down. - Gejang (App, $20, 2/5) - I had a hunch that on a holiday perhaps I should not order this, but my craving for succulent crab flesh be damned, I went for it and unfortunately, the meat was not well-marinated as I had feared. Gejang is a dish that has to sit in the complex soy-based pickling liquid for some time... and if restaurant is too busy churning them out or if it's slow season they won't do this properly. It not only wasn't fully marinated, I think the marinade was off because the spiciness was way out of balance and was overpowering. Perhaps knowing that it didn't have enough time to marinade the kitchen put extra diced jalapenos to compensate? Because that's exactly what it tasted like - you can't fool me. I tried to salvage the dish by asking a confused-looking girl server for some sugar, but yeah, can't un-do the overpowered marinade with sprinkling of sugar. This was really unfortunate as I was looking forward to a good bite. - Ahjae Gookbap (Main, $18, 5/5) - Thankfully, their namesake gookbap was spot-on to salvage our dining. Generous slabs of succulent beef on the bone and off the bone was swimming in a hearty beef/bone broth that tasted clean and focused. Portion was good, and can I say their banchan of fish cake moochim & unfermented kimchi & ggakdugi(radish kimchi) simply ROCKS? That was some serious deliciousness and dare I say value at $18 at a day and age where hamburger costs over $10! You win at life by ordering this! 3. SERVICE (4/5) - Our server girl was attentive and food came out early on though later it was a bit hard to get her attention promptly. We found ourselves putting hands in the air, and wavin' like we don't care... for a little while. They provide gloves & metal bin for gejang which was a nice touch for people to keep their fingers clean. One thing I'd like to mention: Plastic cup they served water in was all chipped on the rim so we instead went and got water from their hot & cold water dispenser which had metal cups (as many korean restaurants do). I'd suggest them to replace all these old plastic cups with metal ones for health reasons. Overall, we were satisfied with our meal. I'd chock up the gejang mishap to it being a holiday. I hope chef was just off with the marinade that day because I am a certified gejang pro(I catch and make my own) and that balance ain't it. But I will give it another try during warmer month and we'll definitely be back to try sooyook moochim, oyster jeon & other great soup offerings.

Ordered three things: 1) marinated crabs, small size (5/5). Always a must-get here. 2) ddukbaegi bulgogi (4.5/5) - Thinly sliced prime marinated beef ribeye casserole with rice cake and glass noodle and mushroom served in a sizzling hot pot. Really flavorful and so good to have on a cold day. 3) ahjae ppyo jjim (4.5/5) - Braised prime beef meat bones in soy reduction with carrots, radish, dates, chestnut, rice cake and glass noodles. We got non-spicy. It came in a HUGE bowl. Definitely meant to be shared with a group. Took leftovers home and it was still yummy the next day mixed with knife-cut noodles I had at home.
