"The ones that work."…read more That pretty much sums up my experience at Midtown Appliance. I am new(ish) to the area and was in need of a washer and dryer set for my new home. Price inflation and chip shortages made me fear that I was in for yet another headache in shopping for major appliances. I didn't need a gleaming new appliance set, just something simple and reliable, ideally name brand, that wouldn't break the piggy bank. Well, that's what I got. Dad and I just hooked up both units and they work just fine (after swapping out a rubber washer on one of the hookup hoses). Consider this: All the chips, sensors and computerized stuff has made appliances both more expensive and more complicated to repair. Midtown Appliance seems to have more of the older, mechanical models and doesn't mess with the touchy, wonky technology. It makes sense.

Absolutely terrible business. They are friendly and professional only until they get your money. I…read morepurchased a washer and dryer from them, and the dryer has not worked properly since day one. I was told I had a 30-day warranty and that they would either repair or replace the dryer, yet they continuously failed to show up and kept giving excuse after excuse. I had to repeatedly call, stop by in person, and practically beg for assistance, only to be met with rude behavior and blame-shifting. Instead of taking responsibility for selling a faulty appliance, they tried claiming the issue was somehow my house, despite there being no clogs or problems with my setup at all. This business clearly does not stand behind the products they sell or the promises they make. Save yourself the stress, frustration, and wasted money. Take your hard-earned money somewhere else and deal with a company that actually values its customers.

Complaint Description: Jim McGill of A-1 Appliance…read moremisrepresented items and expense needed for repair and subsequently lied about parts and followup appointment. 7-29 Jim told me our Whirlpool built in oven needed a touch pad @ a cost of $483 plus 1 hour of labor. I asked about the thermal fuse since I had researched online and found it exhibited similar symptoms. Jim told me our oven did not have a thermal fuse and this part is what would fix it. 7-31 Jim installed touch pad. Oven still wouldn't heat. Jim told me at this point the part is non-refundable. He wanted to install a main power controller for $144 and guaranteed this would fix it. I again asked about thermal coupler and he told me it does not have one. He told me he would order part on his own w/no upfront $ from me. He would come Saturday around noon and get it. Jim did not call nor show up. 8-3 Jim called and wanted to see the schematic paperwork to see if there was a thermal coupler and he would now need upfront $ to order the part. Upon reading the schematic I found there is indeed a thermal coupler. I asked Jim why he was now wanting upfront $ to order the part and he said it was just bad business to do it any other way. Jim is a liar, an inept service tech, and I believe owes me $483 plus tax and labor and my original touch pad. He is confrontational when he makes a mistake and can't be trusted. Desired Resolution: Jim is a liar, an inept service tech, and I believe owes me $483 plus tax and labor and my original touch pad. He is confrontational when he makes a mistake and can't be trusted.

I had asked about a veteran discount to try and get the higher than expected price down a bit. He said he had already given me a discount, so he couldn't do that as well. Wasn't sure what the discount was, but if they do have a veterans discount it's probably better than the ~6% savings from the one he gave me. Work quality (as far as I can tell) was good, but price is extremely high considering the time and parts required. Won't be my first choice next time we have an issue.

After the sixth phone call , he called my husband. back. The ladies in the office were always polite, however. The installer Chris then quits with our $10,000 check in his truck.. No hot water all this time. Then, after a week of calling , the manager begrudgingly sends two apprentices? who install a very precarious Dr.Suess apparatus to route gas line away from vent ..The apprentices /young men installed while mostly on the phone with Dr. Suess?..Meanwhile, stating "We are not sure if we will have to charge you" After we moved the dryer vent (we paid our contractor because we no longer had faith that this company would do it properly)it was reinstalled in an acceptable manner. I waited to review because this company gave the vibes that they would retaliate by some bogus charges . C. Woods technician also set out water heater on continuous VS demand which continually heats the water instead of when on demand-which depletes your gas much faster. There was no conversation about this. I found this company reckless and indifferent to this project , probaly because we are not in an affluent neighborhood and I believe they have some corporate accounts. Luckily, I was able to find the names and emails of the general managers of this company in case they try to send a delayed bill. Just like many established companies, poor attitude/work ethic will eventually run this company into the ground. I will try to post a picture of the original job.
