I took guitar lessons from Mike Overly in the early/mid 1980s when he was in Kailua, Hawaii. Just…read morehappened to look to see how he was doing. Michael Overly is without a doubt one of the finest private music teachers in the country, particularly for guitar. I didn't realize it at the time (I was terrible about practicing what I was supposed to practice and Mike used to call me "Space Case!"), but his method and instruction gave me the theoretical and intellectual foundation to set me up as a pro player. He had an early handwritten version of his own method book at that time, and it was far superior to anything I have seen on the market since. I later used that book as a foundation for my own guitar teaching and when I lost the old book I did my best to recreate it. I can absolutely recommend him to any parent looking for a serious teacher for their own child. He also has the experience and theoretical knowledge to be a terrific resource for any adult player looking to expand his or her horizons to the pro level. Mike did a lot for me more than 30 years ago as a musician, and I'm very glad to have a chance to return the favor by writing this short review.

Mike is arguably the best guitar teacher in the world. Not content to use the stock "guitar method"…read more books abundant from Mel Bay & Hal Leonard, he instead has created the first music method for the guitar. I started playing and taking lessons as a 12 year old and now in my 60's I'm finally really learning how to play guitar. And I take lessons with my 7 year old Grandson, who is fortunate to begin lessons with a method that will allow him to advance so much further then I ever did as a kid. Anyone in the Dayton area who is serious about learning how to play guitar should immediately sign up for lessons with Mike. You won't believe how much you will learn about music and be able to apply it to playing the guitar.

I had no idea that this place was so close to my Father in law's home…read more The only reason I know about Bobby Mackey's is Ghost Adventure's, so yea, I'm part of THAT crowd. My original thought was just to stop and grab a few pictures of the outside. I didn't REALLY need to go inside. (YES, YES I DID). I got there about an hour before the first tour started, so the Husbeast and I enjoyed a little country Karaoke as I walked around and took photos. It's exactly what a Honky Tonk looks like (And smells like: Liquor, Beer, Sweat and Cigarette smoke). There were a couple of regulars playing pool and a few others singing, The guys and gals line dancing to 'Footloose' made me grin. Mark was our tour guide and he is a Gem. He has the history of the place down to a good patter. It's sad about the recent-ish mudslide on the other side of the hill. The basement is a "special" place. Even if you don't believe in ghosts or demonic things, please surround yourself with white light and protection. I'm not saying it's related but I did end up with a huge bruise on my stomach and 2 days after I got home to FLA I ended up in the ER with Blood pressure Issues. Just sayin. It's not a place to fool around with. There've been too many folks who have done TOO MANY stupid things there without knowing what they're engaging with. My own personal experiences were: I saw a female shape to the right, when you're facing looking into the well room, it had a very victorian style silouhette. I felt a cold spot as we entered into the room of faces. There was something touching me in the jail cell, I felt, rather than heard voices in there. In the spot between the stairway to heaven, and the pit to hell, I felt a pain in my stomach. I ended up with a large bruise on my belly. May not be connected, but who knows. The husbeast, who's an absolute null, and skeptic, felt slightly dizzy in the jail cell, and saw "something" off the the left, near the mechanical bull in the basement. Would I come back? Yes. Probably even to drink and dance. It was a cool place.

So, this place is exactly as you'd expect it - so just know what you're heading into. It has…read morecountry line dancing, pool tables, a mechanical bull and a variety of other games and attractions to keep you occupied. The staff was pretty friendly, and the drinks are cheap. And for anyone that's been living under a rock, it's all supposed to house an actually portal to Hell. Apparently this is located in the basement, off limits to customers. There are supposed to be other hot spots throughout the building for paranormal activity, including the men's bathroom, but I didn't experience anything out of the ordinary.
