This was one of those beach days that just checks every box. The sand is soft and easy to walk on, and the views of the ocean seem to go on forever. As soon as you step out there you get that relaxing coastal feeling and it is hard not to slow down and enjoy it. My kids and I had fun ankle deep in the cool April water. We spent time walking up and down the shoreline, listening to the waves roll in, and just taking it all in. The beach felt clean and well kept, and there was plenty of space to spread out without feeling packed in. It made it easy to relax whether you wanted to sit back in a chair, play with the kids, or just wander along the water. The atmosphere really stands out here. It has that perfect mix of family friendly and laid back beach town energy. You see people fishing, kids playing, and others just soaking up the sun. It never felt overwhelming, just a great steady vibe all around. It is also a great spot if you like simple beach activities. Whether it is swimming, shell hunting, or just dipping your feet in the water, everything feels easy and enjoyable. Watching the waves and the open water was easily one of the highlights of the day. Overall this is the kind of place you can spend hours at without even realizing it. Beautiful scenery, relaxing atmosphere, and just an all around great experience. This beach was super relaxing and very different from the ones I'm used to go to. During the day I honestly didn't like it as much as it was quite crowded and there were bugs that would bite you so we left after being there for maybe 30 minutes. Sunset was definitely the time to visit this gorgeous beach. We got plenty of great photos and got to watch a guy kite surf too. A lot less people were out which was nice and the sunset was one of a kind. read more

It is beautiful and beach was clean. There are beach restaurants. Going to the top of the lighthouse was fun as well as the history.

The more southern area of this island looks out towards some of the wild and unsettled islands. Unlike the north side, I did not find much in the way of facilities, but there was a nice quiet beach to walk on. As with the rest of the island, parking is paid and I suspect that enforcement is vigorous during most of the year. Many signs were in place cautioning visitors to avoid dangerous currents. read more

The beach and pier are nice. The pier sells drinks and a bit of food. Your walk from the car to the beach is short. My family and I had a blast. However. The bathrooms smell of old fish and hot piss. They are completely full of trash and are just plain nasty. That's the big and only issue I have with this place. Now. Like I said. The beach was nice. I think Tybee Island Beach is one of those places that you either love or hate. I happen to love it. I love that it's small with no high rises and packed full of mom and pops that are unique to Tybee. The pier is a nice area with plenty of food near by and restrooms. But I also love North Beach and Tybee Creek. It's slow paced and laid back. If you want lots of glitz and swank, this probably isn't the beach for you. But if you like a slower approach to the beach and don't mind dark sand then try Tybee. read more

Not the prettiest of beaches but it is a great asset for Savannah. A fifteen minute drive from Downtown and accessible by public transport. Imagine a bygone hippy vibe. Don't be fooled, it is prime real estate. The water like most of the Atlantic is low visibility. Depending on the season, watch out for jellyfish. The Northside, pass the lighthouse is more remote but not good for swimming. Multiple restaurants in the area with a few by the shore. read more

We came here on a Sunday around 3pm. Traffic heading out from Savannah was not too bad and we targeted the North Beach because it has the smallest waves for our kids. Parking was pretty tough. We circled the area and every spot, even the illegal ones, was taken up. After about 10 minutes, we entered the main parking lot and waited. It only took another 5 minutes before someone left and we took their spot. We paid for parking and were on our way. From there, it was a short walk to the beach, with the long boardwalk leading up to it. We found a great spot and out kids immediately began playing in the soft sand and gentle waves. It was quite windy and it took some time to get our setup established, but there were friendly people who were helping us along the way. We were there for about 4 hours and I did not feel like it was ever too crowded. The bathrooms were a short distance away as were the showers. read more

This beach and town was disgusting. We went in with an open mind and planned to stay a couple days. We left within an hour. Beach was strewn with garbage. Cans were overflowing. We are staying in Savannah so decided to visit Tybee Island and sit on the beach for a few hours. It was windy and in the low 60's but pleasant for these two Wisconsinites as we were the only ones on the beach in shorts and t-shirts. We drove the length of the island to Try to get a bearing and then decided to enter the beach just past the Breakfast Club Restaurant that we just ate at. Not being familiar with the different beach entry points we were happy that this one had restrooms. We didn't explore the island much but the particular beach area we were in had plenty of shells washed up for Those who who are interested in picking. It is a pretty touristy area with ample hotels. I can't imagine how busy it is in prime time as were were here in January. read more

Tybee Island Beach is our family's happy place! We love that this low key beach is so relaxing! It is not over crowded and there are plenty of great things to do around the beach. Taking in the natural sites is a big part of this beautiful beach. You never know when a pod of dolphins will pop up in the water. There are sea turtles and nests, crabs popping out of their holes, and sea shells scattered about. Tybee Island offers some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets ! So pretty! Heading to Whitemarsh Island for the weekend and upon scoping out the nearby beach I was surprised to see the mixed reviews for Tybee. I mean... IT'S A BEACH! I decided to disregard the negative Nancys and go anyway. It was one of the hottest days of the year so saying it was crowded was an understatement. I did a loop around to get the lay of the land when it comes to parking. The second time around I was planning on dropping my friend at the access because she has a bum knee and didn't want to walk half a mile to get there. Luckily, we pulled into the metered area and a spot opened up two spots away from the main access... score. We grab our stuff and hit the sand. As we set up our chairs, a nice woman offered up her chairs and umbrella because they had paid for the day and were leaving early... double score. She even gave us her name in case the chair nazis tried to say we were not with them and needed to pay again. After a few hours of lounging and swimming, we headed over to the shops and scouted out some ice cream. I wish there was a bathouse or something (maybe I missed it if there was) nearby to change. I can't stand walking around in we trunks so we both pulled one of those awkward maneuvers where you change underneath a towel hiding behind the car door. It's super fun! We skipped the touristy beach bars in favor of food on the way back, but we did find delicious gelato just two blocks away and even stopped into the beach store for a little souvenir. Yes, we lucked out on parking and our new friend with the win on the chairs/umbrella, which both could have managed to be difficult otherwise. Even so, what beach doesn't have those issues? Like I said... IT'S A BEACH! I enjoyed my trip one hundred percent and would gladly go back when in the SAV area. read more

While we were in Savannah, we decided to take a drive to the beach. There is nothing fancy about Tybee which may be its biggest attraction. Not commercialized at all. I loved the sign on the highway coming in that says "Drive Carefully-Watch for Turtles"! I love these Georgia beaches. Tybee is the closest to where we live and we wanted to check it out. Parking was fairly easy, lots of street parking and the meters can be paid for with a phone app. I love that I don't have to go back and add more time. I can just do it on my phone. The water is very dark and cloudy, but the beach is great to find shark teeth, which has become my favorite. Make sure you stop at The the Tybee lighthouse. You can climb 138 stairs to the top for a killer view. It's a little nerve racking, but really neat! You get free museum admission with your ticket. read more

1st time visit. Nice beach, easy to figure out parking. Lots of meh food and beverage options nearby. When you enter the beach, if you get there early enough in the AM, go all the way down to the right and there is an inlet that is low tide in the AM. A lot of folks like to walk out while the tide is low. Don't linger too long, cause when the tide starts to come back in, which I understand can fluctuate, the life guards are very adamant about you getting your butt back to the shore. I saw some kayaking going on, both inlet and sea, which was cool. There is also fishing available on the pier. The young crowd like this place too, so expect a mix of folks. Wet Willies has a place within walking distance of the beach so that tends to be a popular move. We only hit the beach for several hours this trip but would like to come back and linger longer next time. read more

It was a great day for a beach visit. 89 degrees with a nice breeze. Parking is $20 just outside the beach or street parking via a meter. The sand was very hot so shoes or flip flops are needed until you are closer to the water. Nice waves walking along the beach and watch out for the sea shells which can be prickly. Seats with umbrellas are available for rent but its best to have your own gear. Ideally a cabana blanket, chairs and a cooler full of drinks and snacks should have you set for the day or a few hours. Savannah is pretty hot and muggy March through October...if you need a break from walking around the historic sites and parks, Tybee Island's beaches make for a tempting vacation from your vacation.​ Nothing really sticks out at this beach...lots and lots of beach space, a pier, some touristy places to eat at, and some nice cool refreshing ocean water to cool you off! Its about a 30-40 minute drive from Savannah, but its easy to work in your trip if you're visiting Fort Pulanski which is right in betwen. read more

We left our hotel close to downtown Savannah at 8:30 a.m. and were at this beach just before 9 a.m. The signage isn't that good, but if you enter around 14th Street (turning left toward the ocean) there is a large pay-lot behind the hotel there. They have set up plastic barriers to make it a one-way entrance. The fee to park here is $3.50 per hour with a 2-hour minimum. There is a short boardwalk from the parking lot over some dunes and out to the beach. Arriving early, we had our choice of spots at which to plant our umbrella. The beach filled up noticeably over the next couple of hours, though and is likely crowded after lunch. At this spot, you are about a quarter mile north of a large pier. It didn't seem to have much going on that day (a Friday) and maybe not at all during Covid, but it looked like there may have been some food vendors, etc. there at one time (and possibly small concerts as well?). This is a nice spot to pass a relaxing morning. It was hot and humid, but that was expected here in August. We saw several dolphins just offshore. When we left, we took advantage of a set of shower heads on a post to rinse off some sand. They also have a row of trailer-based restrooms that are convenient for changing clothes before you leave. For this area, this is a great beach. read more

The beaches on Tybee Island all offer an abundance of fun in the sun, they also are known for their strong currents and a lack of free parking, the currents and rapid tide changes are manageable but be advice to also manage your parking space the authorities here monitor the meters and will write a ticket for a minute or two over I guess no tolerance means exactly that, but you can drink in non-breakable containers so that's a bonus. Shelling is always a popular pastime here on Tybee but if you're really into finding some hidden treasure on February 5, 1958, during a training mission flown by a B-47, a Mark 15 nuclear bomb was lost off the coast of Tybee Island after colliding with a F-86 Sabrejet and was never found they say the bomb never had a fuse installed so it's not a threat - that's exactly what I'd say if I lost a nuclear bomb. Beside those simply matters and the threat of sharks everything is pretty low key here on the island I know I'll continue to visit here every chance I get... read more

The beach was open in spite of the virus. No trash, however; a lot of shells in the sand. The closer to the water the smoother the sand. I felt safe due to the police on 4wheelers patrolling. Everyone was nice and good about spreading out. The water is brown and green. There are plenty of restaurants and stores near by if needed. I would recommend bringing a cooler. Nice beach. Was here about 2 weeks ago and wasn't that crowded. Waves were pretty small so good for kids but we did see a small shark. We were kind of near the pier so all the fishing going on definitely attracts sharks. There's a small boardwalk with a few souvenir shops and a couple of restaurants. The beach was in walking distance from Sandcastle and did not disappoint. The weather was windy and cold at night. The following morning I beach combed for seashells.
