Montparnasse area is known for quality Breton-style galettes/crêpes , however the places near the tower tend to be a bit more pricy. Ty Galettes provides a good balance between quality and price and it is only a 20 minute-walk from the tower. The people working at this place are friendly and welcoming , qualities that are not easily found in a busy city like this.
For those who have never tried a galette before, it is a must-have in France. Ignore the savory "crêpes" you see at the touristic parts of town, made with white flour and stuffed with lots of ingredients. Galettes are THE original savory "crêpes" but they are made from buckwheat flour, which is naturally gluten-free. If made properly, they are super thin with a bit of crispiness outside.
Ty Galettes provide a large selection of options, which would make it easy to please even picky eaters. You can try some with the basic cheese/bacon/egg or you can be a bid more adventurous and get something like goat cheese, bacon, and honey. Make sure to wash it down with a cup of cider (preferably dry) if you are ok with alcohol and finish it off with the traditional sweet crêpes (contain gluten)- my favorite with salted caramel. So if you are in the neighborhood, make sure to give them a try for a traditional feast. read more
