Lo, we have discovered the holy grail of paella in Spain!!! Txoko (pronounced "cho-ko") is near the port with seating upstairs. After trying numerous paellas in Barcelona and being very under-impressed, we were absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the quality of this dish! The flavor was amazing, the rice was imbued with just the perfect amount of flavor and sweetness.
Then, we made the smart move of ordering Sangria and O-M-Geeeeeez!!!!! It was packed with a fruity aroma and just the right amount of secret sauce!! We ended up sharing a second pitcher with an Australian couple!!
The ambiance is low key, you may have to share a big table with someone.
Service was good. We didn't get bread and had to ask. The waiter then told us they ran out of butter and only brought us one roll because they ran out of bread. This is not France -- skip the bread, trust me! Since they charge for it, remember to say "no pan, grathiath!"
We also ordered some type of shrimp mushrooms that turned out to be an omelette . It was an omelette. Pass!! Just say no!
We ordered some chocolate hazelnut dessert and i still haven't found out why it's called chocolate anything! It tasted like meh with cinnamon on top. If you're into cinnamon covered meh, get it, if not, pass!!
I give these guys 5 stars because of what matters, the sacred, almighty, sexy and copious paella!! Oh, and the sangria!!!
Pass on the other stuff and roll up your sleeves!! read more
