    Grilled filet mignon with French fries and green peppers
    Rpisces G.

    Great service, relaxed quiet ambiance and delicious food. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is because I ordered my filet mignon well done and got it medium at best, second time round they got it right.

    We chose this restaurant because we wanted our first melons has a passion to be great. This was the perfect start. It was beautiful inside and outside, with a great deal of San Sebastian. Even though we had two small kids, the service was fantastic. The apple tart was the best I have ever had in my life, and the rice and clams dish was great.

    Beautiful restaurant located on a top hill overlooking La Concha beach and town of San Sebastian. Staff is extremely friendly and willing to accommodate everyone's requests. We had several plates all to share, local wine, champagne and red wine with our meals. Strongly recommend the Chuleton and cod fish. Chipirones en su tinta is another must. We were invited to see the winery which has been described as one of the best wineries in the world, which based on the quality, one should agree. You'd be pleased to find anything you might dream of as a wine lover. How to get there: a taxi ride would be short from any point in town, or call the restaurant for pick up;

    One of my best meals ever on the planet. The jamon is incredible. The 1970 wine was over the top for almost nothing and the stuffed crab was sinful. Don't miss it. It's a real treat and an experience to have some top notch basque cuisine.

    Good traditional Basque restaurant a bit off the beaten path in San Sebastián. Most of the high rating is due to the great service they provided. I was dining alone and they created a nice tasting menu for me to try of smaller portions of their more popular dishes including rice with clams, shrimp carpaccio, stuffed crab, and suckling pig. The shrimp and the crab were the highlights, but I must admit that I was a bit too stuffed by the time the suckling pig came around to fully enjoy the beautiful dish. Good place to bring others to enjoy many dishes over a slow meal.

    Spectacular service, gorgeous preparation and presentation. A classic. Oh yeah: and the wine list...epic.

    1970 Rioja

    We visited Rekondo in October of 2013 and had a great experience. We took a cab from downtown San Sebastian and arrived on a dark evening. While I knew the wine list would be spectacular, I was a bit concerned about how the food would be. I was surprised at how great the food was. We had an amazing seafood salad and roasted vegetable for two with fresh farm egg to start and this was one of the only restaurants in Spain that served fresh asparagus. Both dishes were outstanding. Our entree was a Chuleta de Buey ( grilled ribsteak for two). The steak was really flavorful and rich in flavor (as good as the famous steak at Extebarri) and was very reasonably priced. It was cooked perfectly medium rare. Finished with a pretty amazing cheese course. The wine list of course was incredible. We had a 1970 Rioja for around $40 US that was drinking very well. I had gone in with a list of wines I was interested in and planned on the 1975 but the sommelier suggested the 1970. Service was a little odd at first and the lights were too bright. We actually had them turn the lights down which helped quite a bit, which they happily obliged. Service warmed up considerably as the night wore on. We walked back from the restaurant to the Westin in San Sebastian which was quite a haul but it was a beautiful walk along Playa de la Concha. The restaurant offered to call us a cab but we preferred to walk off the meal. Highly recommended.

    Review Highlights - Rekondo

    Highlights of our meals included the Gambas from Huelva, Prawn Carpaccio, an off menu half portion of fried squid and a fantastic Txuleton or Txuleta as the Basque would say.

    Txakoli Basa-Lore - Jon Oliden explains the process.

    "What is Txakoli" you ask?…read more Well the easy solution is to contact Jon Oliden, Basa-Lore's Marketing Manager, next time you are in the Basque Country and have him give you a tour of this wonderful family owned winery so you can both taste their delicious products and learn about the history of this wonderful and different wine. Txakoli is a dry and slightly sparkling Basque wine. It has somewhat of a high acidity and is low in alcohol content. Basa Lore has been producing Txakoli since 1930s mostly for local consumption, but more recently they have expanded and not produce it at a higher capacity. The winery is located in the beautiful hills near the town of Zarautz and is a through back to what is quickly becoming a more commercial industry.

It has its own vineyards and since 1989 it has been incorporating equipment and modern machinery to produce a txakoli of excellent quality. Its txakoli has a delicate white fruit perfume, is balanced and offers a pleasant fresh finish. Because it is from the Getaria DO, it has a fizz to it when poured a foot above the glass and a pleasant saltiness which goes great with Spanish cuisine. The salt is actually incorporated into the skin of the grape as the daily fog drifts over the vineyard with the Atlantic Ocean only a mile away. Basa-Lore is Basque for "Forest Flower". The wine has fresh green tones, the fine bubbling that it gives off when it falls in the glass reminded us of the sound of the wind when it hits the leaves of the trees. Refreshing in the front palate, it explodes in the mid-palate and supports a long finish owing to the hint of salt. Marketing Manager, Jon Oliden, provided an extensive tour of the vineyard, the village and ocean views from the hillsides and a wonderful discussion about the novelty of the grape varietal and the method of growing/harvesting. Inside the production facility we sampled from the barrels and bottle. We tasted two white Txakoli and a red (blush) one. All were very pleasing. Jon, himself, prepared local products of sardines, fresh caught tuna and a tiramisu for taste pairings with the wines. The wines are available in the USA through Travis Vernon at Well Crafted Wine & Beverage Company +1 571-359-6227. Do yourself a huge favor and contact Jon Oliden for a visit through their website. Highly Recommended.

They were not shy with the portions. The tasting also includes some snacks, they do not serve food so make sure you are not expecting to eat there. The views were phenomenal. We didn't get to do a walk of the vines because of the heat. Would have been added bonus to so that, nonetheless they allowed us to get near and see them and take photos which was perfect for us. Overall a great experience!!! Would go back when visiting that area or Spain. Will be buying the one state side as well!!!

We opted for a few pintxos for lunch while we were visiting town. We also had a couple of drinks my husband got whiskey with coke and I asked for a local cocktail since I'm not much of a wine drinker. I was handed a cup of pacharán which was a bit strong but was nice to try something different. The pintxos came out one at a time which was nice we were able to fully enjoy each on their own. The bao was the only one I didn't really like mostly the bun part. It didn't taste like it was cooked all the way and was a bit gummy and there was not a lot of meat filling. Next was the lamb which was really tender and flavorful. The couscous was ok nothing special and not much seasoning to it. Then the beef cheek and mashed potatoes came out which was the star of the pintxos that we had. It was also very tender and the mash was also cooked perfectly. All of this was shared between the two of us and was very filling. The waiter let us know that some of the pinxtos could also be ordered in a full size if we wanted. We enjoyed sampling the pinxtos and would definitely recommend coming here to get a taste of local cuisine.
