Absolutely extraordinary. This place knocked my socks off, and I had the tasting menu at Arzak the day before... Only had 2 pintxos (tapas) and a beer here as I wanted to sample several places, but in the end I wished I had stayed... Started off with a beer and a serrano ham, cheese, and fried eggplant concoction that was excellent, and quite large (six big bites): well balanced, with the flavor of the cheese (a slight piquancy present, I'm not well versed enough in Spanish cheeses to identify, but reminiscent of a creamier 24 month Auricchio provolone) coming through the strongest. I was impressed enough that I stayed for a second (plus the beer was generous enough to last through two of their very large "small" plates: I've seen apps in the States smaller...). This had an excellent, very savory proper crust, the foie was creamy but not over cooked (just slightly pink), properly cleaned, and was dressed with several sauces plus applesauce. For the equivalent of $4!!!! See my Arzak review for the story on that visit, but if you are in San Sebastian this is a must visit. And the kicker: they do have pintxos set out on the bar (makes ordering much easier) that they will warm up when ordered, but unlike many of the equivalent bars in the area, they are constantly putting out new ones (most prepare food once, and then it sits for the entire night), and if you order something not out (say, the foie), it is prepared on request. All that for 7 E... read more
